Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Favourite quotes from books

It’s Tuesday and I was so hoping to have lots of time to do my Top Ten Tuesday post this week. We are on holiday and there are few extra hours in the day for blogging. Alas… The hours aren’t the problem – It’s the wifi and cellphone signals. Luckily we have old stock that can be revived. If I had to make a brand new post today, I would rather have left it. And Todays prompt is one of my favorite topics to talk about, that’s why I have my weekly fortnightly Wednesday Wisdom post. Ten Favourite Quotes from books.  I’ve made this post over 3 years ago and some are still relevant. Would have been great to update it! But I have books to read today and a holiday to enjoy….Uploading one picture/link takes at least 10 minutes. So nope, let’s just enjoy the original ones!  1. The One plus One by Jojo Moyes (this one is dedicated to those brainy guys who use numbers and equations to confuse us mere mortals ) The law of probability combined with the law of large numbers state that to break the odds, sometimes you have to repeat an event an increasing number of times in […]

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books to proof the world (and all its books) DOES revolve around me

Greetings humans! How are you all on this fabulous Tuesday? Tuesdays are of course synonym with Top Ten Tuesday. Today our lovely host, Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl, gave us one of best possible prompts – A cover freebie! You can do with this whatever you want, as long as its centered on book covers.  This is the ideal opportunity for me to showcase just how much the world of books truly revolve around cats. Have you ever noticed how many book covers feature cats? Especially on the cozy mystery side. I strongly suspect that a cat is a prerequisite for your modern day sleuth. It does make perfect sense you know. We are inquisitive, have 6,7,8,9 senses and we never get emotionally involved. Like dogs.  Only problem today is, there are hundreds of books with cats on the covers and we are only allowed 10 books. Solution: Ten Books with White Cats on the cover.       1. The cat who came for Christmas by Cleveland Amory 2. The cat and the Curmudgeon by Cleveland Amory 3. The Best Cat Ever by Cleveland Amory Yes, this is a trilogy and although we haven’t read it yet, I do believe there are a […]

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books that make me Hungry

It’s Tuesday and time for everyone’s favorite weekly meme – Top Ten Tuesday! As usual, it is hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. My Mommy is having a glass of wine and some popcorn and I am nibbling on my Nibbles. You just can’t help snacking with today’s theme: 10 Books that make me hungry. Food, food, glorious food…. Pair it with books and you have a magnificent day. Add in a few cocktails and your week will be pretty much perfect!  1. Recipes for Love and Murder – A Tannie Maria mystery by Sally Andrew No, the title is not misleading. Or not completely. This book actually does come with recipes. In fact, all three books in this series come with the recipes included. Best part, it is all proudly South African. This is a cozy mystery with lots of laughs and typical South African characters. If you don’t want to read it, it’s worth getting the books just for the recipes. Delicious! 2. Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin Still on the continent. Go visit Angel in Rwanda and make sure to order one of her buttery cakes.  3. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender This book has been […]

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 books that should be adapted for Netflix

……and – Action! Welcome to another episode of Top Ten Tuesday! Today we will try our best to convince the Netflix creators / directors / writers / sponsors / producers, to bring 10 books we loved, alive on screen.  This was a great prompt, but strangely enough, not so easy to make a selection. I don’t watch all that much TV, but I do love a good adaptation.  My husband loves watching Jack Ryan and I can list quite a few movies/series adaptations that I loved! From Agatha Christie to Pretty Little Liars. I went through my Goodreads books and listed books that I thought would make great movies/series. And then I had to start scratching out… The Casual Vacancy;  The Nightingale; Where the Crawdads Sing; Devil at my heels (Unbroken); The woman in the window I was pleasantly surprised to see how many books have been adapted lately and how many are in production stages. Not to mention the older ones that I’ve somehow missed! Jippie Yea! I have some TV to look forward to. If they would only add the following books as well, the small screen will be ever so great:  1. Shelter in Place by Nora Roberts (TV series at least 20 episodes) Why? […]

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books that’s been all Talk and no Chalk

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today’s prompt is to list 10 books that you’ve loved, but never reviewed. I’ve only been back to blogging for about 2 months now, so this one is going to be an easy ride. Although I haven’t blogged for about 3 years, I never stopped reading. As I was browsing through the books that I did review on my previous blog (I am busy importing them to Book Remeows), I’ve realized that there are actually a number of books I absolutely love and can never stop talking about, but I have never reviewed them. A quote, a line and a mention here and there, but never a full review.  Goodness Gracious me… Maybe I should just read them all again and do a proper review. Here’s my 10 books I can never stop talking about, but you’ll find very little chalk from either me or Elza on them. Some of these have been read years ago, but I still talk about them. Rather diverse list here, but that’s the magic of books! 1. The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman 2. Mister God, this is Anna by Fynn 3. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis […]

