Top Ten Tuesday – Favorite “Aww” Moments in Books

Top Ten Tuesday – Favorite “Aww” Moments in Books

Greetings you guys! Time for Top Ten Tuesday! Are we the only ones who don’t get to very much more but TTT lately? I LOVE weekly memes, but I struggle to keep up at the moment. End of the year tiredness is hitting us hard this year. Anyone else feeling the same? This week’s prompt for TTT, is favorite “aww” moments in books. And for a chance, we are sticking to the theme 100%. No quirky headings, no pet-themed books, just following the prompt. I already had to wreck my brain for this one. I guess if I wrecked it a bit more, I might have been able to find 10 “aww” pets or books that are completely “aww”. While browsing through my Goodreads shelves, I just realized that I don’t read a lot of “aww” books…. So some of my choices might rather make you go “huh” than “aww”. “Aww” animals who are simply “aww” and I can’t think of any specific scene: Marcellus from Remarkably Bright Creatures Olivia from The Last House on Needless Street Three-Sixty from Lessons in Chemistry War can have “aww” moments (if you haven’t read any of these, don’t read my “aww” moments, they are spoilers): […]

Weekend Book Friends #34

Weekend Book Friends #34

Greetings you guys! Not only is it Friday, but it’s also holidays for my Mommy. Hooray! Here’s to hoping this short break there will be lots of time for reading and blogging. The last 3 holidays have been filled with renovations and anyone who has ever tried renovating, will know – reading is the least and the last of your concerns. To get us in the mood for reading, we are busy with a readalong with a few of our fellow South African bloggers and Instagrammers. Seeing that tomorrow is heritage day here in SA, it’s just fitting that we read a South African Book. Our book of choice is a strong read with tales from South African women who refuse to be erased by the circumstances that render them invisible. We are all reading it together and read a couple of chapters a day. We then share our thoughts on Instagram, Twitter and whatever other social media sites we see fit. We aren’t very fit overall, but at least we are taking part. Let’s quickly go and say hi to @ Reading is my Super Power for First Line Friday and to Gilion @ Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings.  Every Friday […]

Book Blogger Memory Challenge

Book Blogger Memory Challenge

Greetings you guys! How is your weekend so far? We woke up yesterday morning thinking we haven’t done a Book Tag in ages. I know some people hate them, we aren’t part of that group and usually love it! We just tend to miss it like you can miss your luggage at an airport without tags attached. The importance of tags… Anyway, yesterday we saw this fun tag over at Carol and The Reading Ladies‘ gorgeous blog and thought we’d hop along for a bit of fun. But then we realized we don’t have a featured image and Anna’s been yapping to become part of MY blog… So my Mommy jumped on CANVA and 21:00 last night we had a brand new set of graphics. Including the mutt. Damn. So we are late to the party. But here we go, we are not going to miss out on another fun book tag! The Rules Answer the prompts without using the internet or looking at your bookshelves. Your answers have to come from MEMORY! Make sure to link to the person who originally tagged you and tag five other people if you’d like. *Just a sidenote on this – we actually […]

Happy Second Anniversary!

Happy Second Anniversary!

Oh happy day you guys! Today is our two year anniversary here on Elza Reads. Can you believe that? I know, I know – how wonderful live is since we’ve joined the blogosphere. For me, for my Mommy and for you guys. Over the last two years we’ve posted …. I don’t know how may posts.  I also have no idea how many comments we’ve had so far. Or page visits. Followers are easy, but that might not be a fair calculation. We’ve switched to WordPress less than a year ago and lost our Blogger followers. Still not sure how to built that up again. Sometimes I miss Blogger, their stats were easier to follow than WordPress. I just had a quick look at our first anniversary blog post and as predicted, my Mommy did tweak the theme and graphics and everything else more than once, again. Heck, she switched platforms and basically had us starting all over! But I am not complaining, I do love the WordPress site. Even though we hardly understand anything. However much I love this site, I still say our very first theme in Blogger, Fluffy white Kitten (that was honestly the theme’s name) was the bestest. What more […]

