The Sunday Post #55

Posted November 28, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 32 Comments

Greetings you guys! How is your Sunday? Good to see South Africa hit the International Head Lines once again. We truly are on a roll here! I just hope that Omicron’s nickname is not going to become The Grinch. Yes, we are safe and okay and we pray that our current vaccines can withstand the test of time. Lots of memes going around the last couple of days again. This one is our favorite:

How are things in your bookish lives? My Mommy is trying very hard not to buy any new books and she stays away from all the tempting online sites. We are sooooo far behind on our reading this year, although Goodreads says we are just about done with our highest reading challenge ever. But when we got this one in the inbox, we both squealed with pleasure! Kit and Pearl are back and just in time for Christmas and no virus or Grinch can take that away.

Scratching the Blog Pole

Sorry we missed you guys last week, it’s been a crazy Sunday. My Mommy really has the best of intentions to be better prepared for her blog posts next year. She didn’t manage it this year, so I don’t know if I’ll actually hold my breath if I were you. We did manage to post 8 posts in the last two weeks and that isn’t bad for her at all! If you’ve missed any, here’s the links:

On the Couch

Currently Reading

Three very diverse reads, but we love all three! We’ve just started with The Crowns of Croswald by D.E. Night this morning and we are hooked already. Hogfather by Terry Pratchett is our Audio Read for Ho-ho-ho Readathon, it’s so funny. And Paper Ghosts by Julia Heaberlin is our Book Club pick for the last 2 months. Don’t ask me why it’s not finished yet. It really is very good.

Currently Watching

My Mommy is turning into a real Bond Girl here. Oh how she wish. We watched Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace and Skyfall in the last two weeks. We really enjoy it and think Daniel Craig is the perfect James Bond.

Just before we go today, we quickly need your help! Yes, I know we didn’t choose the best of times to switch from Blogger to WordPress. It’s been a crazy term for my Mommy and she should have known that. We love, love, love our new home! But we still need some advice on a few things:

  • WordPress follow button – do we need it or not? Still haven’t spend much time on WordPress, just play around on our own little site. What do we need?
  • Right sidebar: We were used to page visits, popular posts and a blogroll on Blogger. Now it’s gone and we miss it… What’s the alternative(s)?
  • Did anyone else struggle with Bloglovin when switching from Blogger to WordPress? I can’t pick us up on Bloglovin and we did check the RSS feed. My Mommy did send a friendly email. We haven’t heard back yet.  If anyone has some advice, please share with us.

Thank you guys.. We know we can always count on you!

Wishing you all a wonderful week ahead. Please stay safe and wear your masks!

  1. Christmas reads are fun! And let’s just pretend for a while Omicron doesn’t exist, right? Quite rude to show up at holiday time.

Glad HoHo is going well. 🙂

Yay Bond! Although I haven’t seen the last ones…

I’m not much help on the WP issues either, although I do like blogrolls and some of the stuff that Blogger makes kinda easy. Good luck with tweaking!

Hi Patricia! Not scary no, but very intriguing. Well worth trying to get your hands on it!

Thanks for taking the time to visiting us.

Aaah thank you Lark, I appreciate your care and concern. But for now we are okay!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will also have a good week.

  2. That meme is hilarious! I’ll have to steal it as I tend to be a major meme poster on Facebook. lol Love the cover and title of that cozy mystery. I switched to WordPress from Blogger about two years ago and have not been able to get my Bloglovin to update. If you figure it out, come over to my blog and tell me because I’m lost too! It’s annoying me the way they say Omicron on our news because it is different than how I learned to say it in the song I used to learn the Greek alphabet when I joined a sorority in college. But I could be saying it wrong too. Oh well. Hope you are safe and healthy!

Oh Lisa! I had to laugh out loud at your message now!! Ha ha ha!!! I don’t know the Greek Alphabet, so sorry I can’t help you there…. But if it’s one of my fellow African inhabitants that are pronouncing it, you can expect just about any pronunciation.

Oh no…. I do hope that Bloglovin is going to get back to me soon. That simply can’t be right! If I get any feedback, I promise I’ll get back to you. Making a note here to remind me of that.

