Wondrous Words Wednesday – Easter

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Easter

Greetings! We are having so much fun doing nothing, that we very almost forgot about Wondrous Words Wednesday. But I reminded my Mommy at the last minute and voila! A lovely Eastery Wondrous Words post, just for you. This meme was first created by Kathy over at Bermuda Onion Blog and is now proudly hosted by yours truly. Wondrous Words Wednesday is a weekly meme where you can share new words that you’ve encountered, or spotlight words you love.  Feel free to get creative!  No rules apply here, just share any or all the lovely or new words you’ve encountered over the last fortnight.  Tips and ideas: Don’t go pull the Dictionary down from the shelf. Use words you came across in a book, a TV show, Google, a pamphlet, social media, doctor’s room, classroom – the possibilities are endless If you want to share a story around your chosen word, you are welcome If you want to link your chosen word up with a book or books, please do so  You are welcome to share photos or pictures that will describe your word just a bit better (who doesn’t love Pictionary) Let’s stick to words that are recognized in the English […]

Ten Places in Books we’d love to Live / Die / Travel in

Greetings all you wonderful Humans! How many of you have had the privilege to go travelling over the passed year? Or even better, moved to your dream destination? Life really wasn’t all that much fun the last year, but at least we can still travel and move to our favorite destinations in books. Books never fail on us.  Todays prompt for Top Ten Tuesday, is Places in Books we’d love to live in. But before you can decide where you really want to live, you first need to travel there. And if you are 100% sure that you found your dream destination to live in, you can find your dream destination to die in. We are going to cheat a bit, or not really cheating, rather just save time and take care o the earth and recycle a post. A couple of weeks ago, I used a similar idea for Friday Fives and listed 5 places we’d love to visit, because of books. We will use them again, because we would still love to travel there. And then we’ll add 5 new ones.  1. Guernsey from The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer 2. Rio de Janeiro from The […]

The Sunday Post #33

Greetings all you wonderful Humans! How have you been? I take it most of you in the Northern Hemisphere are starting to see the first buds of spring, while those of us in the Southern Hemisphere are starting to feel the sting of the autumn wind. Such is life I guess.  At least my Mommy is finally on holidays and we had a wonderful week of doing nothing. There is not a single thing of significance I can tell you about this week. Oh wait! There is 1 thing. After struggling with a sore hip and back and all other 40+ ailments, my Mommy’s physiotherapist suggested that she rather join a full ballet class again and not only the barre class. She started with that on Wednesday and although she was walking like a frog for 2 days, she appeared quite pleased.  No new books were acquired this week. In fact, we are all of a suddenly once again overwhelmed with the amount of books that are lying in ambush on our shelf and the Kindle. It’s a fierce and dangerous army, I tell you. Scratching the Blog Pole We didn’t write a Sunday Post last week as my Mommy […]

Throwback Thursday #6 – King Solomon’s Mines

Throwback Thursday #6 – King Solomon’s Mines

Greetings! It’s the first Thursday of our Easter Holidays and that means we finally have time again for Throwback Thursday. Or at least our version of it. We don’t quite play by Davida’s rules, but she is luckily very accommodating and doesn’t mind at all that we spin her spin. There are so many spins on the idea of Throwback Thursday, but we still like Davida’s idea the most: The Chocolate Lady’s #Throwback Thursday takes place on the Thursday before the first Saturday of every month. Yes, there is a linky and it will remain open until she uploads the new one. Thank Goodness. My first and last sometimes gets very confused.  Your post must highlight one of your previously published book reviews and Davida encourages other participants to do the same.  Add the link to your post and remember to link back to The Chocolate Lady’s Book Blog And do not forget to #ThrowbackThursday!   As this is our 6th Throwback Thursday, Mommy is looking back at her 6th review that’s done on the blog. Aaah yea!!! This book was one of the first Audio Books that my Mommy listened to and it’s a real classic. Fun to listen to and it was a […]

