The Sunday Post #52

Posted October 17, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 35 Comments

Greetings Humans! Spring once again decided to allude us the last 2 two days. It’s cold and rainy and miserable out there. Perfect weather for Fraterfest 2021. How’s your Fraterfest Read-a-thon going? We are having loads of fun with one book, one bag of speckled eggs, one packet of mini cupcakes and 3 cups of hot chocolate done.

How was your week? School and Ballet classes started with a bang on Monday and we didn’t do much more this week than trying to get back into rhythm. It is good to be back yes, but my Mommy’s nerves are wrecked. The last term of the year is terribly short and there are heaps of work that still need to be cramped in. If I was her, I would have just thrown in the towel now and read the remainder of the year. Next year she can try again.

Adding to the litter

We got two books for review this week. Two completely different books, but that’s the way we like it.

The Dangerous Promise by Merryn Allingham is just my Mommy’s cup of tea. Best part of all, it’s the first in a series. Little Wanderers: The Everlasting Seasons is just for me. It’s a middle grade read and the author thought our blog is so adorable and cute and she would love it if we would please read and review her book. Well, if you put it like that, of course we will.

My Mommy had Book Club this week and I am very proud of her for not taking any new books. She still had a few left from last month. And with Fraterfest read-a-thon this week, it’s better to not bring back more books. It didn’t stop her from buying books on her kindle though.

Yes, we did use a box of chocolates to display all the new books. Because with my Mommy’s diverse reading taste, it’s just like Forest Gump’s box of chocolates – you never know what you gonna get.

scratching the blog pole

First of all – thank you to everyone who still comes to visit us! Yes, the new site is a brand new island to discover and we are still trying to figure out how to do all the smoke signals. We miss our blog role, it was always easy to stay in touch that way. We will probably try to create a new one and add it to our homepage. Any other advice on how to spread the meows here on WordPress?

We managed 3 posts this week:

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Specter. We missed our dates a bit, but we are back on track again! If you want to join Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can read all about it on our menu bar. It really is a lot of fun and it’s always good to have good vocabulary if you want to sound clever or even just to tell someone where they can go after they’ve annoyed the living daylights out of you.

Book Review: Defending Innocence by Peter Kirkland. We finally figured the UBB out! Now we can start pulling through our reviews. Watch the space on the right sidebar and our Book Remeows Archive. New things are coming!

Weekend Book Friends #23 where we talked a bit more about Fraterfest and our adorable current read, The Trials of Morrigan Crow (Nevermoor #1)

on the couch

Recently Finished

Nope, I did not read this book with my Mommy. She read it all by herself yesterday while I was hiding away in the clean washing basket (I kid you not). She says it was the perfect scary read and a book she will recommend to anyone who doesn’t mind things that go bump in the night.

Currently Reading

Nevermoor is utterly delightful! I don’t mind reading it with her as it isn’t scary at all. Will we be disqualified from Fraterfest if there is hardly any scary elements? Except for The Hunt……City of Ghosts is my Mommy’s audible choice for this year’s Fraterfest. She mostly listens to it in the car and if by any chance she needs to finish it next week at home, she will have to go and find Stinkie. I think I will rather get better acquainted with the clean washing again.

And that’s it from us for this Sunday! We do hope to get our reviews updated and pulled through on the UBB and for any other posts, let’s see how the wind blows this week. We’ve come to realize that there’s no use in planning to far ahead on the blog, life constantly seems to get in the way.

Don’t forget to add your links to our lovely hosts: Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer (The Sunday Post), Debbie @ ReaderBuzz (The Sunday Salon) and Marlene @ Reading Reality (Stacking the shelves)

Wishing you all a lovely and scary as hell week to come! (Fraterfest still continues for the rest of the week)

I don’t mind reading horror books either, but struggle to watch horror movies too! I think the filter in my mind is better when reading.

I will definitely not watch Home Before Dark if there will be an adaptation!!

  1. I’ve been so terrible at blogging and blog hopping for such a while now. I’m always playing catch up. I’m hoping that Autumn will change that and I can settle back down into some sort of routine.
If you come up with a solution for your blog roll I’d love to hear about it.
    Lynn 😀

Hi there Lynn! No worries man! It’s been such a hectic year and time really just flew by in the blink of an eye.

I am using the Tweak Me theme by Nosegraze and there is an option for a blogroll on here. As soon as I have some time, I will figure out how to use it and add it on. Will keep you posted!

Hi Sarah! I have Tunnel of Bones as well and will probably continue straight with if after City of Ghosts. I’m listening to it on Audible and I find myself driving slower and stopping at the yellow light, just so that I can listen a bit more!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will have a good week!

Hi Joann! It was my first Riley Sager too, but it was soo good and I really enjoyed it! Will read more of his books for sure.

  2. Nevermoor is a fun book! I should check out the second book in the series soon.

I always have big plans for blog posts, but as you said, life gets in the way. I’ve learned to just roll with it.

    Enjoy your week!

    • elzaread

Hi Jen! I will definitely be checking out the second one in the Nevermoor series when I’m done with the first one. It’s such a fun read! Really enjoying it tremendously.