      Have a good week Lisa!

Hi there Lori! From a reader’s perspective is actually all that I need. I will get that WordPress follow button as soon as possible.

Thanks for the advice and for visiting us. Hope you will have a good week!

  3. I laughter out loud at that meme!

We just watched No Time To Die, we were pretty stunned by the ending!

Yes, add a WP follow button, lots of people use it.
Sidebars are dependent on the template you use.. you can check to see if it’s an option for your current template under Appearance/ customise. There should be options to display page visits and maybe add a blog roll. You’ll have to browse your available widgets under Appearance.

Wishing you a great reading week

Hi there Shelley! I have just had a chat with the girl who helped me with my design and she said that we can still find most of the things I miss on my sidebar on the WordPress widgets. We are both teachers and will be on holidays in ten days time and will then get to it!

Thanks so much for the advice and for stopping by. I hope you will have a good week ahead.

  4. So curious what you think of the Julia Heaberlin book. And, I never got into James Bond movies until the Daniel Craig ones. So he’s my favorite too 🙂 Really hoping this new variant won’t be as bad as the Delta one. Stay safe and have a great week ahead!

    • elzaread

Hi there Iliana! I’ve liked Paper Ghosts quite a lot. It was a good read. We have another Julia Heaberlin in our book club that I hope to get to soon.

I quite enjoy the Daniel Craig James Bond movies. Not only action, but some storyline as well.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will have a good week!

Hi there Tessa! The Tracy Drew books really are a lot of fun. I’ve read them all and all of them have been worth the chuckle. I think the Christmas one can only be delightful.

      Thanks for stopping by Tessa!

Hi Jackie! Now that is really interesting. I hope Bloglovin gets back to me soon, because I quite like using it.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. You posted a lot last week! I’ve posted more than normal myself because of Nonfiction November.

Ah, a new Kit and Pearl mystery, and just in time for the holidays. That looks fun.

I’m so sorry to hear about the rise of the new variant in South Africa. As scientists are closely looking at it, I’m hoping that the vaccine is very effective against it, and that it is less contagious than Delta.

Hi Debbie! Life tends to determine how many posts I can manage in a week. I love spending time on the blog, but as you know, it’s rather time consuming. And when life is busy, I don’t get to the blog! It’s almost holidays and then I will hopefully have more time and finally sort out my blog as well as I can .

We haven’t heard much more about the new strain today, but I know the president is addressing the nation tonight and then we will hear more I guess.

Have a good week Debbie and thanks for the WWW links!

  6. mae

As I’ve been saying to other bloggers:. It always interests me how my lists can have no overlap with other readers. So many books/so little time!

    • elzaread

Hi there Mae! I have those words up in the library at school and see it everyday and have to remember it daily. We read what we can!!

  7. We really have no idea if the vaccines will be truly effective. It’s why I am determined to be healthy and active and be in the best place physically.

You and your mom are like my dad about Daniel Craig. Personally, he isn’t my favorite, I enjoy him quite a bit, but I am tied between Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. As I had watched them first and they have my heart for the Bond figure. But I am hesitant to watch this as I have heard the ending is awful.

    Have a wonderful Sunday.

    • elzaread

I haven’t watched any of the other James Bond movies but the Daniel Craig ones. My husband suggested that I watch them first.

Yes, we also try to be as healthy as possible as I don’t think the vaccines alone will keep us healthy.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  8. The Tracy Drew book looks cute. I definitely accepted too many books for review this year (even though I’ve read more books this year than ever before) so I’m trying not to buy any books – I did check out a few books from my library. Good luck with WordPress. I want to change but after 10 years with Blogger I think it would be too much work. lol. Check out what I read at Girl Who Reads.

    • elzaread

The Tracy Drew books are delightful! I’ve read them all so far and they are all good for a chuckle and I believe this one will be good for a Christmas cheer.

It really wasn’t that much work to switch from Blogger to WordPress. It’s just completely different and I need to spend more time sorting everything out. The only thing I still need to do manually is my reviews. But that will happen as well!

Have a good week and thanks for stopping by!