Wednesday Wisdom from A Year of Marvellous Ways

Wednesday Wisdom from A Year of Marvellous Ways

Greetings! We haven’t done a Wednesday Wisdom in ages. I’m convinced that is the reason for my Mommy doing all sorts of funny and crazy things lately. She needs to start enjoying the holidays now and gain some new wisdom. Like the wisdom of Marvellous Ways. Yes, that is actually someone’s name. I don’t care if it’s a fictional character, I think her name is simply, well, marvelous! It was a strange little book and my Mommy didn’t like it quite as much as When God was a Rabbit. But Marvellous’ infinite wisdom sure did earn her a place for a Wednesday Wisdom post. A Year of Marvelous Ways by Sarah Winman       Cornwall, 1947. Marvellous Ways is a ninety-year-old woman who’s lived alone in a remote creek for nearly all her life. Recently she’s taken to spending her days sitting on the steps of her caravan with a pair of binoculars. She’s waiting for something – she’s not sure what, but she’ll know it when she sees it. Freddy Drake is a young soldier left reeling by the war. He’s agreed to fulfil a dying friend’s last wish and hand-deliver a letter to the boy’s father in Cornwall. […]

Curious Tuesday #1 – Current Popular Reads

Greetings you all! It’s Tuesday and that means that it should actually be time for Top Ten Tuesday, one of our favorite weekly features. But my Mommy did a Ten Feline Book Titles that made me laugh out loud post a couple of weeks back and it is quite similar to this week’s prompt of Funny Book Titles. Don’t worry, we will go and visit all your funny titles later today! I have been nudging my Mommy to start a feature where I can simply quince my curiosity. I’m a cat and therefore, I am very inquisitive. Not to such a degree that it might kill me, but one never knows. I always have lots of questions and things that I wonder about and it normally starts with The Sunday Post. But by the next Sunday, we’ve forgotten all about it. Sometimes I am curious about a book that we see featured everywhere, sometimes about a movie or a show and sometimes just about random things that pop up in everyone’s discussions.  We don’t normally have time for all those lovely, long discussion posts, but maybe on this Curious Tuesday feature, we can also lay an egg or two every once in a […]

Friday Fives #4 – 5 Review copies we hope to read soon

Friday Fives #4 – 5 Review copies we hope to read soon

Greetings! My Mommy is officially on holidays and the last time we had time to do a Friday Fives, was the first Friday of the term. It was a hectic term and my Mommy sure needs a bit of a break!  Of course she is going to spend just about the whole holidays reading and sorting out her books. Especially the review copies. We do try to keep review copies at a bare minimum, but some books can be so tempting that you just can’t resist requesting them. And then there’s the author’s and publishers who always ask ever so nicely for a fair and honest review and you really imagine them looking at you like this: I’ve also perfected that look and I know that my Mommy really can’t say no to those begging eyes. So keep on sending those review copies, between you and me, we’ll get her to review it. Just to keep us a bit organized as well, today’s Friday Fives will be  Five review copies we hope to read within the next couple of weeks.  As always, we link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books […]

Cover Reveal – The Collector’s Daughter by Gill Paul

Cover Reveal – The Collector’s Daughter by Gill Paul

Greetings you all! Even though it is just about end of term for my Mommy and she can hardly drag herself out of bed in the mornings, she did one very happy dance last night. I am sure you all know who the acclaimed author Gill Paul is? We first came across her superb writing style when my Mommy read Women and Children First in April last year. (April is Titanic remembrance month in my Mommy’s eyes. If you feel the same, read that one). Anyways, Gill Paul has a new book that will be published in September this year and today is the cover reveal! My Mommy couldn’t believe her eyes when she opened her email yesterday and saw that we were chosen to take part in the cover reveal. I, of course, had no doubt. It’s very hard to resists me, you know. But I have to admit, I am equally as excited as my Mommy. This book looks brilliant and what a gorgeous cover. Blurb:   Bestselling author Gill Paul returns with a brilliant novel about Lady Evelyn Herbert, who grew up in Highclere Castle—the real Downton Abbey—and became the first person in modern times to enter the tomb of Ancient […]

The Sunday Post #32

Greetings Humans! Just a quick note to say that we haven’t drifted into outer space or descended into to darkest depths of the earth. Yes, I know we had just about no online presence this past week and I can just imagine how horrible that must have been for you. We haven’t even answered so many of our comments from two weeks passed… Will get to it today! School is crazily busy and my Mommy’s one teacher is still off with a back injury. Luckily, we are quickly approaching end of term and this upcoming week will already be a bit better. As from next weekend, she is all mine, all yours and all new building project coming up. I should still consult with King Solomon on how we are going to divide her, but I’m quite sure we will all get an equal share. Just to provide you with some comfort, here’s a lovely collage of yours truly taken over the passed couple of weeks.  And just like that you feel better already. Right?  We’ve received one request for review this week and my Mommy still thinks it’s wonderful if she gets a message through the contact form on […]
