The Sunday Post #20

Posted November 29, 2020 by elzaread in Stacking the shelves, The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 42 Comments

Greetings you all! As you can see, our tree is up and it’s time to get jolly and and just say tra la la la la la la to everything that upsets you. Don’t you think I am the most beautiful Christmas decoration of them all?

How was your week? Our week was long and tedious. Mommy was in more than just a bit of a mood for most of the week, but she game home on Friday all smiles and determined to put the Christmas Tree up. We spend the whole day yesterday and I think it looks lovely! Perfect jungle gym for a 13 month old kitten.

Let’s talk books. I want to go and sit underneath the tree and see where I can start climbing and throw some (most) of those sparkly thingies off.

Adding to the Litter

Actually, I don’t really want to talk about all the new books. I had my Mommy down for a good talk to about her TBR shelf that surpassed the maximum amount of 500 books. You can read more about that in our Friday Fives post that will be added below. Friday was Black Friday and the only shop she wanted to go to was the Book Shop. I made her promise to buy only one (1) book. She obviously misunderstood that message and came home with 11 books. And then The Alice Network by Kate Quin, a book she wanted to read for ages,  was on special at Bookbub. I give up here.

Scratching the Blog Pole

This month hasn’t been a bad month for blogging at all. No idea how we did it, but we obviously have super powers stowed away somewhere. On Tuesday we did the Thanksgiving Top Ten Tuesday and what lovely posts everyone shared. I loved ours as well. On Wednesday we did a Wondrous Words Wednesday about the ruddy old chap who is coming to visit us one of these days. On Friday we did Friday Fives and shared 5 books my Mommy desperately need to read to keep her TBR under 500 books. What a waste a of a post! And yesterday we did a book review on The day I killed God. This one was a serious miss for us.
As always, click on the image if you’ve missed the post or just want to read it again!

On the couch

Currently Reading

Sirkus is available in English as well – Circus by Irma Venter. I think that is the book my Mommy will finish this afternoon while I prowl the tree. We made a nice big dent in The Night Tiger yesterday while putting up the tree, but still not done. Lovely read though. Q is for Quarry is for the Alphabet reading challenge and as the rest of the series,it’s a good read. The Aviator’s Wife is also worth the read, but we might only pick it up again next weekend or so.
Currently Watching
Still watching The Umbrella Academy, The Crown Season 4 and we’ve just finish the first season of Blacklist. Shocking ending! But we will still watch this series.
With the Christmas lights up and the tree still standing, Mommy felt like a Christmas movie last night. They watched Last Christmas. That was a gorgeous movie! Didn’t see the twist coming at all. My Mommy has always loved the song, now even more so.

Hanging by a thread

I’m bring in a new header topic this week. Bit of a discussion topic. Last week my Mommy was very upset with Amazon with their stupid $50 rule. Thanks for all the comments and tips! We got a few useful ones. Now if only we can figure out how to use them… Some of you suggested to review on BookBub. Sounds wonderful! But how exactly do you do that?
Once again, thanks for all the help!
Good luck with your upcoming week. Our week is going to be a bit rough, so you might not see as us much and I doubt we will manage a Sunday Post next week as my Mommy will be on staff-development course the whole weekend.
Enjoy your week and the Christmas cheer that is starting to pick up speed all across the globe. Please share your Sunday News with us and remember to link up and thank the following lovely ladies:

  1. Kitties make the best Christmas tree ornaments! I'm beginning to think having our tree up all year may have benefited us in the long run–the cats now tend to ignore it. LOL I still remember one year my cat Parker (whose no longer with us) climbed the tree and somehow got it spinning–there he was, hanging on for dear life, as the tree went round and round. Poor kitty! It was pretty funny though. He was also my cat who liked to climb in and sleep on the branches.

I hope you enjoy all the new books! There's no stopping a book lover when we set our mind on purchasing books. 🙂

I hope your week went better than expected. Take care!

