Six Degrees of Separation – From Ethan Frome to A Boy Called Christmas

Six Degrees of Separation – From Ethan Frome to A Boy Called Christmas

Greetings! Welcome to another edition of Six Degrees of Separation. We haven’t done a Six Degrees post in months. How terrible. Just shows how quickly the year has passed us by. Can you still remember the rules? This monthly fun meme is hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best: On the first Saturday of every month, a book is chosen as a starting point and linked to six other books to form a chain. Books can be linked in obvious ways, for example: same authors, same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or you might choose to link them in more personal ways: books you read in the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend or books that remind you of a particular time in your life. The choices are endless here!  Our starting point for this month, is once again a book/novella that we have never heard about. Are we really that clueless? Good grief, no. It’s Christmas Time. How are we going to cheer this one up? Guess I’m going to have to build this one up a bit. Let’s start with the name + surname similarities. First Degree: Our first degree […]

Six Degrees of Separation – Send me a Postcard!

Six Degrees of Separation – Send me a Postcard!

Greetings you guys! First of all, so sorry that we’ve missed Six Degrees last month. It slipped us by and July passed in the blink of an eye. But we are back and very excited to join our favorite monthly meme again! I’m sure by now you all know the rules of this monthly fun meme hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best: On the first Saturday of every month, a book is chosen as a starting point and linked to six other books to form a chain. Books can be linked in obvious ways, for example: same authors, same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or you might choose to link them in more personal ways: books you read in the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend or books that remind you of a particular time in your life. The choices are endless here!  Our starting point for this month is a book we once again didn’t read, but we did see the movie a couple of years ago. Can you believe the movie for Postcards from the Edge came out in 1990? That’s over 30 years ago! I think my Mommy is […]

Six Degrees of Separation – One tomato short of a fruit salad

Six Degrees of Separation – One tomato short of a fruit salad

Greetings you all! I’m sure most of you in the Northern Hemisphere are enjoying the summer sun by now. Here in the Southern Hemisphere it is dreadfully cold already and we miss those hazy lazy crazy days of summer. I’m quite sure there is a bit more than 6 Degrees difference in temperature between us, but luckily there are no more than six degrees of separation between books! Our start off point for this month, is again a book we don’t know. I don’t know how we miss all these […]

Six Degrees of Separation – I know what you did and I’m telling Mom!

Six Degrees of Separation – I know what you did and I’m telling Mom!

Greetings you all! Can you believe it’s the 1st of May already? At least this year we know what the date is. Last year this time nobody had a cat’s tail idea what day it was on most given days. We didn’t do a Six Degrees of Separation in April, but we are back this month. Our starting point this month is the first book in series that kids all over the world have loved for 20 years.    Nine-year-old Beezus Quimby has her hands full with her little sister, […]

Six Degrees of Separation – From Phosphorescence to Lassie Come Home

Six Degrees of Separation – From Phosphorescence to Lassie Come Home

Greetings all you wonderful humans! How was your February? Our February was just about as crazy as the Six Degrees of Separation chain my Mommy is coming up with today. If there’s woman who knows how to pull a cat from a hat, it’s her. And somehow, it always end up making sense in some obscure way. Our starting point for this month, is a book that we’ve never heard of before. Come to think of it – most of the starting books are unfamiliar to us and I […]

Six Degrees of Separation – Missed it by a red hair’s breadth

Six Degrees of Separation – Missed it by a red hair’s breadth

Greetings you all! We’ve missed the first Saturday of February by a hair’s breadth. As you know, this wonderful meme, hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best should actually happen on the first Saturday of the month and not the first Monday. Hair’s breadth. But let’s net split hairs about this and let’s just join in the fun!  On the first Saturday of every month, a book is chosen as a starting point and linked to six other books to form a chain. Books can be linked in obvious ways, for example: same authors, same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or you might choose to link them in more personal ways: books you read in the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend or books that remind you of a particular time in your life. The choices are endless here!   Our starting point for this month, is a book we’ve never seen before and know nothing about:     But that’s the wonder of this fun meme, you don’t need to know anything about the book to find an angle to start from. For us, it was the author’s first name (Anne) and […]

Six Degrees of Separation – Hitting a Six for the New Year

Six Degrees of Separation – Hitting a Six for the New Year

Happy New Year Everyone! How was your Christmas and your New Year? It’s the first Saturday of 2021 and the first one in January. That means it’s time for Six Degrees of Separation  hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best. Our creative juices for the New Year are still only a bit of a drip and we didn’t came up with any clever chain this month. We are just going to jump on the first letter, first title bandwagon here. The fun thing about this month’s Six Degrees, is that the start-off book is six letters long. In some or other sport, that is like a winning score. So we’ll just […]

Six Degrees of Separation – December 2020

It’s a beautiful sun shining day and we’ve just realized that we haven’t done Six Degrees of Separation yet this month. We didn’t really have a plan for this month’s theme, but the closer we get to Christmas, the more inspiration struck. Six Degrees of Separation is hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best. The starting point for this month is Are you there God? It’s me, Margaret by Judy Blume We haven’t read this book yet, but it is on our Classics Club reading list, so I guess we’ll get to it sooner or later. Can’t tell you all that much about it, luckily Goodreads can! Margaret Simon, almost twelve, likes […]

Six Degrees of Separation Nov 2020 – One, Two, Buckle my Shoe

Greetings! No, it’s not raining cats and dogs. Yes, I did manage to have our Six Degrees of Separation published on the correct date. Yea to me and my Mommy! Did anyone else find the past month extremely long? Maybe it’s been all the horror in the world lately. Ever noticed that your average Horror Movie seems way longer than say your average Romantic Comedy? Apparently it’s the same in reality.   Luckily today is a beautiful sun shining day and Mommy has some time to work on the blog. Needless to say, I made sure that she starts with Six Degrees of Separation. It’s our fourth month taking part in this monthly feature hosted by Books are my Favorite and Best.  On the first Saturday of every month, a book is chosen as a starting point and linked to six other books to form a chain. Books can be linked in obvious ways, for example: same authors, same era or genre, or books with similar themes or settings. Or you might choose to link them in more personal ways: books you read in the same holiday, books given to you by a particular friend or books that remind you of a […]

Six Degrees of Separation October 2020 – The Ghost Edition

Welcome to our third edition of Six Degrees of Separation. Once again, we are a couple of days late for this monthly feature, but every month I am closing the gap a bit more. We apologize profoundly to our host, Books are my Favorite and Best. This month’s chain is set of with The Turn of the Screw by Henry James.  I’ve always loved books and reading, but what really got the reading juices flowing like a river, was when I discovered C.J. Langenhoven’s ghost stories. Unfortunately, they are not available in English, so unless you speak Afrikaans, you won’t be able to join in my excitement. Ever since then, I love a […]
