The Sunday Post #21

Greetings Human! Amazingly enough, I am not posting from cat-jail. The perpetrator in custody on our Post Header photo, is not me! I am very proud to inform you that our Christmas tree is still standing and no ornaments have been harmed as this post is published.  How was your last fortnight? Ours were hectically busy, but it was mostly good as well. School closed officially on the 2nd of December, but all the teachers were still working until last Saturday. Hence our absence on the blogosphere. If only Mommy wants to start leaving her laptop here, I can type and post away. Alas.  Mommy’s been working from home this week and will finish with all online classes as well on Tuesday. It’s been wonderful to have her at home and we’ve spend the whole weekend cuddling on the couch. I think she was still recovering from her Birthday celebrations on Wednesday. With lockdown regulations, she wasn’t allowed to have her big, Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy party, but she did get together with a couple of friends for the day and they spend it making Christmas wreaths and other Christmas goodies. And drinking Champagne. On Wednesday night, they had […]

The Sunday Post #20

Greetings you all! As you can see, our tree is up and it’s time to get jolly and and just say tra la la la la la la to everything that upsets you. Don’t you think I am the most beautiful Christmas decoration of them all? How was your week? Our week was long and tedious. Mommy was in more than just a bit of a mood for most of the week, but she game home on Friday all smiles and determined to put the Christmas Tree up. We spend the whole day yesterday and I think it looks lovely! Perfect jungle gym for a 13 month old kitten. Let’s talk books. I want to go and sit underneath the tree and see where I can start climbing and throw some (most) of those sparkly thingies off.  Adding to the Litter Actually, I don’t really want to talk about all the new books. I had my Mommy down for a good talk to about her TBR shelf that surpassed the maximum amount of 500 books. You can read more about that in our Friday Fives post that will be added below. Friday was Black Friday and the only shop she […]

The Sunday Post #19

Greetings! And so another week flew by with the blink of an eye. We now only have 8 school days left for the year. That is IF we remain open. On Thursday one of the bigger schools in our area closed for the rest of the year and on Friday another one a bit further down the valley. Just like that, Covid hit home. Throughout this past year, our little town and community remained relatively uninfected, but over the last couple of days, it became a harsh reality. We even made the national headlines! My mommy says it was quite surreal at school on Friday with lots of kids being absent again. She says going through the attendance registers, you just heard:  “He’s not here, his Granny’s got Covid.”  “Absent! Her Mommy’s ill.” “Not here Mam, they all have Covid.” Thankfully, none has been too serious cases and we do wish all our friends and our community a speedy recovery. Otherwise, not much to tell! Even through long hours and hectic days, my Mommy manages to get some reading done and she did spend a bit of time on the blog. A welcome escape from reality and a safer option. […]

The Sunday Post #18

Greetings Humans! How are you all doing on this lovely Sunday? Anybody else feeling like curling up in a ball and go to sleep? You can wake me up when it’s Christmas. The past two weeks has really been rough and tough and causing a sour disposition. Daddy says The Silly Season is not the holiday season, it’s this time of year. People are demanding and rude and over-worked and under-payed and over-stressed and just generally the reason why I’m ever so glad I belong to the feline species. Poor Mommy. At least she has me to come home to.  How was your week? How’s the weather? Always an easy subject. No idea what’s happening in politics this week. Just give me the highlights if you feel like sharing.  Let’s rather talk book. That is the safest option of them all!  Adding to the Litter A couple of weeks ago, my Mommy said that she is not going to reactivate her Netgalley account. I didn’t say a thing, because I know she cannot leave an ARC alone as much as a cat can leave a Christmas tree alone. Can’t wait for it to be put up! But I will glare […]

The Sunday Post #17

Greetings all you lovely Humans! So sorry that we didn’t get to grace you with our presence last week Sunday. The last fortnight felt a bit like the game Fortnite. No idea what it’s about, but I know the kids at school are consumed by it and they hardly have time to do anything else. Quite similar as where we are at the moment.  We are finally starting to have more spring weather, but the spring in our steps are seriously getting worn out now. You do know that the school year ends in December here in good old South Africa? That means that we’ve literally only had one term of “normal” this year with the last term left with only 22 school days. Just about all my Mommy’s students are back at school with a few new enrolments (this time of year? Yes, I know. Crazy!). Planning for the new year (with 2 to 3 variants) are in full swing, parent meetings are happening daily, transfer letters and recommendations are written in Mommy’s sleep and her student assistant is writing exams. No wonder the poor woman buys so much books.  In less exciting news, the Covid Numbers are spiking […]

