The Sunday Post #45

Posted August 8, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 34 Comments

Greetings all you lovely Humans! How are you all doing? It’s a beautiful sunny winters day here in SA and we only got out of bed about 10 minutes ago (it’s now 11:30 local SA time). Such bliss.

After the horror that was July in our beautiful country, we are very relieved and happy to see the August winds blowing in some gold medals and victory. Let’s hope all those people who looted the flat screen TV’s in July, at least put their lootings to good use and cheered our South African heroes. Hopefully they will be inspired to rather smash world records in future than property that does not belong to them.

What’s new in your lives? We didn’t acquire any new books over the last two weeks, so no adding to the litter section today. My Mommy is busy sorting out her Kindle and TBR pile on Goodreads and it does feel good to have a clearer view on the books on our shelves. Let’s hope we can keep it like that!

Scratching the Blog Pole

We haven’t been all that active on the blogosphere over the last two weeks and I’m running out of excuses here. The long and the short is that life keeps on getting in the way. I am sure many of you are in similar boats on a rather stormy sea at the moment. Let’s recap what we did manage to post:

On the Couch

Currently Reading

Currently Watching

I’ve never heard my Mommy laugh so much as with The Nanny. Why aren’t there shows like that anymore? The Courier was a brilliant movie, bit on the heavy side yes, but worth the watch for sure.
What have you been reading or watching lately?
Have a wonderful week ahead and remember to leave your links with our lovely hosts.

Lots of Love,

  1. Nanny was one of my favorite shows growing up (although the MC sometimes came across as annoying, shh!). You're right, why don't they make shows like that anymore? I also recall I dream of Jeannie, Bewitched and Who's the Boss — those were pretty good too! I like the sound of Courier, will check that out.

  2. I liked The Courier, that was dramaric and I love a true story. Great selection of books, I liked The Alice Network very much and her latest Rose Code is good as well.

    • Hi there Shelley! Thanks for the well wishes…. It will take some time to recover from all the repercussions, but we can do it!

My week was quite good so far, I hope yours were too!

  3. I am glad things have settled down for you all in SA now. I know my in-laws are relieved although they are still sticking close to home!

    • I'm in the Eastern Cape, so we were spared all the looting and riots. But we still feel the repercussions of the events. Petrol and Diesel are through the roof and the next thing to spike is food prices. So absolutely no one won here….

Glad your in-laws are also okay!

  4. Carrie Fisher was an amazing writer, I hope you enjoy 'Postcards from the Edge'! And I heard about the riots and looting from my SA friends, it honestly sounded quite scary so I hope you're all ok! I've also missed most of the Olympics this year but I've enjoyed seeing some highlights here and there! I hope you have a lovely week 🙂

    • Thanks for the visit Juli! We are all okay here and I do hope that the repercussions of the riots and the looting will stabilize quickly as well.

Hope you had a good week too!

  5. I completely missed the Olympics but did see something mentioning the South African wins and thought of you! I have to read The Sun Sister and then I will be able to pick up The Missing Sister and I can't wait! Have a wonderful week!

    • Hi Katherine! I also didn't watch anything live! Just caught the catch ups on my cellphone. But yea! Still very chuffed.

I'm not even halfway with The Missing Sister yet, but it's good yes. Please let me know what you think about The Sun Sister. It was my favourite one. And then The Storm Sister.

    • The Olympics are always inspiring to watch and it's very good for morale if one's own country wins a few medals!

The courier is good yes, but definitely not light entertainment.

  6. I LOVE The Nanny! I even have a talking nanny doll. I agree, they don't make shows like that anymore. She has written some good books too. XO

    • Yea to The Nanny! The only thing that show needed, was a cat. ?
I've never read anything by her, let me take a look.
Hope you will have a good week!

  7. Sleeping in is the best. 🙂 And yay for SA athletes- I've been enjoying them doing well at the Olympics!

    • I did the exact same thing today again and I really feel quite rested for the first time in weeks. Glad you are enjoying the Olympics!

  8. I used to love The Nanny. I haven't seen it in years. I should re-watch it. The Missing Sister looks really good. I hope you have a great week!

    • I also haven't seen The Nanny since I've been at school and that is 20 odd years ago.

I am enjoying The Seven Sisters a lot yes!

  9. I was so disappointed to see the looting that went on in SA during July. Congratulations to your SA athletes who did so well in the Olympics.

I've been off in a mini-vacation in Central Texas last week, so my blogging and reading have suffered.

I'd like to hear more about the Ice Swan.

    • I've seen you've been on a mini vacation! So glad you have enjoyed it and so what if reading and blogging suffered a bit. It's still all here when you came home!

I am very relieved that things are more peaceful at home now. Although the repercussions are already showing. The price of petrol and diesel is through the roof and food spikes will be next in line.

At least we are safe and healthy. So no complaints from us!

  10. I am pleased to hear that recent troubles for you have now passed ? and that you have been enjoying success in the Olympics, although lets not talk about the Lions Series! ? I have not long got back off my holidays and I am currently reading the gripping historical-fiction A Tapestry of Treason by Anne O'Brien, but haven't really got back into my viewing, yet! Take care and happy reading in the coming week. ?

    • I'm glad to hear you had a good holiday! Don't rush too hard getting back in the swing of things, it sometimes tend to ruin all the fun.
I haven't read anything by Anne O'Brien, but I have heard good things. Will take a look.?

  11. My yoga instructor and I were having a book conversation and she was telling me how much she loved how Lucinda Riley writes. I've only read one of her books but, see you are reading one of hers as well. I'm curious about The Ice Swan as well. Have a good week.

    • I'm not the world's biggest Lucinda Riley fan, but when it comes to the Seven Sisters series – I'm a big advocate for sure! It's gorgeous series and I've enjoyed all of them so far.

The Ice Swan is good so far, I think I'm going to enjoy it for sure.

  12. Yes we also liked The Courier movie. Cumberbatch is always good eh? Lately we've been watching the Olympics … some great athletic performances! Congrats to SA in its victories. Schoenmaker was really amazing in her races. World Record in the breast stroke, wow! Then the Alaskan swimmer Lydia Jacoby also had good victory in the breast stroke too. It's not an easy stroke! Enjoy your week. & I hope for calmer days in SA …

    • Yes! He is definitely one very versatile actor and I always enjoy his movies. Tatjana Schoenmaker is a lovely person and I am so glad for her and her victory. Swimming is beautiful to watch!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will also have a fabulous week.
