With the help of her fellow librarians and her lawyer mom, Greta flips through the pages of the murder, uncovering details about Larkspur’s real estate market and the deceased’s rare book collection as she tries to understand why anyone would have authored his death.

With friends and neighbors stacking up as both victims and suspects, Greta must cross reference the facts and put a hold on her idyllic worldview if she wants to get the full story without paying the fine of her life.

Greetings you guys! 2022 has definitely been our year for cozy mysteries. This year, me and my Mommy have read close to 50 of them and how wonderful to end our year with such a brilliant cozy!

It ticked so many of the boxes we love in a book:

• A Library
• A Librarian
• An Idyllic little town
• Friendships that stood the test of time and boyfriends
• A moody broody detective
• A Cat
• An intriguing recluse
• A murder
• A clever sleuth
• Romantic suspense

 

We just knew we were going to love this book from the opening line: Larkspur Lane cut through the center of town like the spine of a storybook.

With one sentence and a few clever words put together, the reader is immediately drawn into the story and the tone is set. Now that’s what we consider note worthy writing. The rest of the book did not disappoint and we loved this first in a series set in the whimsical town of Larkspur, Wisconsin. Gosh, imagine you can be a librarian in such a setting…

Luckily our main character, Greta Plank, is an enduring character with just the right amount of curiosity and cleverness to easily become one of our latest favorite female sleuths. Greta is a librarian and librarians are often depicted as loners, but in this book, the friendship between the three librarians form an intriguing part of the plotline and paves the way for more books to follow in the series.

About the Author

Leah Dobrinska is the author of the Larkspur Library Mysteries, a cozy mystery series set in the Wisconsin Northwoods, and the Mapleton novels, a series of standalone small town romances. She earned her degree in English Literature from UW-Madison and has since worked as a freelance writer, editor, and content marketer. As a kid, she hoped to grow up to be either Nancy Drew or Elizabeth Bennet. Now, she fulfills that dream by writing mysteries and love stories. Death Checked Out is her debut cozy mystery.