Real life does tend to get in the way of reading and blogging, but like you say – let’s just roll with it!

Hope you are well and enjoying your new destination!

    • elzaread

Glad to hear you’ve enjoyed both of them. I am listening to City of Ghosts and I find myself driving slower or stopping at the orange lights, just so I can have a bit more time listening to my book! LOL!

Hope you will have a good week too, AJ.

  3. hello. I like your blog style changes recently. It looks very good! Do you teach ballet or take ballet? Impressive! Hope the sun peeks out for you. Have a great week.

    • elzaread

Hi Susan! Yea! So glad to hear you like the changes. Everything is just a bit neater and better. Still have a lot to do, but real life tends to get in the way and ruin all my plans.

I just take ballet classes! I dance with the kids, I’m just abut their height so they don’t even realize there’s an adult with them LOL!! Definitely not a very graceful or even talented dancer, but it is so much fun and really good exercise too.

Hope you will have a good week too!

  4. Nevermoor sounds like just the perfect level of scary for me…that is, none!

It’s wonderful to get some books in the mail. It’s also wonderful to hear such lovely words about one’s blog. Congrats on getting both.

Next week will be Dewey’s Readathon. It’s a place I always meet new bloggers.

    • elzaread

Hi Debbie! I saw that it’s Dewey next weekend! I am going to see if I can get my ducks in a row and perhaps combine Dewey with Fraterfest on Friday. Can only be fun.

I love it when people think our blog is worth the mention! It makes all the hard work worth the while.

Keep well and I hope you enjoy the last bit of your hiking trail.

  5. Riley Sager is an awesome writer. I’m glad to hear you enjoyed Home Before Dark. Good luck getting back into the rhythm of a full schedule. I’m sure it’ll be normal feeling in no time. Have a great week!

    • elzaread

Hi there Tessa! If I was a little two year old, I might have stamped my feet now and say ‘but I don’t want to get into the rhythm again’! Aah real life.

Yes, I really enjoyed Home Before Dark and will keep an eye out for more books by Riley Sager.

Hope you will have a good week!

  6. Wow seems like everyone’s doing Fraterfest! I thought about doing it but just am not reading enough right now. It will be fun to see how everyone does though!

I miss my blog roll too. Even though I haven’t switched to WP I did delete it a while back, trying to clean up my sidebar, but yeah… kinda miss it. 🙁

Anyway happy reading and keep the snacks flowing!!

    • elzaread

I love Fraterfest! It’s just so much fun to put all those scary books together. I think it’s perhaps also because we don’t celebrate Halloween here in SA, so I just love being part of the fun.

      Have a good week Greg!

  7. I always want to do Fraterfest but I have too many blog tours and reviews scheduled. Maybe I can plan better for next year.

I really love your graphics. I’m not creative at all and can’t seem to make anything nice. LOL

Hope you have a great week!

    • elzaread

Hi Yvonne! My mind can be very creative, but to get it from my mind to paper or paint or computer, is a completely different story. I had one or 2 quick lessons on CANVA and now I love playing around on it! I mainly use the free version and only buy the pics I really, really want. Like the sleepy kitty. She’s my favourite.

Have a good week and happy reading.

  8. Sorry to hear the weather hasn’t been great, but sounds lovely that you’ve been able to stay in, snuggled up with hot chocolate and treats, enjoying your Fraterfest reading. 👻 My week has been a blur of work and not much else except for my dance class on Wednesday. However I did finally finish reading The Count of Monte Cristo though! 😅 Take care and happy reading. 🙂

Hi Jessica! I think we sometimes tend to over extend ourselves and then time just flies away from us! We should learn to relax more and breathe a bit deeper.

Hope you will have a wonderful week and thanks for visiting us. 😉

    • elzaread

Hi Erin! It really was worth the read yes. Don’t know if I would read it in the dark though… Let me know if you get to it and your thoughts!

    • elzaread

Visiting Family is always worth losing a day or two of reading. Hope you will have a fun time!

  9. I love the new look of your blog! I hope you enjoy The Invisible Husband of Frick Island. I read it a couple of months ago and enjoyed it. Nevermore does look delightful!

    Have a great weekend!

    • elzaread

I’ve had my eye on The Invisible Husband of Frick Island for some time, so when I saw it was on special @ BookBub, I downloaded it immediately. Looking forward to reading it!

Thanks for the compliment, glad you like the new site! So do we. 😉

    • elzaread

Hi Lisa! It really is very easy! Do you use CANVA for your graphics? That coffee is one of their free elements. I love playing around on CANVA! I rather just play on there and quickly make a fun graphic, than struggle to line all the books up in WordPress.

I’ve left you a message on your blog too. Have a good week!

  10. I would have hidden in the wash basket too, I really don’t enjoy horror or scary books either. Good luck with moving those reviews across and enjoy your reading.

    • elzaread

LOL Louise! I wouldn’t have read it at night either. But it really was good and all made perfect sense in the end.

Thanks for the well wishes and I hope you will have a good week!
