The Sunday Post #65

Posted March 27, 2022 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 34 Comments

Greetings you guys! How are you all doing? I’m just quickly dropping in to say hi and that we miss you all! My Mommy has been on holidays (why can’t we scratch that anymore on WordPress?? Where’ that fun button that just drew a line through what you didn’t intend to say??) / break from school for about 10 days now and it’s been anything but a vacation…

Remember a couple of months ago we told you about the renovations coming up at our house? Well, the renovations now turned into a full-scale building project of a rather extensive nature.

  • Let’s make the garage double! Yes, let’s do that. Oh, while we’re at it, why not build an extra room attached to the garage? Yes! Let’s do it!
  • Oh wait, the new garage can actually be a direct passage into the house. How awesome is that! The only thing we need to do, is add a new staircase. Wow!
  • But wait! Seeing that the new staircase will be part of the garage, it needs to be in a fire-proof enclosed thingy. Whatever. No biggy, we can just as well turn the staircase in a little wine cellar then as well. Genius!!
  • While we’re at it, let’s move the kitchen door to make space for a beautiful landing for the new staircase. Cutting through the wooden floor and building steps is as easy as pie.
  • Don’t you think that with all this renovations we need to put some new wiring in the house? Just to be safe and have LOADS more outlets and plugs. YES!!!! That’s the best idea ever.
  • And the gas needs to move as well. It will be sooooo much more convenient if the pipe work goes through the roof, through the kitchen wall (we are going to break there in any case, remember?) and then to the back porch. All we need to add is a newly build container thingy for the gas. Oh and the water distill system thingy too.

Humans – you are crazy! This is how you build a new house from something old:

If any of the above points appear to be typed by an overstressed, dead tired, frustrated human being – you are spot on. My Mommy drives up and down after paint and steal and wood and tiles and carpets, all day long. Luckily I am here to comfort her and to give some very sound advice like only a feline can do. Daddy just keeps on saying “think of your new library. Think of your new library….”

I don’t think I need to say anything about new books acquired. Acquiring food at the appropriate times is a miracle at this stage.

Scratching the Blog Pole

We haven’t spend a lot of time on the blog the last week or so. Reviews are piling up, but we will try our best to manage a bit better this week. Please don’t count on that and just know that our intentions are as pure and fluffy as my fur coat. If you’ve missed us and haven’t read any of the below posts, here’s the links:

On the Couch

Through all the chaos, we do manage to get some reading done. And thank the heavens above we have such great reads to indulge in now!

We haven’t been watching a lot of television lately, but I do suspect tomorrow night and Tuesday night might be the ultimate snuggle time – popcorn, chocolates and Bridgerton Season 2!

How’s life been treating you lately? How was your spring break??

Wishing you all a great week ahead!

  1. Wow! You definitely have your hands full! Good luck on the renovations and look forward to seeing some pics of your new place! Library. How exciting.
I also can’t wait to dig into Bridgerton season two. Lots of snuggles with Elza.

Hi Heather! I am also looking forward to all the new renovations and the library most of all. Oooooe I can’t wait!

I’ve watched a couple of episodes of Bridgerton now and it’s really fun.

I am so sorry that I am only replying now, comments seem to run away with me from time to time.

      Hope you are doing well!

  2. Ohh renovations can be stressful! They often seem to expand too. I know what you mean. It’s best to: head for the hills. Who has $$ to do all these things?! not me. take care.

Hi there Susan! It is stressful indeed, but it’s not actually all that bad when you work with a good team. We’ve budgeted for a long time for this building project. Just hope we do get to everything within the budget.

I am so sorry I only reply so late Susan. Hope you are doing well.

Hi there Maya! My in-laws love building and renovations, I suspect it might be in the genes and my husband got a good dose of it. But YES!! It will all be worth it in the end.

Thanks so much for stopping by and soooo sorry for the late reply!

      Hi there AJ!

It’s a big project yes, but it will be worth it in the end. I’m just dreaming of my very own little library and nothing else matters.