Top Ten Tuesday – I see your True Colors

Welcome to Top Ten Tuesday! Today’s prompt is going to be a colorful one. Jana over at That Arsty Reader Girl  requested that we list 10 books with colors in the title. Does that mean we are going to be able to see everyone’s True Colors? Yea! I do hope that most of you are a bit more colorful than me. Yes, a fluffy white kitten is the most adorable thing on earth, but you do know that white is actually a non-color? Luckily, my Mommy is a very colorful person. You should see our house. Auntie Elaine calls it a friendly, coloring book. Unfortunately, she is also a teacher. So yes, she is going to handle this post as a lesson on the color wheel.  Good luck with that. I’m just going to curl up here and take a nap while she puts on her teacher’s voice.  ******* Okay, Class! Did you know, all colors are nothing but a mixture of primary colors? There are 3 primary colors:  Half of a YELLOW Sun – Chimamanda Ngosi Adichie Read on Goodreads The hunt for RED October – Tom Clancy Read on Goodreads Two little girls in BLUE – Mary Higgins Clark Read on Goodreads    […]

Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Reasons why Reading and Blogging is good for you in 2020

It’s Tuesday and time for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week is a freebie, so you can pick your own topic and just run with it. Yea!  My mommy started blogging again about 6 weeks ago, after more than 2 years. I wish I can tell you the difference it makes in her general psyche. Not that she was a psycho, though. I am convinced that if you cut my mommy open, words and stories and tales will come flying out like butterflies. That I’ll catch.  So for this week’s freebie, I’ve decided to compile: 10 Reasons why Reading and Blogging is good for you in 2020.  The past couple of months have been a bit of a tough time for the human race. All over the globe, people have been forced into lock down and it is having a massive effect on people in a gazillion different ways. Us felines love having our humans stuck at home. Well, most of the time. So let’s see how blogging and reading can make your experiences a bit easier.  1. It gives you something to do I will never ever understand the word or the concept […]

Top Ten Tuesday 10 Books that make me smile

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is absolutely purrrrrfect! “10 Books that make me smile”. It hasn’t been the easiest time for smiles around the world lately. My mommy loves singing the following song to me: “Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though it’s breaking When there are clouds in the sky you’ll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow You’ll see the sun come shining through For you Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear maybe ever so near That’s the time you must keep on trying Smile- what’s the use of crying You’ll find that…” Even if you have to wear your mask THE.WHOLE.DAY. Remember to smile behind it. And if you need something to smile about, here’s my Mommy’s 10 favorite books to bring a smile behind your mask: Good Omens by Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman Why? Aziraphale (angel with some bad) and Crowley (demon with some good) Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery  Why?  Anne with an ‘e’ (you just smiled, didn’t you?) Right ho, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse Why? Right ho, Jeeves! Yes, Sir.  Me before you by Jojo Moyes Why? Louisa […]

Top Ten Tuesday 10 Authors I’ve read the most books by

It’s Tuesday and time for our favorite weekly feature – TTT! Today’s prompt appear to be very easy: Top Ten Authors I’ve read the most books by. And it would have been VERY easy, if only Goodreads didn’t remove that thingy that you could click on and browse your shelf to see which authors you’ve read the most My whole post depended on that little thingy. And I couldn’t find it. It took me hours to figure out that it’s actually completely gone, void, permanently removed, disappeared into the black hole of inactive pages and links.  Am I the only one who only realised now that the thingy on Goodreads are inactive?  Luckily, the Good Lord above blessed us all with the best possible computer thingy ever invented. To quote Mr Poirot: “the little grey cells”. Some things we can actually still do without the aid of technology. Like thinking (“an admirable exercise, my friend. Continue with it” – Poirot), and reminiscing on all those wonderful books we’ve read already. Of course all those books have been written by certain Somebodies. And we tend to refer back to those Somebodies, for various reasons. Here’s my Top Ten Favorite Somebodies and […]

Top Ten Tuesday 10 Books set in South Africa

It’s Tuesday and we’ve been playing around with this week’s prompt for  Top Ten Tuesday for a couple of days now. “Pick a past TTT topic you’ve done and re-do/update it”. My mommy’s been strolling down memory lane, aka Mareli Thalk Ink, searching for a previous post that we can use and link up with That Artsy Girl, our lovely host for this weekly feature.  We are from the land way down there on the southern most part of Africa, South Africa. We live in a picturesque coastal town, called Jeffreys Bay. Our hometown is one of the five most famous surfing destination in the world and hosts the annual World Surf League surfing event at Super Tubes during July. It’s better known as the Corona Open. Rather ironic, don’t you think? And I have no idea what that actually means. I haven’t even been born last July and so far, nothing much except the world wide Lock Down is occurring here or on our beautiful beaches. But we are still reading. And we are still proudly South African. So let’s share 10 books set in South Africa with you today. Mommy has made a few tweaks and add-on’s and she even listed the books according to genres, to […]
