The Classics Club Spin #34

The Classics Club Spin #34

Greetings you guys! It’s time for another Classics Club spin! I don’t participate with every spin and tend to just hop on when I just happen to spot one. And of course we love taking part. How else will we ever get through our Classics Club Reading list?! What is the spin? It’s easy. At your blog, before next Sunday 18th June, 2023 create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list. This is your Spin List. You have to read one of these twenty books by the end of the spin period. Try to challenge yourself. For example, you could list five Classics Club books you have been putting off, five you can’t WAIT to read, five you are neutral about, and five free choice (favourite author, re-reads, ancients, non-fiction, books in translation — whatever you choose.) On Sunday 18th, June we’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by the 6th August, 2023. I’ve said it before and I will probably still have to say it numerous times – my Mommy is not good with lists. In […]

The Classics Club Spin #31 – Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

The Classics Club Spin #31 – Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

Greetings you guys! I am ever so proud of my Mommy. She just managed to finish her Classics Club Spin #31 book. Luckily it was a quick read, but by no means a light or an easy read. I’m sure we are in the minority of Classics Lovers who haven’t read this one yet: To review this book, will be no easy task either. If you look on Goodreads, there are over 43 000 reviews on this book, some of our  favorite readers and bloggers amongst them. It does appear as if we are going to be in the minority with our 3.5 Star review as well. Yes, this book was beautifully written – wow. You can get lost in the prose and forget about the content as a whole. But then again, reading is a holistic experience. So why only 3.5 stars? The world has changed. Hasn’t it? Somehow, it became lighter. Somehow, it became heavier to carry a friend. Somehow, having a piece of the land isn’t the dream anymore. And somehow, we live in that world and adapts to it. As humans do. We become isolated to the story of George and Lennie. Animal cruelty will not […]

The Classics Club – Spin #31 and Shelf Classics

The Classics Club – Spin #31 and Shelf Classics

Greetings! I feel as if I need to knock very softly and enter with a bunch of petunias or what ever flower might aid in people accepting your apology. I have been horrible with taking part in any activity hosted on The Classics Club for over a year.  I’m not even going to make excuses, I’m just going to try my best to get back on track! Last week I just happened to see there’s a new spin. The last one I did was spin #25. That’s some time ago… I also haven’t read a lot, okay any, of my Classics List in ages and my tally is still 2/50. I went through my Classics Club Reading list yesterday again and realized that most of the books on there, I really still want to read. I’m just not all that good with lists… But I thought, just to make it a bit easier, perhaps I should make a backup list as well. Especially with books I actually have on my physical shelf, but haven’t  read yet. For those unexpected spins I really want to take part in, but don’t have the book and I can quickly replace it with… Here’s a couple […]

Classics Club Spin #26

Classics Club Spin #26

Greetings! How are all you lovers all things Classic doing today? It’s time for another Classics Club spin. We loved taking part in this for the previous round and also loved our book! Classics Club Spin #25 – Around the world in Eighty Days. Of course we are going to take part in this. Heck, we need to. It appears as if it will be the only time my Mommy actually reads her list on the The Classics Club Challenge. I think it’s more of an adventure than an actual challenge and as it goes with many adventures – it’s all about the journey and not the destination. Luckily we always have the lovely creators of The Classics Club to keep us on our toes with the So how do you go about joining in the fun? It’s easy. At your blog, before this Sunday, 18 April 2021, create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list. This is your Spin List. On Sunday 22nd November, they’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 31 May 2021. We can so do […]

The Classic Meme 2.0 – Who is your favorite Classic Character?

The Classic Meme 2.0 – Who is your favorite Classic Character?

Greetings Humans! It’s a lazy Saturday afternoon and my Mommy just feels like lying on the couch, reading her book. Me, on the other hand, are as awake as a kitten who were up half the night chasing imaginary mice, can be. And I want to take part in The Classics Club Classic Meme 2.0.  The latest question they gave us to ponder about is: Who is your favorite Classic Character? Why? Technically, that’s two questions. But let’s not split hairs about it. My Mommy says one should always be polite and being a nosy wise-ass isn’t polite at all. She didn’t particularly wanted to answer this question, but she gladly passed it on to me. I wonder if you will be able to guess my favorite classic character? Not difficult at all. I’ll give you 10 more seconds. * * * * * * * * * * I have enough faith in the human race to believe some of you did guess correctly. Of course my favorite Classic Character is Just to clarify – my favorite character is the cat, not Dick. I’m sure the story/folklore of Dick Whittington and his Cat, will need not introduction on this platform. This […]

The Classics Club Spin #25 – Around the World in Eighty Days

The Classics Club Spin #25 – Around the World in Eighty Days

Greetings! How are all you lovers all things Classic doing today? Yes, I’m still a novice and my blog icon still fall under current princesses, but watch this face – one day I will be a Classic. Until then, I’ll just join my Mommy in her pursuit of The Classics Club Challenge. I think it’s more of an adventure than an actual challenge and as it goes with many adventures – it’s all about the journey and not the destination. That journey takes planning and careful consideration of what route to start off on. That’s exactly why we were ever so excited when the The Classics Club Spin #25 landed on number 14. Our number 14 on this spin, was Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. I don’t think this story needs much of an introduction and it was one of those choices that everyone knows. Even the kids at school (they love Jules Verne).   One night in the reform club, Phileas Fogg bets his companions that he can travel across the globe in just eighty days. Breaking the well-established routine of his daily life, he immediately sets off for Dover with his astonished valet Passepartout. Passing through exotic lands and […]

The Classics Club (I finally did it!)

The Classics Club (I finally did it!)

I am so excited for this post today, I’ve been meaning to join The Classics Club for such a long time. When I first started blogging 3 years ago, I meant to do it. Never got round to it. This time around, I’m pulling an Eliza Doolittle on myself and move my bloomin ass. No time for too much chitchat here, there’s lots of books that need to be entered here. In case you also want to to join, here’s the fine print: – choose 50+ classics – list them at your blog – choose a reading completion goal date up to five years in the future and note that date on your classics list of 50+ titles – e-mail the moderators of the Classics Club blog (theclassicsclubblog@gmail.com) with your list link and information and it will be posted on the Members Page! – write about each title on your list as you finish reading it, and link it to your main list – when you’ve written about every single title, let them and everyone else know! It did take me some time to compile my list. I mostly made use of The Goodreads Classic Must Read List and I was actually quite surprised […]
