The Sunday Post #30

Posted February 21, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 36 Comments

Greetings you all! How are you? Did you have a good week? I’ve decided to just accept my fate of being a poor, abandoned kitty for most of my weeks. Life is not going to change much for my Mommy at this stage. School is busy and her days are long. I do try my best to make sure she doesn’t forget completely about me by catching and releasing the odd grasshopper in the house, or chasing imaginary mice around the bedroom @ 03:00 in the morning. Oh and losing my collar. That was the most fun.

The world outside our window shows lovely summer weather with a couple of rain showers, but not enough to ease the ongoing drought. Hence all the grasshoppers. Did I mention that my Mommy hates grasshoppers? The Covid numbers are just about 0 in our little town for over a week now, but there’s already talk of the 3rd Wave that will hit Africa if we can’t get a workable vaccine soon. As you know, all the AstroZeneca vaccines that arrived on our shores, had to be send back as it was completely useless against the strain that spread through Africa. Let’s hold thumbs that the Johnson & Johnson vaccine proof to be more effective than their no-more-tears shampoo.

My Mommy didn’t buy any new books and she also didn’t request any. There are way too many books here for her to get through first.

Scratching the Blog Pole

We did manage to get three posts published on the blog this week and all three were loads of fun. On Wednesday we did our biweekly Wondrous Words Wednesday and on Friday Mommy came home early in time for us to do a Weekend Book Friends. Our featured book was The Thursday Murder Club and we are just about done with it.

Yesterday I did I Classics Club post on my favorite Classic Character. That was the most fun of all. The pictures below link directly to the various posts if you missed it.

Mommy saw a blog post over at At starts at Midnight on The 100 and it really sparked her interest. Mommy and Daddy watched the first one and they mainly spend the whole episode discussing Lost. Now that was a brilliant series. But we’ll try at least one more episode of The 100 before me make a final verdict.
And that’s it from us this week. I do hope that your week was more eventful than ours. If you want to babysit a fluffy white kitten during the long hours my Mommy spend at work, let me know. I’m sure we can come to some sort of an arrangement.
Maybe one of our hosts will be interested!

  1. I hope they find a vaccine that will be effective against the African strain. I hope the numbers stay down in your part of the world.

I really want to read The Thursday Murder Club. I hope you are enjoying it!

It took me awhile to get into The 100, but I enjoy it. I have to take breaks from in now and then. It can get fairly violent.

I hope you have a great weekend!

    • Hi there! Haven't tried The 100 again, will see how the upcoming week looks. I haven't even switched to tv on this passed week!

The Thursday Murder Club was highly enjoyable and I will recommend it to just about everyone.

  2. My hubby just got the Astra Zeneca vaccine two weeks ago, it worries me all the different strains, it must be annoying for the scientists to have created a vaccine for another variant to appear. Hopefully between all the vaccines doing the rounds they can bring our world back to a state of normalcy.

  3. We have tons of grasshoppers here too! They’re all under the snow right now. They take over the sidewalks in the summer. When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike through them and feel them bouncing off my legs. It was so gross! I hope a working vaccine gets to you quickly. Have a good week!

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    • Hi AJ! I remember when I was a child, we once had one of those real Biblical grasshopper plagues where the sky turned black with all of them. I still have nightmares!

The vaccine is being rolled out this week, so hopefully it will be effective and life can start moving on again.

  4. It can be good to be busy. But hope you can get a little more time with cute Elza! I haven't read Keeper of Lost Causes but I did see the movie it's based on and I really enjoyed it. Glad you were able to get a few fun things in this week.

I sure hope the Johnson and Johnson vaccine works for you all over there! Stay safe!

    • Hi Heather! There's movie about The Keeper of lost causes???!!!!! Weeeeee!! I am going to see if I can get it. It was a wonderful read, kept me on the edge of my seat. Love books like that.

Past week wasn't much better, but at least we are still staying positive and doing what we can!

  5. The Astra Zeneca is what our government is supplying for those of us who do not fall into a risk category, while those that are at high risk are getting the Phizer vaccination. I’m curious about what the ineffectiveness of the AZ against the African strain might mean here.
I think I stopped watching The 100 about Season 4, but I did like it.

Wishing you a great reading week, and less grasshoppers

    • Hi there Shelleyrae! That's a really interesting question! I have no idea why it was ineffective, I just know that my family doctor told me that it's completely useless with the African strain and then I saw everything was send back. You win some, you lose some.

My husband is away this week, so I guess we'll only try The 100 again next week.

You must also have a good reading week!

