The Sunday Post #23

Posted December 27, 2020 by elzaread in Stacking the shelves, The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 36 Comments

Greetings! It’s the Sunday after Christmas and the last one for 2020. Does anybody feel particularly nostalgic or like reminiscing the past year? We haven’t even done any planning for 2021 yet. My Mommy did receive a lovely new planner for 2021 and I guess maybe somewhere in the week she might start browsing through it and start to get excited for the new year that is just around the corner.

How was your Christmas? Our Christmas Eve was lovely and Christmas day was rather quiet and uneventful. I was a very good girl this year regarding the tree, but the presents under the tree did tempt me a bit. I managed to control myself very well and only halfway destroyed two presents.

We’ve had a lovely, warm summer Christmas and if I were any of the holiday makers who are still not allowed on the beaches, no Christmas present will make me feel better at all.

Talking about presents, did you get a few nice ones? My aunt send my Mommy a whole bag of new clothes as she is the world’s best shopper and my Mommy the worst. She is normally here with us for Christmas and then she and my Mommy will go do some shopping and Mommy’s sorted until the next year when my aunt comes to visit us again. Alas, this year it wasn’t possible. Mommy did receive some chocolates, lots of wine, vouchers and of course – books!

Stacking the Stocking

Yea!! Three of these were on her Christmas Wishlist and the Jo Nesbo one has been on the TBR forever and a Christmas day. So she is very excited for that one. Has any of you read Hogarth Shakespeare Series? It’s been on the back of my Mommy’s mind since it was launched in 2015, but she hasn’t read any of them. I know Hag-Seed by Margaret Atwood is also on the list, but we haven’t read that one either.
Mommy so loves her new books. Especially The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. She’s already read through it once and I strongly suspect it’s going to be one of her favorites of all time. Sure you will till hear about it for the next couple of weeks.
What did you get in you Christmas Stocking?

Scratching the Blog Pole

We only did two posts this week as we took a couple of days of no technology until today. We did our Christmas Wish List on Top Ten Tuesday and then we talked about the word Christmas. As always, click on the post headers below if you’ve missed our post.

On the Couch

Recently finished

We didn’t read as much as anticipated this week as Christmas preparations are hard work you know. And Mommy still falls asleep faster than a cat taking a nap on the couch. We read a very sweet holiday read and it was a light, but delightful palate cleanser.
Currently Reading

Same as last week and yes, we will be finished with all three by next week Friday!
Currently Watching

We’ve watched a couple of Christmassy movies this week. Netflix sure is giving Hallmark a go with all the Christmas Romance movies! But it’s good for the season. Last night we’ve watched Love Actually. My fist time, but Mommy and Daddy’s 20th (I’m sure it might be 20). It really is a lovely movie though and I will continue watching the next 20 times with them. That last scene at the airport, how lovely is that. Wonderful reflection of love that is actually truly all around us.
We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and that you will have a wonderful New Year! Curfew is 10:00 here with us, so I don’t know if we will see midnight. I will be locked-up early in any case, because those darn fire-works scare the living daylights out of me.
Remember to link up to all our lovely hosts, last week I completely forgot! Please forgive me dearest Debs, Kimberly and Marlene… I’ll be better in the new year!

Lots of Love,

  1. I love Love, Actually but we never watched it this year… 🙁

Glad you had a nice Christmas, even if it wasn't the usual kind of Christmas, and I hope you have a happy new year!

  2. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas. Chocolate, wine and books? Sounds perfect to me. The kitties did well this Christmas and were well behaved.

Hope you have a great week! Happy New Year!

    • Hi Yvonne! Glad to hear the kitties behaved themselves.
Christmas was lovely, now we are looking forward to the new year! The best is yet to come.

  3. I'm glad you received so many books from your wish list! And a bag of new clothes sounds wonderful!

Holidate looks cute! I wasn't very happy with the one Christmas book that I read.

Happy New Year! Enjoy your week!

    • Hi Jen! I planned on reading a few more Christmassy books, but it just didn't happen. So now I'm planning on all my new year reads. Like my Christmas presents!!

  4. "only halfway destroyed two presents" lol. Well at least you showed some restraint Elza! 🙂 Glad you had a nice Christmas!!!

Chocolates, wine, books… sounds pretty good. 🙂

I remember Love Actually! Haven't seen it in ages…!

Hope you have a happy New Year filled with cat treats!!!

    • Hi Greg! I am also rather proud of the little fluff ball. I bought her and the rest of the felines some new bowls today, so Christmas does finally arrive. The chocolates are define, the wine is red and it's way too hot here for red wine at the moment. Gin and Tonic or White Wine is the way to survive.

      Enjoy your week!

  5. Sounds like you had a nice and quiet Christmas. I also got The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. It was a gift from my mom with a really sweet note. I can't wait to read it.
I'm glad you enjoyed Holidate by Monica Murphy. I read that one too and definitely loved it.
Have a great week and happy reading!

    • Hi Maureen! The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is one of the most beautiful books I've ever seen. Inside and out.

Holidate was a nice palate cleanser for Christmas and I did enjoy it yes!

  6. Ooo chocolates and wine are great presents? I got a box of chocolates… and they were gone the next day! It sounds like you had a great holiday. ❤️ I hope you have a wonderful rest of 2020.

