Greetings! It’s winter holidays in South Africa and I’ve had the two most marvelous weeks with two of my bestest friends in all the world. Sorry for the absence from the blogosphere, but my presence was on the beach spending time with near and dear ones and feeding my soul.
I did manage to get a bit of reading done and hope that I will be able to spend the next couple of days with my nose stuck in a book. The weather sure doesn’t permit one to do much else. Bit cold here you know…..
Recently Finished
Onse Vaders (Our Fathers): A couple of weeks ago, I’ve told you about the afrikaans novel Plaasmoord (Weeping Waters) by Karin Brynard. Excellent read for all South Africans and those who would like to know about farm attacks and violence in South Africa. Onse Vaders (Our Fathers) is even better. I might go so far as to say it’s a must read.
The Giving Tree: No, I haven’t read it before. It’s a short little story that stays with you for a long time. If not forever. And it should.
Currently Reading
Leaving Time: (Kindle) This book has been my Book Club selection for the past two months I still haven’t finished it! Started with it in all earnest on Saturday night and thankfully I’m sure I’ll have it finished in a couple of days. Leaving Time is one of those visual books. The pictures are vivid in my mind and I love the different narrators.
Sense and Sensibility:(Audio book) I don’t do romance. But the magic of Jane Austen can’t even escape a cynic like me.
Cross my heart, hope to read
As soon as I press publish now, I will pick up this one. I have to finish it this week! Next week will be Book Club and there is no way I will be able to sneak it back home.
What made it on and off your reading shelf this past week?

This post links up with It’s Monday! What are you reading? hosted by The Book Date.
I read and loved all of Shel Silverstein's poetry books as a kid (and I still have them on my bookshelf) but somehow I never did read "The Giving Tree." I should grab it at work one day!
Good luck with "Into the Water." I enjoyed it, but it's definitely different from "The Girl on the Train." I had a hard time with the first chunk because there were too many characters to keep straight, but eventually the story really picked up and sucked me in. It's more of a mystery than a thriller, which I actually liked because I've had a hard time with psychological thrillers lately.
So nice to have visiting time with friends. I like your graphic images. The Giving Tree is a wonderful book for children AND adults! Hope you enjoy all of your reading this week in a nice warm spot. 🙂
Great reading list! I love Jane Austen and I'm sure the audio book version of Sense and Sensibility would be very enjoyable.
Sounds like a lovely time away with friends. Into The Water is on my want to read list.
Dear cynic, love your postcard pics at the top celebrating your great time with friends, they sum up the precious time. I haven't read that Jodi Picoult but think I actually have it on my shelves sometime.
LOL!!! Thanks for stopping by Kathryn!
Howdy there! Ooh you got Into the Water? Let me know what you think! I like that cover better…
Glad you got some beach time!
Hallooo! That's the cover we have available in SA. Will keep you posted yes. I've started with it yesterday. It didn't grab my attention immediately like Girl on the train. But lets see where it ends!
I have a couple of reviews coming up in August as well. Guess I'll have to start…. Good for you!
Thanks for stopping by Kathy.
I have been working on August review books and now can dig into TBR mountain for a while. Sounds like you had a wonderful time with friends. Come see my week here. Happy reading!