  2. Good luck to the tree surviving

I was meant to go out and buy ours but the weather's been so nasty I keep putting it off
I relly enjoyed Yes Please, hope you like it!

    • Hi Dianthaa! I have read Yes, Please already. I just want to have my own copy on the shelf. Also loved it!

Hope you get to put up your Christmas tree real soon.

  3. I hope that you don't try to climb the tree, Elza. I had a cat named Princess that decided to do that in the middle of the night a while ago and it did not end well for the cat or the tree. Hey, there is nothing wrong with coming home from the bookstore with 11 books, especially on black Friday (I do it all the time!) Have a great week!

    • Thank you Carole, now I feel so much better. A few were early Christmas gifts, so I do feel happy that my book haul at least make other people happy as well.

Elza hasn't climbed the tree again since the day we put it up. Hopefully she also thinks it looks way to pretty!

    • HI there Lynn! Yes it is!! And luckily, she hasn't been climbing the tree since the day I put it up. Hopefully she also thinks it look pretty and respects it.

  4. Wow you already have your tree up & decorated, nice. You are on the ball! I liked The Alice Network all right – it was entertaining enough …. that I'd read her latest one if I can get my hands on it. I think I could use that Last Christmas movie about now … I need something goopy and nice. Enjoy your week.

    • Just put your Netflix on. Just about everything the advertise at this time is goopy and nice!

Looking forward to reading The Alice Network.

    • Although there are quite a few books ahead of The Alice Network on my TBR, I am so starting it as soon as I'm done with my current Kindle Read.

    • Hi AJ! I can just imagine! It was a bit of a mission to get it up, but low and behold, it's still standing and no cat had to be removed yet…

Good luck! Having a glass of wine around does help a bit.

  5. My friend is dreading putting up her Christmas tree as she has two cats and one puppy desperate to claw up the tree. I think cats make lovely baubles!

Eleven books instead of one, oops but hey they all look good!

I saw Last Christmas just before Christmas last year at the cinema and it was lovely but I didn’t see that ending coming, it was such a twist!

Hope your week goes well! Xx

    • Same here Heather, I didn't see that ending coming at all! How I LOVE that in movies and books.

So far, my tree is still standing and no cat caught in there. Yet.

Hope you had a good week!

  6. All these kitties in trees are making me miss my sweet calico cat! We had her while I was in high school and college. She loved to climb the tree and ride it as it fell to the ground. My dad finally started tying a rope around it and anchoring it to the wall somehow. We could only decorate the top 2/3 of the tree too because she would knock off ornaments that were any lower. Good times.

I review on BookBub as well. Make sure you're signed in to your account. Search a book title and then click on the book you're looking for. That takes you to the book page. On the right side of that page, toward the top, there's a button that says "Review." Click that and you're in! If you don't see it, let me know and I'll email a screen shot to you.

    Enjoy your week!

  7. Your tree is beautiful and so are you, Elza. Just be careful around it. I would have made the same mistake about buying books too. I wouldn't have understood just one 🙂
Hope you have a great week!

  8. ♬ TRA LA LA ♬ to everything that upsets me!

I can see that Mareli needs some helpful advice in regards to her TBR. Telling her to stop buying books? Hahaha. Absurd. Really. And she only came home with eleven books. I think that shows a great deal of restraint.

We hope to put up our tree today, too. There's something about seeing all those lovely Christmas things that makes me feel happy.

    Have a great week!

  9. Elza, you make a most beautiful decoration, but be good and leave that tree alone!? I plan to put up our tree next week and thankfully my cat Bonnie shows no interest in it! ? I am also seriously impressed with your mommy's book haul and she totally deserves it with that upcoming week of staff development. Take care both and happy reading! ?

  10. Our Christmas tree doesn’t go up until the kids finish school for the year which is December 16th, we just don’t have the room.
I’m jealous of your book haul..enjoy!

