Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon April 2021

Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon April 2021

Wasn’t the passed weekend just the most fun ever? Who else took part in the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon? Yes, yes – I know we sound a bit like a baby who got candy for the first time, but this was just so fabulous! It was our first 24 hour readathon and also our first time playing Bingo. I do believe we might be addicted now and my Mommy is just looking for more challenges build around a Bingo board. Thankfully she needs to be back at school on Wednesday and the latest obsession will hopefully also pass. As promised, here is our final Bingo board and the books we’ve read: Blue Squares: Read a book that’s won an award, Read a book recommended or gifted to you.     Yes, we did go for the Afrikaans options here! Afrikaans is our home language and of course we will read books in Afrikaans faster than in English. Ek Wens, Ek Wens deur Zirk van den Berg won the kykNET Rapport prize for best book in 2020 here in South Africa and this little, magical books deserves it. It’s not available in English, I do hope I can say yet. Here’s a small blurp […]

Reading Challenges 2021

Oh woe is me, oh how dreadful this will be. Yes, yes – I am being a bit over dramatic here. But please just put yourself in my paws for a minute or two. Just a couple of hours ago, I told you how grateful I am that my Mommy managed to finished her Alphabet Reading Challenge 2020. She got distracted by no less than 25 book of the planned 54 to make up a grand total of 79 books.  Apparently she now thinks she’s the queen of all Reading Challenges and decided to sign up for 4 (four) ????, Reading Challenges and aim to read 80 (eighty) 10 x ????????, books in 2021. Good Grief Woman. You do know that you still have to work, feed all of us, uphold your social calendar and pay attention to Daddy?? Maybe I should rather just give her the benefit of the doubt. She has proven to be able to complete a task at hand, even though it might be in some unconventional ways. So let’s see what she’s planning.  (You are all of course aware that if these challenges do materialize successfully, I will take all the credit. If not, it’s all […]

As Easy as ABC

It’s the very last day of 2021 and I can almost not believe that my Mommy managed to complete her Alphabet Reading Challenge with only a couple of hours to spare. Hooray! Bring out the champagne! When she said she’s going to do an Alphabet Reading Challenge the beginning of this year, I wasn’t much fazed. 26 Books isn’t that hard a challenge. But then she had to go and bring in a twist, just to make sure my nerves will get in a knot. First of all, she decided to do the 27 letter Alphabet. The one with the ampersand in. And just to make sure I will really become a nervous wreck, she decided to read two books for each letter of the alphabet. One for the title and one for the author. Good Grief, woman! You really don’t want me to grow old with you? I took a few deep breaths and decided that 54 books might be manageable. There’s however, one very, very, huge, problem with my Mommy. She constantly gets distracted by other books and lose track of the task at hand.  But if I look back today at what was accomplished, I guess putting […]

Nine and three quarters through a reading challenge

If I’m not mistaken, we should be about nine and three quarters through the year by now. Halloween is staring us in the face with those creepy eyes and Christmas is just around the corner. According to my Mommy’s Goodreads 2020 Challenge, she is at 102% with her reading challenge. How is that even possible? I’m very proud of her, although she’s a bit of a cheat. She constantly gets off-track from her planned Alphabet challenge. The one with the 27 letters in. She has to complete 27 books starting with each letter of the 27 letter alphabet, as well as 27 books whose authors start with each letter of the 27 letter alphabet – before 31 December 2020. Unfortunately, she is is bit like the dog in Up, very easily distracted. Mostly by other books. I just had her back on track, but she’s currently distracted by the Fraterfest reading-a-thon and it’s not as if she picks books that can qualify for the reading challenge. This is a useless battle.  I gave you an update on her progress when we were slam dunk in the middle of the year The Battle of Midway (halfway through a Reading Challenge). Let’s see how far she […]

The battle of Midway (halfway through a reading challenge)

Oh the joys of a reading challenge! Let’s be honest – who of us, roaming the blogosphere, do not have a yearly reading challenge? Or one or two. Or three or four. If you have a Goodreads account (again, who of us don’t), you basically automatically have an annual reading challenge. Just about every blogger on this lovely planet display their Goodreads challenge somewhere on the blog. It looks lovely! And of course, it means you are serious about this reading business. (I haven’t posted mine on the new blog yet…. But I am still very serious about the reading business) I haven’t actually done a reading challenge, except for the Goodreads one, in about three years. So when I decided to get serious about this serious business of reading, this year again, I’ve decided to do the age-old, ever trust worthy – Alphabet challenge. The one with the 27 letters in. A challenge has to be challenging. 27 Books are also not going to cut it for me, so I’ve decided to do 27 titles and 27 authors. Seeing that today, 02 July 2020, is the midway mark of 2020 (just hang on guys, we are half-way through!), I’ve […]