    • Hi there Mae! Funny enough, that's the saying in my library at school above the entrance! You just gave me an idea. I think I must make a post on the library….

  6. Grasshoppers! Sorry to hear your mom is super busy though. I'm sorry too to hear about the drought and the Covid situation. IO had to laugh about no- more- tears though. 🙂

The 100 is fun and I just got done playing a Bookish Games game based on the show. shannon is the co- moderator this time around as she's quite the fan haha! It's been fun, the Bookish Games are a version of the mafia social game that people play, not sure if you're familiar with it, I wasn't until the last couple years. the things that blogging leads to!

Hope you have a nice week!!!

    • Hi Greg! I will have to look into this Bookish Games. I saw it on your blog and it does sound like quite a bit of fun! No idea about the mafia social game…

Elza is playing the couldn't be cuter card today, but it's because I've been at home the whole weekend and she got lots of attention. So hopefully no grasshoppers. Yes, we desperately need rain. But that's Africa for you.

  7. First time visitor. I love the writing from the cat's perspective. These books are new to me, so I am excited to look them all up. Thank you for sharing. Have a good week.

    • Hi there Steph and welcome to Elza Reads! So glad you are enjoying our little silly blog. So do we…!

You are very welcome to stop by whenever you want.

  8. sorry to hear about the vaccine, but great to hear the numbers. 0 wow. here in the florida panhandle…well…they just don't care about safety. but, i am due for my second dose of the vaccine this week so that is a relief. now it's getting mr wonderful done. because i am older i got it first and he has had to wait
    sherry @ fundinmental

    • Hi there Sherry! I'm so glad you guys can get the vaccines. Every one that gets vaccinated is a person saved.

Have a good week and I hope you won't have any nasty side effects.

  9. That's great about the Covid numbers in your town but terrible about the vaccines. I hope they figure something out soon.

I love the Flummox pic. Perfect!

Hope you have a great week.

    • Hi Yvonne! Yes, we can just continue hoping and praying for a solution as soon as possible.

You should join us for Wondrous Words Wednesday some time!

  10. You need water ? Come here, we have plenty ! The rivers are not overflowing but close and some fields look like ponds (but I've seen worse : lakes). Let's hope the rather warm days to come will evaporate all this. I see you're in a murderous mood and getting more informations on the subject, so I'll wish you a good reading week, more grasshoppers and an efficient vaccine soon. Have a zen week – no more chasing imaginary mice at undue hours !

    • HI IzaBzh! Today she is constantly trying to pull the look-at-me-I'm-so-cute look and it works. It always does! No waking up in the wee hours and no grasshoppers in the house when I came back from school.

We hope it will stay like that for the week! Have a wonderful week.

  11. So sorry you are feeling a bit abandoned right now, Elza – though perhaps it might be an idea to ease up on catching those grasshoppers in the wee small hours… In the meantime, I hope the low numbers keep on being a thing… And that one of the other vaccines prove to be effective against the South African strain. Have a good week:))

    • Hi Sarah! Loved your comment, feel like I need to read it to Elza out loud.

We are also hoping and praying that the numbers will stay as low as possible until we can have a workable vaccine before the 3rd wave hits us.

      Have a wonderful week!

  12. Oh my. What a sad thing to have to return the vaccines. But your country has done a great job of keeping the virus in check there. Yes, let's definitely hope the J&J vaccine works better than it's no more tears shampoo. Lol.

We haven't seen The 100, and we are in search of our next show, so we may take a look.

I completely missed your Classics Club post, so I think I need to head over there and check it out.

Please don't work too hard. Send Elza over here, if she gets bored there. The weather, post-anomalous-terrible-winter-storm, is ideal here in Texas.

    • Hi Debs! Oh I can promise you Elza would love to go and visit you and cuddle on your lap while you read. And she'll hang around the kitchen while you bake those fabulous pies too. She eats just about anything.

I think The 100 might be more for a bit younger generation, but we'll give it at least one more go before we decide to call it quits.

We are thinking of you and that terrible storm. Please stay safe and take care of yourself.

    • Hi Gayathri! Unfortunately it's not the case in the whole country. Some parts still have very high numbers with poor discipline. But let's hold thumbs for the new J&J one!

  13. Adler-Olsen is one of my favorite Sandinavian thriller writers. I've read all the books in the series so far. Happy reading week!

    • Hi there Harvee! I thoroughly enjoy The Keeper of Lost Causes and I'm sure I'll most probably end up reading the rest of the series as well.

Hope you will have a good week.
