Just like the book that I am featuring today, this post will be short and sweet.
One of the book companions that I’ve picked last week for The Tudor Queens Book Tag, was a lovely little book called The President’s Hat by Antoine Laurain. Thinking about that little jewel, made me decide to use some quotes from it. It’s a light read, with some heavy characters.
And a hat. The only possible thing wrong with the hat, was that it didn’t have a cat in it. Otherwise, we would all want to have that hat.
“If you want to get ahead, wear a hat.”
Men with hats were really so much more distinguished than men without hats. Maybe that’s why the world went pop.
“Wearing a hat gives you a feeling of authority over someone who isn’t.”
This wasn’t a highly popularised book, so if you don’t know what it’s about, here’s a quick blurb from Goodreads:
Dining alone in an elegant Parisian brasserie, accountant Daniel Mercier can hardly believe his eyes when President François Mitterrand sits down to eat at the table next to him.
Daniel’s thrill at being in such close proximity to the most powerful man in the land persists even after the presidential party has gone, which is when he discovers that Mitterrand’s black felt hat has been left behind.
After a few moments’ soul-searching, Daniel decides to keep the hat as a souvenir of an extraordinary evening. It’s a perfect fit, and as he leaves the restaurant Daniel begins to feel somehow … different.

“The important events in our lives are always the result of a sequence of tiny details.”
“Sometimes life carries you in different directions and you don’t even realise you’ve gone down a fork in the road; the great GPS of destiny has not followed the planned route and there has been no sign to indicate you’ve passed the point of no return. Life’s Bermuda Triangle is both myth and reality.”
“Governments come and go. Life is the only movement that keeps going.”
I vote for men wearing hats again. Who seconds?
Hi Heather! It so is. I am sure you will enjoy it tremendously.
I have a tall dark anf hanndsome hubby (in comparison with my short and chubby physique),but he never wears a hat! Not even to the beach.
This sounds like a brilliant book, I look awful in hats as does my husband!
Me, me, me. I brought my husband back a stylish hat from Paris last winter, and he wears it on our morning walks.
And I enjoyed this book so much.
Hi Deb! I'm so glad that you have also read this book and enjoyed it. It was lovely!
Sounds like a fun read. And I love that cover..

Hi Sherry! I never wear a hat. My sister loves it. But a man with a hat… There's just something so classy and authoritative. Do you watch The Blacklist? I love Red's hat!