Wishing you a great reading week

    • Hi Shelleyrae! This is the earliest I've ever put my tree up. I just needed to do it and I'm glad I did. Our school closes officially on Wednesday, but I still have online classes until the 15th.

Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!

  11. Hey Elza!!! What are you doing in the tree though? Naughty naughty haha! I guess as long as you don't knock the whole thing over you'll be okay. 🙂

I love Christmas and I'm so glad it's here. I think we all need a little holiday peace to counter all the 2020 craziness! And nice book stack!!!

    Have a wonderful week!!!! 🙂

    • I feel exactly the same way Greg. This is the earliest I've put my tree up ever, but I just soooo needed it! Elza is good so far. I think she's still in awe at how beautiful it is. And I've put loads of decorations and tinsel on, she can't actually really get in there…. Will post photos as soon as I can!

  12. How great to have your Christmas decor up! I don't have a lot here, so it won't take long…I just have to pull out the under-the-bed storage units!

Enjoy your books and your week, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    • Hi Laurel-Rain! I just felt like the Christmas Spirit needs to be awakened and I think it works!

Three days of school left and by Saturday, it's holidays until mid January. Hallelujah!

  13. Glad to see you have your tree up – I'm sure that's going to make Elza's month:)). We tend to leave ours a lot later. I'm hoping the grandchildren will be able to visit to help us out with the decorating:)). As for getting hold of books at bargain prices – of course – that's the sensible thing to do! You can always cut down later in 2021… can't you?? That's what I always tell myself, anyhow:)). Have a lovely week, Mareli! Do you regularly review your books on Goodreads? They don't have all those rules and regs – authors are even allowed to review their own books, there!

    • Hi Sarah! I hope your grandchildren can come and visit you real soon to help with the decorations. I remember how much we loved it when we were young!

I've bought way too many books this year. Guess it was my idea of retail therapy or something! But most were bought on sales and some of Friday's big buys are going as presents. So not all bad…

I always review on Goodreads and I am very happy that they don't have any stupid rules or guidelines.

Now I just need to figure out BookBub, I actually didn't even know you could review on there.

Thanks for visiting us and have a wonderful week!

    • I'm only putting up the tree until we have a clearer indication of what is happening for Christmas.

Thanks for stopping by, I'm quickly hopping over.

  14. Wasn't it you that just told me on my blog that you wouldn't want to add to your TBR ? *looks like an angel* OK, that was 2 days ago, there were days before that and besides (hem) I have just ordered a book. Christmas tree/13 months old kitten ? Good luck ! I don't think I finished Sue Grafton's alphabet, I should get back to it. The aviator's wife looks good and The night tiger is appealing. Have a great week 😉

    • Oh yes, it definitely was me who promised that I am not adding any more books to my TBR!! I guess I should just lock myself up and get reading like crazy so that all the world can be in perfect harmony (of 500 TBR books) again… (Looking like an angel as well).

I bought all my Christmas Decorations from the cheapy cheapy cheap china shop last year. Elza was only about 8 weeks old and got tangled in the tree a couple of times. I bought a new tree this year, but still some cheapy decorations. So if the tree does go flat, at least it's no real harm done.

Have a good week and thanks for the visit!

  15. OH THAT KITTEN IN YOUR TREE. Love it. I'd love to have a little kitty cat but my BF is allergic.. So now I have 3 fishes, lol. Maybe we'll get a dog later on in our life 🙂
I hope your Christmas tree brought cheers and happy into your house, like it did mine!

    • A fish is soooo not a cat!! I feel for you… You are welcome to come and visit me any time you want!!

My Christmas tree is bringing lots of joy. And it's still standing in perfect order. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for your visit, have a good week!

  16. That sounds like you've had lots of fun decorating. I can't wait to start decorating our home too.
And Last Christmas is definitely a movie I'd like to see too this year. I never got to it last year, and forgot after Christmas.
    Stay safe and happy reading.

    • Hi Maureen! It really was fun to decorate and so far, the tree is being left in peace. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!