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Pulp Fiction

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Pulp Fiction

Greetings you guys! Welcome to Wondrous Words Wednesday, hosted by yours truly. We’ve had a couple of lovely patrons over the last couple of WWW posts and I will add a Mister Linky Widget to the end of this post again so you can all add your links. The concept of Wondrous Words Wednesday is fairly easy, all you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here. You are also most welcome to use any of our graphics. As long as I appear in one of them, I have no problem with it at all. I can’t believe it’s March already! Did time fly so fast between 1896 and the 1950’s as well? In case you didn’t know (I didn’t), that was the time period for our Wondrous Words today. I’ve been trying to get Greg from Greg’s Book Haven to take part in Wondrous Words Wednesday for months, but he doesn’t want to fall for my charms. So I thought if […]

The Sunday Post #62

The Sunday Post #62

Greetings! How are you all doing? Who wants to talk Agatha Christie? My Mommy has been a bit obsessive the last week or so. Okay, to be fair towards her, she is usually slightly obsessive when it comes to Agatha Christie, but the new Kenneth Branagh’s latest adaptation of Death on the Nile, pushed her over the edge. That’s why we’ve missed our Sunday Post last week. We were too busy drawing comparisons between the different adaptations and the book. If you’ve missed it, you can read our post here – Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie.  I’m trying to think if anything else excited happened over the last 2 weeks. Nothing that I can think of. Renovations are still ongoing, school is still busy, I’m still adorable. Let’s see what happened in our bookish lives. Adding to the litter The Country Club Murders has been on our radar for ages. When the first instalment on Book Bub’s daily deals, we grabbed it immediately. No to get time to read it. Cats in the City of Plague is one of those novellas we stumbled on by pure chance. This sounds lovely and I’m sure we will read it one night this […]

The Sunday Post #54

The Sunday Post #54

Greetings you guys! How has life been treating you lately? Who agrees that this year can start the countdown to reset any day now? My Mommy was wondering if we should join this year’s Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon that kicks off on Thursday. She finally made her mind up and yes, we will be joining in the Christmas cheer. |We even have a short list of books we hope to read this season.  It’s time for the Christmas Spirit. Who cares if it’s way to early. Who else is joining? South Africa has made international headlines once again, this time on the literacy front (for a welcome change). Lets start with the good news. And the sad news for the whole world, but especially for South Africans today, is the passing of Wilbur Smith. My Mommy wasn’t the biggest fan of his work, but Daddy has read a few of his books and loved it. That is an amazing accomplishment. I know a lot of South Africans who don’t know books and authors very well, but here, in his home country, Wilbur Smith is a household name.  May he rest in peace. I know we’ve been absent a lot lately, but the […]

Our first blogiversary!

Greetings you all! Pop the champagne, light the fire crackers, play the party music. It’s our very first blogiversary! Not that my Mommy remembered at all. She and Daddy is on a weekend away and if my babysitter didn’t notify her of the Facebook alert, she wouldn’t even have noticed the date. And that after all I’ve done for this blog over the last year… I do hope she will bring loads of presents with when they return home.  A lot has happened over the last 365 days and I can’t believe I’ve inspired my Mommy to write almost 200 posts on this blog. Unbelievable! I’m sure that many of you will understand how many hours we spend on the blog. I would be happy to just purr out new ideas and clever blogposts, but my Mommy loves playing around with the graphics and the headers and all the nitty gritty stuff. We started with the template to your right and if anybody was interested in my opinion, I would have stayed with it. The template was named Fluffy white kitten. Why would anybody think you can do better that? But no, my Mommy wanted a more ‘modern’ and updated […]

My Life in Books: 2020 Edition

My Life in Books: 2020 Edition

Greetings dear Humans! No, no – no need to get excited. This is not our wrap-up post for our books read in 2020. This is one of those strings you dangle in front of a cat and they simply can’t resist. Book Tags! Or I guess you can call this a book tag? Please correct me if I’m wrong. I might simply ignore you and walk away, but it’s always good to know. My Mommy first saw this fun post over at Books Please and saw that it travelled all the way from Annabookbel. Now tell me this doesn’t seem like a lot of fun to quickly do: Using only books you have read this year (2020), answer these prompts. Seeing that I’m a cat and I always follow the beat of my own paws, I will of course give a reason for my choice where I see it. So here is our    1. In High School I was The Sun Sister – Haven’t been to High School yet, but I can bet you that’s what they’ll call me. 2. People might be surprised by Something in the Water  3. I will never be Olive Kitteridge – My vet-book says I am Elza Thalwitzer. I’m quite happy with […]