    • Hi Maya! I think it's better when they are all done by the next day. Now I eat a chocolate or two or three every day!!!

Hope you enjoy the last week of this very interesting year.

  7. Thank you, Elza and Mareli and I am very glad to hear you all had a lovely Christmas and loved your presents. ??❤ No books for me this year, however I had a lovely selection of woolly socks, favourite toiletries, chocolates, wine and nostalgic sweets/drinks.? I am afraid I am not looking back on 2020 with much nostalgi, but instead looking forward to bidding it goodbye! I pray you and yours a joyous and hopeful New Year! ?

    • Hi Jessica! Favorite toiletries are always such a nice present! I love receiving toiletries and I have a friend who are the same. I've made a nice gift basket for her and she loved it!

I'm not nostalgic at all this year. Think we will still look back at this year for years to come!

  8. I started reading a Midnight Library but I'm not sure if I like all the scenarios as much as I thought. Your holiday does sound wonderful and I'm sure your New Years will be just as great!

    • Hi there! I' sooo looking forward to The Midnight Library, will have to let you know if I was disappointed or liked it.

So far the holiday is good, this upcoming week I plan on doing nothing but reading and relaxing. Really need that now!

    • We had a lovely Christmas Eve with near and dear ones, so it was good yes! I'm very excited for all the new books and can't wait to get reading!

      Thanks for stopping by!

  9. I LOVED Daisy Jones and the Six. I couldn't put it down. Our Christmas was rather quiet as well. Eleanor and I came home to my mom's house. We didn't have our big family gathering at my grandparents' house of course, so it was very different this year. We did visit them yesterday for a couple hours; we wore masks and so did they, and stayed six feet apart. It lifted their spirits and Eleanor's, since Christmas was so different.

    • It sure was a different Christmas this year, but I'm sure we will all remember it for a long time to come.

I'm about 70% done with Daisy Jones, I don't think it will make my favorites list, but it is a kind of a decent read. Will update when I'm done with it!

  10. Your holidays sound wonderful. I hope you enjoy those books, which look really tempting. I am eyeing One By One, as I have loved the author's other books.

Happy New Year, and thanks for visiting my blog.

    • One by One is really good!! I am listening to it on audio and the one character irritates the living daylights out of me, the story is sooo good!

I am so looking forward to all my new books. 2021 is going to be good on the reading front. I'm convinced of that.

      Enjoy your week!

    • Glad the kitties enjoy their new toys. Mine didn't get anything…. The pet shop is in the mall and as it's way too crowded with all the holiday people who are not allowed on the beach, I didn't go there. As soon as all the holiday makers depart, I will go and get them some belated prezzies.

      Have a good week!

    • Hi AJ! My dogs are actually fine. My black cat is scared as well, but Elza is completely terrified. Poor little thing. I will lock her in early enough on Thursday.

Hope you will enjoy your last week of 2020. And then it's DONE!!

  11. Wow only two presents destroyed? Lovely. I am glad you had a good Christmas. You have to let us know how Daisy Jones was for you. I didn't love it myself, but I have heard only great reviews! Happy New Year!

    • Hi Gayathri! I'm around 70% done with Daisy Jones and it also doesn't blow my socks off, but it's still an acceptable read. I've heard that you need to listen to it on audiobook. I might look into it if I'm done.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will have a wonderful week!

  12. We really went overboard on Love Actually this year. I think it's seeing all the human connections that we have missed so much during 2020. We watched the movie, and then watched a video of a fellow telling us 50 facts about it…and then watched the short sequel made as a fundraiser for Red Nose Day. Love Actually. So lovely.

Your sister sounds exactly like my sister. My sister has saved me, clothes-shopping-wise, than anyone will ever know.

Clothes, wine, books? Santa did well.

I enjoyed Boy, Fox, Horse, and I thought Midnight Library was fabulous. I hope you do, too. The main character starts out the story in a very bad place; that part is very bleak. But the whole story left me with a lot to think about in terms of life, and I love stories that do that.

    Happy holidays, Mareli and Elza!

    • I also love that human connection elements in Love Actually. It's one of my husband's favorite movies ever. Timeless.

I miss my sister this Christmas and I haven't even send her gift yet! I'm knitting her a muffler and it takes forever as it's with mohair and it's difficult to knit with.

I love love love The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse. Think I'll read it over and over every now and then.

Looking forward to The Midnight Library, but will leave it for the new year.

      Have a good week!

  13. Only two halfway destroyed present, I marvel at your restraint ^^ I haven't read the Hogwarth series yet, but it also has been on my radar for some time. Your mommy received some droolworthy bookish presents, without mentionning the chocolates and wine ^^ We haven't celebrated here yet, it will be tomorrow, with my daughters and my eldest daughter's boyfriend – we wanted to be together, so my boyfriend and I celebrated very quietly. So quietly the cats were sleeping soundly. Have a great week and let's get rid of 2020 !

    • Wow, you are good with anticipation! I would never be able to hold out on Christmas for 3 days! Although my sister hasn't received her present yet. I'm knitting her a muffler and I'm not done yet. But will have to get my butt in gear and get it send out.

Yes, 2020 can be put to rest now.

      Have a wonderful week!