So sorry I am a whole week late with replying, but at least I do get to it eventually…

      Hi there Anne,

I hope you are doing better and that the passed week has eased your pain a bit. May the upcoming week only be sunshine for you!

A friend of mine in London had a plan that grew and grew, and eventually included popping out the roof and adding a whole new floor to the house. When the estimate came in, the plan shrank!

good luck with it all… mae at maefood.blogspot.com

Hi there Mae! With us it’s the exact opposite! It’s the basement of the house that is now becoming a whole new “level”. We did work a few things extra into our initial budget and I do hope and pray we will still make it. The bookshelves are my own responsibly though and I have been saving up for about 2 years!!

So sorry I am a week late, but I will always eventually get back to you.

Have a good new upcoming week!

It is stressful yes, but it’s also fun! I’m trying to just take everything day by day and make sure I have enough people to help me.

Yes! It will be awesome when everything is done.

Have a good week and I hope you find an outfit for graduation!

We handed in our plans right before Covid hit and had to wait for the municipality clearing for over a year. So we are very grateful that we can finally start with the renovations!

Rock Paper Scissors and The Christie Affair are both excellent reads and I can highly recommend them.

      Have a good week!

  4. You have a lot going on! We did a kitchen and both bathes remodeled last June. Had to live in the RV for 6 weeks and that was challenging. Your home will be wonderful once you get it all done!

I read Rock Paper Scissors and I like Alice Feeney.

I did my kitchen 2 years ago and we had to cook in the patio for about 3 weeks! We did our main bathroom end of last year and it went rather smoothly and I love my bathroom. It’s a hassle now, but I know the renovations will be great!

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you will have a good week.

  5. Home renovations! HGTV makes them all seem so easy, but they sure aren’t. Best of luck to you! I just finished binging Bridgerton, season 2 last night, and I adored it. Hope you do too.

And all those Pinterest photos doesn’t help much. They also make things look so easy!

I’m sitting here watching the first episode of Bridgerton and it’s lovely indeed.

Thanks for visiting us and I hope you will have a great week ahead!

  6. Renovations are never as easy or smooth as we think they are going to be, are they? My husband decided to install 3 ceiling fans this weekend. He started in my son’s room, could not get it to work, and at the end of the day two outlets were out as well…he has no idea what the problem is. He went onto the next room and it worked really well, so who knows?!

Oh you have my sympathies! Nope, things never go as we planned and there are hick-ups around every corner. Thankfully the building contractor is a lovely man and we get on well. It does make things rather easily!

Thanks for stopping by Cindy and I hope you will have a good week.

  7. Hey Elza! Wow you guys ARE super busy! I hope it’s all going well. It will all be worth it in the end, as they say. 🙂

Thanks for your comment on my blog too. I’m doing okay- just not posting a lot.

I remember seeing Feeney’s book but never did get to it…

Hi Greg! Yes, it really is crazy. I’m ALMOST looking forward to going back to school! But not quite…

The Alice Feeney book is really good! I’m just about halfway done and can’t wait to see what the heck is going on there!

      Take care of yourself, Greg!

  8. I know very well how one thing leads to another in home renovation, and in the process takes a much much longer time to complete. It’s worth it in the end though 🙂

    • elzaread

Hi Vicki! I also believe it’s going to be worth it in the end. We just need to get through the next month or two! Lots of things to look forward to yes…

  9. You can scratch out words by surrounding them with “del” tags in the HTML end. For example, I like going to church. I typed “” without the quotes in front of “going to” and “” without the quotes after church. I hope that helps and I hope you have a good week.

    • It looks like the explanation with and without the quotes didn’t work like I expected it to. I typed “del” enclosed in before “going to” and “/del” enclosed in after “going to.” I hope that’s more helpful.

Hi Jenni! I am definitely going to try that! I wish it was still on the task bar when typing a post though. But this I’ll be able to manage yes!

Thanks for the help and have a good week ahead. Good luck with the medical procedures today…
