The Sunday Post #34

Posted April 11, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 29 Comments

Greetings all you wonderful humans! My Mommy’s holiday is coming to an end today and tomorrow she will be back at school. Can’t believe 3 weeks went by so fast. She had all these plans at home and for the blog and in the end:

Yes, I know, I know. I think maybe she spends too much time with me and she is slowly turning into a cat. Sleep al day, demand to be fed, only cuddle when she feels like it, don’t see anything through or stick to the rules, but still manages to be adorable and highly likeable.
We are not going to stick to the normal template for The Sunday Post today. We need to do an update on our various reading challenges for this year and if we don’t do it today, it might not happen until Christmas.
According to Goodreads, we are at least on track with our 2021 Reading Challenges. Let’s see what the progress is with the different challenges:
Africa

2. South Africa (Province – Free State. Town – Senekal) – Kanaän deur Sophia Kapp
3. South Africa (Province – Free State) – Droomvanger deur Chanette Paul

Australia

Denmark

England

8. Kingsbridge (Fictional Town in the 12th Century) – The Evening and the Morning by Ken Follet
9. London (Regency England) – The Duke and I by Julia Quinn
10. London (Regency England) – The Viscount who loved me by Julia Quinn
11. London (Regency England) – An Offer from a Gentleman by Julia Quinn

Ireland

13. West Coast of Ireland – The Guest List by Lucy Foley

New Zealand

14. (I believe Cape Discovery is a fictional town, so no clue where to map it) – Knitted and Knifed by Tracey Drew

Sweden

15. (Borg is also a fictional town, no clue where) – Britt-Marie was here by Fredrik Backman

United States of America

16. New York – Tell No One by Harlan Coben
17. Texas / California – The Four Winds by Kristen Hannah

I wonder if my Mommy has realized that she reads so many books set in England. No, we do not live in England. We’ve actually never been there!

We are currently reading The Curious Case of Florence Winters by May Bridges and we hope to be done with it before sunset.
We are watching the Netflix adaptation of Behind her Eyes and it’s soooo good. If you’ve read the book, you will notice the producers really did a fantastic job with this. Freaky yes, but still plausible enough.
We hope you are all doing well and that your reading challenges for the year is up to date! May you all have a wonderful week and I do hope you have more to tell our lovely hosts, Deb @ ReaderBuzz and Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer.
Lots of Love,

  1. Glad you're back online. I checked back several times to see if you'd posted something, but figured you've been busy with offline stuff.

Glad to see also that the worldly challenge is working out well. For myself, I've discovered that as soon as I sign up for a challenge, the pressure to finish it IMMEDIATELY mounts up, and then… I just end up giving up! LOLs. I'm wondering how 2021 will progress in terms of reading goals. Hope you manage to find a pace that sticks.

  2. That's funny, I've been thinking about challenges all this month and a part of last month and am wondering if I'll stick to them or read according to my fancy ?… There are so many rules we have to live by that I think I need some freedom somewhere… But I chose those challenges because I was interested , maybe I just don't like pressure. Well, anyway, you've been doing really great with yours. Sorry the holidays are over, take care 🙂

  3. Living like a cat sounds pretty nice – especially with the sleep! I hope you are feeling relaxed and refreshed after your break! Great job on your challenges. I read so many books set in England and Ireland that it's kind of ridiculous – especially since I've never been to either place. I did do the Ancestry DNA tests on both my parents and one was mostly Irish and the other was mostly English so I guess I'm getting back to my roots. Have a great week!

  4. We had spring break this last week and we didn't get a lot done either. But just enough. No need to feel guilty! Sometimes doing nothing is just what we need.

Looks like you are reading some great books around the world!

I just finished up Behind Her Eyes! So entertaining. Disturbing but really well done.

    Enjoy your week!

    • Hi Yvonne! I am enjoying the challenges, but think I can actually do a bit better with travel to different places and not getting stuck in the same places all the time.

  5. 3 weeks goes fast when you're on break! I think a cat's life sounds pretty good, BTW…

I love the look of your challenges. I enjoy reading about other places, maybe I should so some of those…

I think I need to check out that show!

    • Hi Greg! I'm a week behind with comments! How horrible.
I think you will enjoy Behind her eyes, but maybe try to read the book first.

I am actually quite chuffed with the progress on the challenges, just need to pay a bit more attention to my Afrikaans challenge as well!

  6. Uh oh sorry your holiday is ending. It must have been a nice three week break. It's great you are reading books from all these different countries. You are getting many good perspectives. Have a good week.

    • The first week back at school felt like a year! But it was good! Not as much reading done as I would have liked, but it will get better again. I love my Around the World in Eighty Books challenge. It's great fun!

  7. It always seems like when you have time coming up things happen and you never get your list done! There's always so much going on and you don't get all that you planned to! It's okay though!

Good luck on your challenges!! I should check out how I'm doing on mine! Have a lovely week! <3

    • I really am one of those people who can do more, the more I have to do! If I don't really have that much on my plate, I tend to just vegs.

I enjoy taking part in the challenges, I don't always stick to it as much as should, but it does keep me grounded in a certain sense!

    • Hi Helen! I am enjoying it so far. But I think I could have done better with the 'travelling' to 80 different places. I tend to get stuck in certain places.

    • What is it about England! But the books are just great from there. I am having fun with my Around the world in Eighty Books challenge.

  8. Yes, enjoy it. I know I'm putting away for retirement. but I barely have enough to last a year. I need to put it all into action. I hope you get to go a lot more fun places.

    • Hi Trin! This was seriously the holiday that I've done the least. I think my biggest feat was finish the Evening and the Morning. LOL!!

      Have a good week!

    • Hi there Shelley Rae! They do in deed… I'm just glad that I'm at least still on track. 80 books is the highest challenge I've ever tried to reach. So far so good.

  9. I love the idea of your Mommy turning into a cat, Elza. Is this when you enter a magical pact with her and turn into a human being?? Just asking… I'll write the story if you like:)). Have a lovely week, despite being back at work.

    • Hi there Sarah! What a really, really awesome idea for a book. You are ever so welcome to write the story. We will be honored!

Thanks Sarah, I am fortunate enough to do love my work. So excited for school tomorrow!

  10. I remember well the days when I'd eagerly plan for my big holidays…stacks of books set aside for reading and big plans for writing and baking and all the other things I love to do…and then the holidays would come…and I'd do nothing…

    Gosh, it was so pleasant.

Enjoy it while you can. My dad, 94, who has now been retired longer than he worked, warned me that THERE ARE NO VACATIONS WHEN YOU RETIRE. And it's true. While you got to enjoy three delightful weeks of vacation, I, retired, got nothing. Very sad.

There are worse things to do than to turn into a cat. Quite a lovely thought, really. Perhaps I shall do that, too.

When I started mapping my reading, I learned that large numbers of my books tend to be set in the same few locations…England…France…Japan…India. It's the rare book that comes in from Andorra or Bolivia. But it's always a treat when it does.

    • That is very true Debbie! I am normally good with doing a lot of fun things during the holidays, but this holiday went by in the wink of an eye and I actually had so much work stuff that still kept me busy.

Yes, I don't think it will be bad to be a cat. Especially not an Elza. Getting spoiled rotten on top of all the above mentioned characterizations!

I have actually never realized how much books I read set in England. It's not intentional at all. I did plan on trying 80 books all from different locations. As you can see, not very successful with that one!

Hope you will have a good week ahead.
