The Sunday Post #73

Posted June 5, 2022 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 43 Comments

Greetings you guys! How have you been doing? Our apologies for not saying hi last weekend. My Mommy decided to start moving the house back to a livable state and we haven’t even opened the blog. Or a book for that matter. The plan was that all renovations should have been done on Friday so that we can start unpacking a bit more. Alas…. Not that it’s all that bad, it’s only a few minor things that are left and one major project – My Mommy’s brand new home library….

As you can see, only the one wall’s shelves are done, the back wall’s is at the carpenters, but the alcoves haven’t even been started with. *Sigh*. This was all she wanted from all the renovations and now everything is just about done, except for this room. I really don’t get people’s priorities. Shouldn’t the library have been the first project to complete?? But still, we are giving hope and faith a fair chance here. My Mommy has school holidays in three weeks time and we will hopefully be able to unpack our stacks of books then.

Talking about stacks of books, no new stacks or singletons added over the last couple of weeks. My Mommy has Book Club on Tuesday night and she actually plans on not bringing any books home. It will be her turn to host in July (can you believe we are starting to make plans for July already??!) and she just wants her own books to be sorted out before any new ones grace our shelves.

Scratching the Blog Pole

Our ratings over the last month tells us that we really could have done better. I guess that’s true, but we do the best we can and hopefully June will be a more cheerful blogging month. Here’s what you might have missed over the last 2 weeks:

On the Couch

Our reading also took a bit of a nosedive the last two weeks. Gosh, it really is ridiculous how much time all these last little things of a building consumes. My Mommy doesn’t feel like listening to an audiobook at the moment, but she will hopefully have more energy next weekend again. Oh did I tell you that she has a bit of stomach bug as well? No worries, I’ll go cuddle with her and make her feel all better as soon as we are done here.

We are almost done with The School for Good Mothers. It’s a strange book, but definitely thought provoking. By almost done, I mean we actually still have no clue what the ending is going to be. We’ve started with The Scarlet Oak: Murder Spies and Spirits this morning and so far it’s quite good. A bit lighter than The School for Good Mothers. Perhaps my Mommy need that a bit more. Last night we’ve watched the latest installment of Fantastic Beasts – The Secrets of Dumbledore. We loved it! My Mommy says she thinks it’s time for a Harry Potter marathon. Perhaps on Audible. With Stephen Fry as the narrator. Sounds good to me!

What have you been up to lately? We wish you a lovely week ahead!

    • Hi Pam! It’s been over three weeks since this post and my library is actually still not finished…. I so desperately want to unpack my books, but it’s just not possible at the moment.

      Will keep you posted!

  1. Your pictures make me miss my library! While we were actually home in April, we had to move all our things from one storage building to another. It was hard to see my lovely bookshelves and boxes of books and put them away again. At least I re-arranged the storage unit so that I can access my to-read books now and plunder those boxes while we’re home. I hope yours is completed soon! And that you recover from the stomach bug quickly!

  2. I can’t wait to see the finished product of the library! It looks gorgeous already! Hopefully when things settle down a bit your reading will pick up. I’m sure Elza would much prefer you to sit down and get some reading done so she can snuggle. Have a wonderful week!

  3. I love your new bookshelves! Absolutely dreamy! Sounds like a smart plan to settle in your own books before adding new ones! Yes, I have begon prepping my own sewing Christmas projects when I realized we were already in JUNE!
I’m sure things will pick up as you settle into your new home. Feel better soon!

    • Thank you Patricia!

I’ve bought new books today, but they were on a HUGE special, so I couldn’t leave them. Of course I just had to place them on the new shelves. I know they’ll have to move again, but for now it makes me happy to see them there.

      Have a blessed week Patricia.

  4. Ooh your new library already looks fantastic, I bet it’s going to be even more amazing when it’s done! I want a room like that… 🙂 Does Elza have a spot staked out yet?

I hear so many good things about Stephen Fry as a narrator. I just saw another blog where someone was talking about how great a job he does on the Douglas Adams audiobooks…

    • Hi Greg!

Yes, she does have a spot set out already. The window is going to have a bench with a studded pillow and a few scatters. Of course she’s going to take possession of that spot!

I simply can’t wait to share the final results with all of you!

Take care Greg and have a good week.

  5. Oh dear. So sorry to hear you have had a bit of a stomach bug in addition to all the renovation woes and general tiredness. Let’s hope you are feeling better soon.

Shouldn’t the library have been the first project to complete? Uh, duh, yes…what is wrong with people? Do they not understand the most important things should be done first?!

That library is going to be fantastic when it is finished.

    • Hi Debbie!

How special are you for noticing that I’m tired. You are a wonderful virtual friend. It’s almost holidays with now building or anything. So there will be time to relax and just unwind.

I’ve bought new books today on a really huge special and of course I just had to place them on the shelves that are done already! That was a wonderful feeling. Can’t wait to share the final product with you!

      Have a super week Debbie.

    Have a great week!

    • I have packed up all my books over a year ago already and really tried not to buy too new ones. I know there will be some empty space left, or at least I hope there will be! Otherwise I’m not quite sure what I’ll do.

Have a good week Shelleyrae and thanks for the visit!

  7. I LOVE the library! Of course, that should have been your first priority, LOL; but I guess kitchens and bedrooms are high up, too.

    Enjoy your week!

    • Hi Laurel-Rain!

Kitchens and Bedrooms were done a couple of years ago. This building project was for the garage, my hubby’s study, the front porch and veranda and my library….

Everything is done, except the library! Oh what the heck, it will happen!

Thanks for stopping by and have a good week!

    • Hi there Tina!

The problem is that just about the whole house is in a complete mess now. Because the rooms that didn’t need any renovations, were used as storage for the other rooms. It is REAL work and damn hard. But I am looking forward to the end results.

      Thanks for the visit!

    • I know that I am very privilege to have to opportunity to have my own library! We are in our house for 5 years and that little room is downstairs and used to be an office for the previous owners. So now it’s finally becoming something we can also use!!

Have a good week and thanks for stopping by!
