Sherlock Holmes and the Glamorous Ghost Volume 2 by Harry DeMaio

Sherlock Holmes and the Glamorous Ghost Volume 2 by Harry DeMaio on November 8th, 2022 Genres: Mystery, Paranormal Format: ARC Source: Reedsy Discovery Buy on Amazon Goodreads “Mr. Sherlock Holmes? I am or was, Lady Juliet Armstrong, Baroness Crestwell. Having been murdered, I am deceased and require your assistance.” Thus began the strangest partnership in the long career of Sherlock Holmes. In Book One of this series we met the brash and bold, silly and sassy Lady Armstrong who wouldn’t let a simple thing like death stop her from seeking the help of the great Detective in solving the mystery of her violent and untimely demise. Further adventures followed and now in Book Two, she and her dog Pookie have become frequent companions to Holmes, Watson and yes, Mrs. Hudson. Sherlock Holmes and the Glamorous Ghost is the brainchild of author Harry DeMaio, creator of the of the famous Octavius Bear adventure series. Once again, join us for more comic and lighthearted mysteries of madcap mystical mischief and mayhem! Wondrous Words Wednesday – Load-Shedding

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Load-Shedding

Greetings you guys! Welcome to another edition of Wondrous Words Wednesday. The fun monthly meme where you get the change to share any new (or new to you) words you came across over the passed month. Wondrous Words are proudly hosted by yours truly and if you want to know more about how to take part, you can click here. A couple of WWW’s back, I’ve shared a typical South African and Afrikaans word with you – koeksister. Today, I will share yet another South African word with you: As we are typing this to you, we have actually just finished with our second set of two hours without any electricity for the day. And the next set will hit us at 21:00. Yes, that is correct, 6 hours without electricity. Per day. For the passed 2 weeks. No end in sight. Yes, I do know that we live in Darkest Africa, so load-shedding shouldn’t come as any surprise. And no, this post is not going to be a ranting and raving about the inconvenience thereof. If I want to start with that, I will type here until the power goes off once again. As always, my aim is just […]

Top Ten Tuesday – It’s only Words

Top Ten Tuesday – It’s only Words

Greetings you guys! It’s Tuesday and time for this week’s Top Ten Tuesday. Today’s  topic comes from yours truly – Typographical Book Covers. In laymen’s terms – books with only words on the cover. Thank you Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl for choosing our prompt! We feel very chuffed today. So what inspired this prompt? While sorting out our Book Shelfs a couple of months ago, my Mommy realized how many books we have that don’t have pictures on the cover, but only words. Look, we love a pretty cover as much as the next person and like an ostrich, if it’s got a shiny cover – we’ll go for it. But at the end of the day, it’s all about the words and if Words can be enough for a cover, imagine what lies between those covers. Here’s our Top Ten Favorite 5 Star Books with only words on the cover: Ha, this was an interesting exercise! My Mommy don’t have time to make a pretty CANVA graphic now, so she just gave WordPress free reign to do with the covers what they want. Not as nice as CANVA, but not all bad either. Let’s leave it like this. […]

The Sunday Post #83

The Sunday Post #83

Greetings you guys! It’s finally holidays for my Mommy. Just a short break, but it’s still ever so welcome. I do hope that we can spend a huge chunk of the following two weeks reading and spending some time on the blog. How have you all been doing? The past two weeks was a bit of crazy and surreal time, don’t you think? Who else were glued to their TV screens on Monday watching the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral? Even the little mutt was watching with us and she was quite good, except when the trumpets blew. Genetic memory or what? We’ve been experiencing stage 5 and 6 load shedding here in South Africa and it’s very frustrating to be without electricity for 6 hours a day. But you know what, let’s chat about Load Shedding on Wednesday’s Wondrous Words Wednesday post. Remember you are welcome to join in on this fun monthly meme. You can find all info needed in the highlighted link, or by clicking on the Wondrous Words graphic on the sidebar. But let’s talk books! Adding to the Litter We need to start stacking up for Fraterfest that’s just around the corner. Think The House on the Lake is going […]

Weekend Book Friends #34

Weekend Book Friends #34

Greetings you guys! Not only is it Friday, but it’s also holidays for my Mommy. Hooray! Here’s to hoping this short break there will be lots of time for reading and blogging. The last 3 holidays have been filled with renovations and anyone who has ever tried renovating, will know – reading is the least and the last of your concerns. To get us in the mood for reading, we are busy with a readalong with a few of our fellow South African bloggers and Instagrammers. Seeing that tomorrow is heritage day here in SA, it’s just fitting that we read a South African Book. Our book of choice is a strong read with tales from South African women who refuse to be erased by the circumstances that render them invisible. We are all reading it together and read a couple of chapters a day. We then share our thoughts on Instagram, Twitter and whatever other social media sites we see fit. We aren’t very fit overall, but at least we are taking part. Let’s quickly go and say hi to @ Reading is my Super Power for First Line Friday and to Gilion @ Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings.  Every Friday […]

