Top Ten Tuesday 10 Books that make me smile

Posted July 14, 2020 by elzaread in Top Ten Tuesday / 24 Comments

Today’s Top Ten Tuesday is absolutely purrrrrfect! “10 Books that make me smile”. It hasn’t been the easiest time for smiles around the world lately. My mommy loves singing the following song to me:

“Smile though your heart is aching

Smile even though it’s breaking

When there are clouds in the sky you’ll get by

If you smile through your fear and sorrow

Smile and maybe tomorrow

You’ll see the sun come shining through

For you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness

Although a tear maybe ever so near

That’s the time you must keep on trying

Smile- what’s the use of crying

You’ll find that…”

Even if you have to wear your mask THE.WHOLE.DAY. Remember to smile behind it. And if you need something to smile about, here’s my Mommy’s 10 favorite books to bring a smile behind your mask:

Good Omens by Terry Prachett and Neil Gaiman Why? Aziraphale (angel with some bad) and Crowley (demon with some good)
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery  Why?  Anne with an ‘e’ (you just smiled, didn’t you?)
Right ho, Jeeves by P.G. Wodehouse Why? Right ho, Jeeves! Yes, Sir.
Me before you by Jojo Moyes Why? Louisa Clark. Bumble-bee tights.

Rachel’s Holiday by Marian Keyes Why?  That’s hard to explain. But you will smile.
If tomorrow comes by Sidney Sheldon Why? If you have to be a thief. Be like Tracy. Or Jeff.
Recipes for love and murder by Sally Andrew Why? Tannie Maria and her agony-aunt column.

Yes Please by Amy Poehler Why? The robots will kill us all.
The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion Why? I’ve never seen my daddy enjoy a book  more.

I hope that some of these brought a smile to your face. Please share your smiles with us as well! And don’t forget to link up with Jana at That Artsy Reader Girl to share your TTT with the whole world.

Lots of love,

Elza

  1. I really do need to read Good Omens. Gaiman is such a dynamic fantasy writer.

    • I'm sure I wasn't the only one who had that song stuck in my head now for the past couple of days. Glad to see Anne brings a smile to everyone's face.

  2. Oh, man, I love that song! My grandmother used to sing it. :3 Good Omens is a fantastic choice. Aziraphale and Crowley had such a fantastic dynamic, and the book was just plain funny! Have you read any other Terry Pratchett books? They never fail to make me giggle.

    Here's my TTT post.

    • Hi Sammie! I've read Terry Pratchett in my first and second year of studies, many years ago! Truly an amazing author. Neil Gaiman is one of my favorite authors and I think the team effort between the two for Good Omens were simply marvelous.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  3. It's amazing the difference a smile can make! Or a laugh. And Amy Poehler usually cracks me up. Anne of green Gables seems to bring a lot of people joy too.

    • I am actually not the greatest Amy Poehler fan, but Yes Please was exellent!

Anne of Green Gables is a smile-indicting classic.
