The Sunday Post #5

Posted July 26, 2020 by elzaread in Stacking the shelves, The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 28 Comments

Hooray, hooray! I couldn’t be happier today. Even if you offered me my very own packet of perky pink salmon. Do you SEEEEEE our template?? This was the template my Mommy chose originally when she started blogging again, about a month or so ago. Obviously I nudged a bit. The template is called “fluffy white kitten”, it couldn’t be more perfect if I invented, drafted, designed it myself. BUT, we couldn’t get it to work. Mommy couldn’t add any of the add-on’s and there were no option for comments. And that just won’t work for us. We love to chat!

Yesterday morning, she was playing around on the blog and saw the blogger update. I just looked at her with my big green eyes and tried my best to get the message through to her little brain. “Load the fluffy kitten template, Mareli. Come on – come on – come on, you can do it….”
And guess what?? She did! And it works!! So what do you think? Mommy also finally managed to import all the posts from her previous blog, she really was on a roll here!
How was your week? We had a lovely week! The weather was more autumn than winter, so I played outside the whole day while Mommy was at work. She went to school every day this week and it  made me smile to see her so energized and happy again. My Mommy is one of those wonderfully weird people who gets energized by kids. How crazy. If anyone smaller than my mommy walks through our front door, I go and find a hiding spot faster than you can say perky pink salmon.

But then on Thursday evening, we got quite the scare. The president of our lovely country here on the southern part of Africa, announced that all schools will be closed until the 24th of Augustus, seeing that we are in the eye of the Corona Virus storm at the moment. You should know, love, and understand Africa to get why closing public schools is a necessity in times like this. Luckily for Mommy, all private schools and educational franchises that can comply and adhere to safety protocols, are allowed to remain open. So back to school again on Monday! I’ve been to school once, but apparently I am too much of a distraction to be allowed going again. I really don’t understand that.

But let’s get on with our post!

Adding to the litter

For the first time in weeks, we are able to join up with Stacking the shelves, hosted by Tynga’s Reviews. Mommy bought some books!

My mommy is a real sucker for a pretty face. I know, like me. Just look at the pretty covers for Liar Liar by L.A. Cotton and Slade House by David Mitchell. I do hope that the books will proof to be as pretty. The two Donato Carrisi books, she bought at a book sale. If you are a fan of his books, please give us a shout out! Mommy did read The Vanished ones, so now she can showcase it on her bookshelf. The Girl in the Fog she hasn’t read yet, but she she must first finish her reading challenge. I’m keeping a close eye on her. Tin Men was on the daily deals of BookBub. You win some, you lose some there. Let’s hope this one is a win.

Scratching the blog pole

Not much happened this week, except for working and playing in the garden. Mommy finished and reviewed Bear Town and only managed one weekly feature, Weekend Book Friends. Click on the image to see the original posts.

On the couch

Reading

Just about done with Shelter in Place, so it will most probably not be on this list next week. Devil at my heels is a thought provoking book. Will most probably still be here next week. Faithful, I don’t know yet. But I am faithful that I will enjoy it. Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is excellent, but gosh it’s long. I think I’ll try to watch one or two episodes of the adapted series and then decide if we will finish reading it.
Watching

The nice thing about being back at school, is that so many other things return to normal again as well.  Mommy and Daddy are watching TV every night. I love snuggling up between them on the couch. Daddy doesn’t watch Ozark with Mommy, I think he’s missing out big time. We’ve watched the last episode of Dead to Me season 2. I liked the first season more.

Let it go

Staying true to my name, it’s time to let something go again. This past week, I’ve realized that even though the world is in a dreadful, horrible period in human history, life still goes one. The same nitty gritty things that made our lives “normal” six months ago, still make our lives normal. Let go of waiting for life to return to normal. It might never return to the normal you were used to. And that’s okay. Just let go of waiting. Time waits for no-one. Except for these guys:
Hope you will all have a wonderful week and say “hello my love” to all your near and dear ones.
Remember to hop over to Caffeinated Book Reviewer and to ReaderBuzz to share your news. Or just to say hello to all of us.
Lots of love,
Elza

  1. Hi Greg, mine update automatically. But I am very happy with it! I haven't seen anything that bothers me. Hope it stays that way. What am I going to do if my template don't work again? Devastation…!