The Classics Club – Spin #31 and Shelf Classics

The Classics Club – Spin #31 and Shelf Classics

Greetings! I feel as if I need to knock very softly and enter with a bunch of petunias or what ever flower might aid in people accepting your apology. I have been horrible with taking part in any activity hosted on The Classics Club for over a year.  I’m not even going to make excuses, I’m just going to try my best to get back on track! Last week I just happened to see there’s a new spin. The last one I did was spin #25. That’s some time ago… I also haven’t read a lot, okay any, of my Classics List in ages and my tally is still 2/50. I went through my Classics Club Reading list yesterday again and realized that most of the books on there, I really still want to read. I’m just not all that good with lists… But I thought, just to make it a bit easier, perhaps I should make a backup list as well. Especially with books I actually have on my physical shelf, but haven’t  read yet. For those unexpected spins I really want to take part in, but don’t have the book and I can quickly replace it with… Here’s a couple […]

Ten Books that need to FALL from my TBR shelf

Ten Books that need to FALL from my TBR shelf

Greetings! It’s Tuesday and time for Top Ten Tuesday. Today’s prompt is one of the seasonal ones – Ten Books on my Fall TBR list. Well, we are definitely ready for spring and summer here in the Southern Hemisphere, so a fall TBR is not going to work for me. But what will work for me, is to take a look at the books that need to FALL from my TBR shelf. I am not even going to go to my actual Goodreads TBR, even if we start today, we won’t be done with it by Fall 2030. I’ll go with the ones that stare us in the face on a daily basis. Who doesn’t love to borrow books from friends, colleagues and even students? Oh my Mommy loves it! But perhaps she needs to start reading them…. Fable by Adrienne Young Written in Blood by Chris Carter A Time for Mercy by John Grisham Yes, we all have a problem with overdue ARC’s and please don’t for a second think that these are the only ones on the shelf. These are just the ones we find the most pressing. On our hearts and minds and conscience that is. Singing Lessons […]

Book Blogger Memory Challenge

Book Blogger Memory Challenge

Greetings you guys! How is your weekend so far? We woke up yesterday morning thinking we haven’t done a Book Tag in ages. I know some people hate them, we aren’t part of that group and usually love it! We just tend to miss it like you can miss your luggage at an airport without tags attached. The importance of tags… Anyway, yesterday we saw this fun tag over at Carol and The Reading Ladies‘ gorgeous blog and thought we’d hop along for a bit of fun. But then we realized we don’t have a featured image and Anna’s been yapping to become part of MY blog… So my Mommy jumped on CANVA and 21:00 last night we had a brand new set of graphics. Including the mutt. Damn. So we are late to the party. But here we go, we are not going to miss out on another fun book tag! The Rules Answer the prompts without using the internet or looking at your bookshelves. Your answers have to come from MEMORY! Make sure to link to the person who originally tagged you and tag five other people if you’d like. *Just a sidenote on this – we actually […]

Blog Tour & Excerpt: Grimm Consequences by Kate Serine

Grimm Consequences by Kate Serine Series: Transplanted Tales #1.5 Published by eOriginals on April 1st, 2014 Genres: Fantasy, Paranormal Pages: 128 Source: Caffeinated PR Buy on Amazon Goodreads The author of Red “takes urban fantasy, crime thrillers and fairy tale characters and creates magic” in this paranormal romance novella (Caffeinated Book Reviewer). To put it lightly, Nate Grimm has a dark past. Fortunately, no one’s bothered to look too closely at the Fairytale Management Authority’s lead detective and part-time Reaper. And Nate wants to keep it that way. After centuries of torment and loneliness, he’s finally found happiness with the hot and hard-charging love of his life, Tess “Red” Little. Of course, his love for Tess is the reason there’s a posse of Reaper judges after him, led by a sadistic bastard acquainted with Nate from once upon a time. Now, Tess will pay the price for Nate’s transgressions unless Nate severs his ties to the transplanted Tales—and Tess—forever. His enemy has the advantage of speed, malice and brutality. But the Reapers have underestimated the depth of Nate’s love. And the fury of his wrath. Amazon | iBook | Kobo | B&N | Goodreads Greetings you guys! Top Ten Tuesday – Life’s a Beach

Top Ten Tuesday – Life’s a Beach

Hi Guys! Welcome to another TTT! This week’s topic was submitted by Lisa of Hopewell, and is Books with Geographical Terms in the Title. Oh we had endless ideas, this is quite a fun prompt! But spring finally seems to be making an appearance here with us and the mutt is big enough to start going to the beach. So let’s just entertain the little one and dedicate today’s TTT to the beach. On the Beach by Nevil Shute – perhaps not the best one to start with. But definitely one of our favorites. Beaches by Iris Rainer Dart – My Mommy really is giving her age away today. Another favorite. The Beach House by James Patterson – I remember this one, need to read this one again. Beach Read by Emily Henry – This one is on my TBR. Will try to read it this summer. The rest of the books on our list, we haven’t actually read. The Bookstore on the Beach by Brenda Novak Whiskey Beach by Nora Roberts  Beach Music by Pat Conroy  Beach Road by James Patterson The Beach Club by Elin Hilderbrand Beach Town by Mary Kay Andrews Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana […]
