Weekend Book Friends #27

Greetings you guys! It’s Friday and my Mommy is officially on holidays! Whoo hoo! The fact that it’s only the second time this whole year that we get to our Weekend Posts, does give you an indication of how the term went. It wasn’t bad at all, just busy. Luckily we can now relax and just read a bit. So what will we read this weekend? This one might be a bit on the heavy side, but it’s a carry over from last month and we really want to read it. There will still be enough time for the lighter holiday reads. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to @ Reading is my Super Power for First Line Friday and to Gilion @ Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Songbirds open with a very short, but powerful chapter. One day, Nisha vanished and turned to gold. The turned to gold in the eyes of the creature that stood before me. She turned to gold in the […]

Library Card January 2022 & Weekend Book Friends #26

Greetings you guys! It’s January and all the humans that I know are full of new years resolutions and good intentions for 2022. My Mommy is no different. Not that she has any new resolutions, she just wants to make good on all her previous good intentions. Like sticking to our monthly Library Card. We might be paving our way to hell with all these good intentions, but perhaps by really putting some effort in, we might just end up on the straight and narrow. She has a brand new diary that she plans on using this year. Mostly to keep track of reading and blogging and my feeding schedule. Okay, maybe the last part is not quite necessary. She never forgets to feed me. Let’s see what are pavers are for this month: Book Club We had Book Club beginning of December and we will only have Book Club again in February. Mommy finished all her English books and now she’s left with only the Afrikaans books. The good thing about the Afrikaans books, is that she reads them quite quickly. I guess it is normally easier if it’s your mother tongue. I need to find a book with […]

Weekend Book Friends #25

Greetings you guys! Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends in America! May it be time of reflecting, giving thanks and stroking your cat. It’s very windy and rather cold here with us (no, we did not move. We are still in SA, the weather is just a bit like a teenager at the moment.) What else is there to do but stay indoors and read a good book? We are currently busy with an ARC for The History Quill Book Club and once again, what a brilliant read. Let’s share this thrilling mystery with our Weekend Book Friends.   For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings. We’ve also decided to join Carrie over @ Reading is my Super Power for First Line Friday.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. The Automobile Association opens with a prologue. We love prologues and going back to them when the book is finished to see how much it really gave away: He made his way through […]

Weekend Book Friends #24

Greetings Humans! First order of business today – it’s my adoption anniversary! Yea to me! And to Mommy for coming to my rescue from that horrible orphanage where we could never, ever get some more. No matter how nicely we asked. Oh, I’m such a Drama Queen. The pet shelter was actually lovely, but not a place any kitten would want to stay forever. My Mommy is at home today and I hope she will spend some time here on the blog, we’ve been a bit absent the last two weeks. The weather outside is however begging her to just take her book and go read. I am not going to complain about that. Snuggle time! My Mommy is very eager to start reading the following book later today: If you know my Mommy and read our blog regularly, you will know that this book might as well have been written for her. We are going to have a wonderful weekend! Let’s see who we can share it with: For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of […]

Weekend Book Friends #23

It’s Friday afternoon and Fraterfest 2021 is about to start here in our house. Yea! Yes, I know I am actually a real scaridy cat when it comes to spooky reads, but I will be okay if I can snuggle with my Mommy for the first one or two reads. After that, I will go and hide under the covers and leave my Mommy all alone for her scary reads. Our first pick for this year’s readathon, is a book my Mommy bought for the kids at school and it doesn’t seem scary at all. Just enough “hoo hoo” vibes to qualify for Fraterfest.  Of course we can’t start our weekend before we haven’t popped in with a few friends to share our weekend reads. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other. The trials of Morrigan Crow opens with the […]

Weekend Book Friends #22

Greetings you guys! It’s our last Friday before school starts again on Monday. I can’t believe our holidays are over… It feels as if we haven’t done anything but migrate from Blogger to WordPress. I guess most migration journeys does take some time and we are ever so happy in your new destination. Some unpacking and sorting still needs to be done, but we will get there. But not today. Today we will curl up with great book and just relax a bit. *Yea right. As soon as my Mommy press “publish”, she is going to find something else that she just quickly wants to tweak. Mark my words.  We are busy reading the most wonderful review book that we received from The History Quill Book Club. Think Cabaret, ‘Allo ‘Allo, Moulin Rouge ….  Yes, it really is as good as it sounds. Let’s share some snippets from this fabulous book by linking up with a few beloved Weekend Book Friends. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour […]

Weekend Book Friends #21

Greetings Humans! No, we didn’t disappear from the face of the earth this week, it was just one of those weeks where reality interfered with our reading and blogging life. Luckily it is Friday afternoon and we can finally escape into a book or two. I believe a complete escape from reality and a bit of tongue in the cheek humor, is exactly what we need for this weekend:   Tired of being teased about his name and his stutter, twelve-year-old Hobart sets out to do a few heroic deeds and earn a place in Knight School. But the local damsels he hopes to save assure him that the last thing they need is rescuing. The runaway bull he tries to catch wears him like a hat. And don’t even ask about the ogre. Finally, in desperation, Hobart sets out on the most daring quest he can think of–he will slay a dragon. Or that’s his plan anyway. The Legend of Hobart is a hilarious, heart-felt adventure, for the would-be hero in all of us.     This book sounds like the most fun a cat and a middle school child can have. It’s up for review from our side, […]

Weekend Book Friends #20

Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy is at home! Yea for me! It’s been terribly cold here across the country with snowfall in a number of places. Yes, we know that snow is nothing new to many of you, but for us, it sure is wow! Perfect weather to stay inside and just read a book. Besides the rather unpleasant weather, it’s not been the best of weeks at school either with parent meetings every day until late and load shedding and all other sorts of fun. I think my Mommy needs to read the following book this weekend:     Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets? A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time. Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library […]

Weekend Book Friends #19

Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy is at home! Yea for me! But she doesn’t look all that happy about it. One of my Mommy’s Teachers in the special needs section at school, tested positive for Covid and seeing that no-one at school is eligible for a vaccine yet, school is closed until Monday. I really don’t get why she’s upset about it. She can read, she can blog, she can cuddle with me. What’s the problem? But I understand that humans have very complex emotions and I’ll just sit here with a sweet and sympathetic look on my face. Yes, you do deserve a brand new book, Mommy. Yes, the wine and chocolates are also well deserved. This is her brand new book and she can’t wait to start reading it later today:   The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Huntress and The Alice Network returns with another heart-stopping World War II story of three female code breakers at Bletchley Park and the spy they must root out after the war is over. 1940. As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train […]

Weekend Book Friends #18

Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy isn’t working today. Therefore, we have time to do a Weekend Book Friends and spend the rest of the day reading and relaxing. Scrap that. She and Daddy is going to the big town a couple of miles away to go her some new ballet shoes. Crazy lady, I know. The book she’s currently reading is also a bit crazy, but gosh it’s sooooo good! I can’t wait for them to come back this afternoon so that we can finish this one! Don’t you just love the vintage cover?   #1 bestselling author Stephen King returns with a brand-new novel about the secrets we keep buried and the cost of unearthing them. The son of a struggling single mother, Jamie Conklin just wants an ordinary childhood. But Jamie is no ordinary child. Born with an unnatural ability his mom urges him to keep secret, Jamie can see what no one else can see and learn what no one else can learn. But the cost of using this ability is higher than Jamie can imagine – as he discovers when an NYPD detective draws him into the pursuit of a killer who has threatened […]