Hope you will have a really good week!

  2. Hi Stacy, that's very true. We still need to make the best of everyday.

Thanks for your visit, hope you will have a good week!

  3. Hi SHell, thanks for returning the favor! Bear Town is not the easiest topic, but it is a rather easy read. Love Beckman's writing style. Give it a try!

  4. Hi Ann! I hate playing around with templates and don't even get me started on HTML codes. But I am soooo glad that I did it. I play once and now it will stay like this for a long time. I hope!

    Have a good week!

  5. Hi Heather! Thanks so much! Scary thought, I've listened to Westlife in my early 20's, now I listen to them in my early 40's again.

Hope your week will be good as well!

  6. Congrats on the blog template! It looks great! And your books look good. I'm hoping the Blogger update doesn't give me too much trouble when it happens. Crossing my fingers. 🙂

    Hope school goes well!!!

  7. Love the template and the cover of Slade House 🙂 You are right about not waiting. I don't think the future is going to look like before so just appreciating where we are right now, scariness and all, is important for our well being.
Good luck with school, hopefully you all will be able to stay corona free.

  8. I keep seeing Bear Town. It's too hard-hitting for my tastes, but I'm kind of curious nonetheless.

Hope you enjoy all your new books. Thanks for visiting Shell's Stories.

  9. Hi Yvonne, thank you so much! I've been purring the whole day about it. Glad you also enjoy the shows.

Hope you will have a good week!

  10. Hi Deb! Yea, so glad you like it! Everything, everywhere is a complete mess at this stage. But we keep on trying our best.

Love the saying about kids are Zen masters. Sounds true to me!

Hope you will have a good week.

  11. I love the template. Your blog looks beautiful!

I enjoy The Blacklist, Dead to Me and Ozark. All good shows.

I hope you have a great week!

  12. My state is an odd mix of a push for normality tempered with a huge voice for caution. It's a crazy mess right now, but we have managed to get the education agency to set aside the rule to send kids and teachers back in person for a few more weeks.

Love this template. It's exactly the colors and mood I love. So glad that it finally worked.

I always get recharged around kids (and cats, for that matter). Someone told me once that kids are like little Zen masters and I think that's true.

Have a good week and take care.

  13. Hi there Sarah! Aaaaah thanks so much! It is nice to play on a template that you really really enjoy.

Hope you are well otherwise and may you also have a great week.

  14. Hi Lauren_Rain! Thanks so much for the compliment! we do try our best here.

Shelter in place is about a mass shooting. Epidemic of a different sort I guess.

    Thanks for returning the favor!

  15. Thanks Nicky, I do enjoy the audio recording and the tv series of Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell. Will leave it on the nightstand for a while.

    Thanks for stopping by!

  16. The new template is lovely – you must be so chuffed to have got it loaded and working:)). And I'm glad you are still able to keep going to school. I very much hope you have a peaceful, healthy week.

  17. And here in the U.S.,with rising numbers of cases, hospitalizations and death, people are pushing for schools to open to in person classes. I have no idea what will happen next month as schools start back. I enjoy Karin Slaughter novels, but some of that is because she writes about places where I live.

  18. Cute post! I love those shows, too: Dead To Me, Ozark, and Doc Martin. I started watching Blacklist when it first appeared, and then got sidetracked. I have noticed that it is streaming, so I may try again.

I am curious about Shelter in Place, although I suspect the book is not about a Pandemic.

Enjoy your books and your new blog look! Thanks for visiting my blog.

  19. Thanks Marg! I am ever so chuffed with myself. You need to be in the mood for Ozark. For Dead to me too, come to think of it. But yes, I do believe they are both worth it.

Hope you will have a good week!

  20. We started watching Ozark and then never quite back to it. There's still time right? We still need to watch season 2 of Dead to Me.

I do like the new template too! I need to get around to redoing mine soon.

    Have a good week.