The Sunday Post #16

Hello all you beautiful Humans! Did you miss me? As you can see, poor Stinkie is dead tired after his week of the Fraterfest read-a-thon. Or maybe it wasn’t the read-a-thon, but just life in general that has him so tired. I do know my mommy suffers a bit from that at the moment. What a week the poor woman had! She and Stinkie were planning a nice, normal school week with a couple of hours every day to read their scary books. Alas. Life seriously got in the way this week. Luckily they still have me to always jump in at the last minute and safe the day. Almost like America in WWII.  Okay, I didn’t really safe anything. But I am doing today’s Sunday Post – even though Stinkie should have done it. I also cuddled the whole day with my Mommy yesterday and helped her to finish her last two books for Fraterfest Read-a-thon. And that is how you safe the world. Just some small acts of random kindness. That’s not my cleverness, it comes from the Big Man himself. How did you do with the Fraterfest Read-a-thon? Team Mommy & Stinkie’s final tally: 3 Books 2 Short […]

The Sunday Post #15

Greetings Humans. Trust you all had a prosperous week and are enjoying a comfortable weekend. As I’m sure you’ve noticed just from the tone of voice, it’s not the little, annoying kitten talking to you today. Stinkie here. Your reluctant host for Fraterfest Read-a-thon 2020. Elza has been in hiding for the past 3 days as she is scared of horror and scary stories.  It’s impossible to deny her anything, therefore I need to play host for todays post and all the Fraterfest updates. This might only be in your favor as I don’t have time for all that chitter-chat. Our week was good. How was yours?  Are you taking part in The Fraterfest Read-a-thon? Not much interested in your progress, but Elza and our mother will be aghast if I don’t at least ask. How’s it going?  Scratching the Blog Pole You will notice that Elza has been in charge of all the posts. If you haven’t read all her chitchat yet and have time for that sort of thing, simply click on the image that finds your favor. Direct links are added. A ridiculous Top Ten Tuesday Post. But they loved it.   Our sign-up post and updates.  Featuring our First Fraterfest […]

The Sunday Post #14

Greetings Humans! How was your last 7 days? True to its form, week 41 of 2020 was nothing but chaos and mayhem. Not all bad though. School started on Monday and I hardly saw my Mommy this past week. She left early in the mornings, worked till late and attended meetings 3 nights this week. Yes, I am extremely naughty this weekend.  Our country has also been in so much turmoil again this week. My Mommy says she doesn’t really want to talk about it. Although what we actually need is more international coverage on the brutal attacks and murders of farmers in South Africa. Our government turns a blind eye and the people are really getting fed-up now. Concerns over escalating protests should govt fail to deal with farm murders The bestest news for this week, is that my Mommy’s art classes started again on Thursday. I’ve told you before that my Mommy works in a mainstream school, but she and her lovely team run the special needs program. And she’s the librarian (books balance everything out). Of course she needs therapy, and what better therapy than art. They are a colorful bunch of ladies who gather weekly with lots […]

The Sunday Post #13

Such happy greetings to you all today! My Mommy and Daddy are back from their holiday and I can’t even pretend to behave like a cat and simply ignore them. I am soooo glad to see them, I jus snuggle and purr and listen to all their stories.  They had such a lovely time. I think they had a nice rest as well, they don’t look like sleepy dogs all that much anymore. Mommy says her favorite part of the holiday was the Elephant Sanctuary in Plettenberg Bay. They got to walk with the elephants and feed them and just spend some time with the gentle giants. Not that I’m jealous or anything, but I do believe that she would have adopted a baby elephant if you give her half a chance and double the space. Thankfully the Good Lord above created fluffy white kittens as well and she can love me to her heart’s content. I’m sure you will still hear about the elephants for a few posts to come.  The rest of their holiday was spent taking long walks, visiting a lovely spa, going to the local markets, eating, drinking, sleeping and of course – reading a lot! Here’s […]

The Sunday Post #12

Greetings humans.  No exclamation marks or smiling kitties today. My Mommy’s heart is a bit heavy and mine are just scared and confused. In my little, simply a kitten mind, I was under the impression that animals were placed under the care of humans. I’m sure I’ve read it in that Big Black Book next to my Mommy’s bedside.  Not sure who’s mistaken here, but seeing that I’m from a species who cannot speak for themselves, it will most probably be us in the wrong. Ever noticed how humans can justify everything with spoken words? On Thursday, disgruntled employees at the Fairview Racecourse in Port Elizabeth (this is very close to where we live), went on a stabbing spree while venting their anger over the non-payment of UIF money. One horse was killed with a panga and several others seriously injured.   Eyewitness News How terribly sad when innocent animals are slaughtered and abused due to greed and hate. It makes me very scared and my Mommy very sad. On Thursday it is heritage day in South Africa, but Mommy says she will not celebrate it. This is not her heritage. Let’s try to be a bit more cheerfully, shall we? […]
