Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy is at home! Yea for me! It’s been terribly cold here across the country with snowfall in a number of places. Yes, we know that snow is nothing new to many of you, but for us, it sure is wow!
Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets?
A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time.
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better?
In The Midnight Library, Matt Haig’s enchanting new novel, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision. Faced with the possibility of changing her life for a new one, following a different career, undoing old breakups, realizing her dreams of becoming a glaciologist; she must search within herself as she travels through the Midnight Library to decide what is truly fulfilling in life, and what makes it worth living in the first place.
Book Beginnings
For our first stop today, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings. Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other.
The Friday 56
Next we will pay a visit to Freda over at Freda’s voice who hosts the Friday 56. Don’t show up empty handed though!
- Grab a book (Yes, any book. But it might get you to your other Friday activities a bit quicker if you just grab the book you are currently reading)
- Turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader
- Find a sentence or two (your other Friday activities might determine this)
- Post it!
- Remember to post your link on Freda’s Voice and to visit the other guys in the linky.
- And last but not least, don’t forget to list the title of the book and the author as well.
Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger’s hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Every week, there will be a prompt featuring a book related question. It’s hosted by Ramblings of a coffee addicted writer and I guess he hops around like a bunny due to all the caffeine. Hence his name.
Friendly Fill-Ins
We are having so much fun with the Friendly Fill-Ins. It’s a lovely way to link up with fellow blogger and a few feline friends. Friendly Fill-Ins is hosted by 15 and Meowing and Four-Legged Furballs. They come up with a couple of sentences, and then you have to fill in the blanks. This week’s questions:
I think my Mommy can have the honors of answering the questions today.
The 'Shit it's cold' photo really made me laugh xD 'The Midnight Library' is absolutely a book I want to read as well but I think I might wait for cold and snow as well, that seems more apt than heat and sweat! I'm absolutely going to check out your Classics Club tag, see ya there!
Juli @ A Universe in Words
Hi there Juli! I bought The Midnight Library for myself for Christmas last year and here in SA, it's as hot as hell over Christmas time. I just didn't have time to get to it during the December holidays. But maybe it is a bit better to read it in the cold….
Hope you will enjoy the Classics Club!
I've been caught up with daily / work stuff and seem to have missed out on a lot of posts! The snow scenery looks right cozy, and I'm glad it cheered you up!
Hi there Lex! I've been missing you! Don't stress, life does tend to get in the way of blogging and reading and reviewing. So terribly unfair. The snow was pretty, but the sun is shining again and that will always be me preferred scenery!
I'm with you on your shock on snow. I'm not a fan of that stuff at all and very glad we don't get it very often and when we do it is very short lived. The Midnight Library is on my TBR. It looks so good!
Hi Katherine! We love watching the snow from a distance, but nope – no dire need to go and build a snowman! I will keep you updated with The Midnight Library, but I think you will enjoy it yes.
Great book choice! I'm interested in reading it too!
Hi there Catherine! It is a good read and don't think you will be disappointed!
I enjoyed The Midnight Library very much. It's life-affirming.
And I am so glad that you joined the Classics Club!
What a lovely term – Life-affirming. I love that Debbie and it sure is the feeling that I also get from The Midnight Library. I should spend more time on The Classics Club. Will have to start catching up for sure.
I hope your challenge for the Classics Club is going great so far!! I like the sound of The Midnight Library!
So far we are enjoying The Midnight Library. My Classics Club challenge can definitely look a bit better…! But I will catch up eventually!
I have this book on my wish list! Happy weekend!
Hi Freda! I do hope your wish comes true real soon.
Looks like an interesting read! I hope you get a chance to read it this weekend.
Hi there Cindy! I'm about halfway through already. Yes, it sure is an interesting read!
I bought The Midnight Library a few weeks back and I can't wait to read it. I just need to get through a few ebooks first before I let myself. I've been thinking about joining in on the Classics Club so maybe I will in a few months.
Lauren @ My Expanding Bookshelf
I am enjoying The Midnight Library so far and I hope it will live up to its hype. I'm not participating in the Classic Club as well as I should, but I still love it and will catch up again soon!
The Midnight Library looks like a great book. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins, great answers. I am glad the riots have stopped. XO
I am enjoying it so far and I hope it will live up to its hype.
I love The Friendly Fill-Ins and try to take part as much as possible!
Snow! Yikes. Hope things slow down a bit for you!
Hi Greg! The only way that I'll get things to slow down a bit, is if I let it slow down. Somedays I feel that it's time to start doing just that.
The snow is amazing yes!
We're having the exact opposite weather, but I'm staying inside too. It's hot and humid out there. That book looks really good. I hope you have a great weekend!
I had to go out this morning to get some shopping done and at least the sun was shining! LOL!!
I congratulate you on keeping your cool in the face of idiocy. That is a tough thing to do! And snow… how fun. We last had snow in 1962 (I was not alive for it, but I have seen a photo).
Hi there Helen! Yes, it's been one of those weeks where you just had to keep that smile plastered on your face.
I remember it snowed when I was a little girl and now it's the second year in a row that we have snow on the mountains and surrounding areas. Very cool! In more ways than one…..
I listened to the audiobook for The Midnight Library earlier this year, and enjoyed it!
I can imagine that the audio reading must have been good as well. I enjoy reading The Midnight Library so far. I see there are rather mixed reviews, so let's see how I'm going to end up feeling about it!
It's hot here, but soon the season will change and the snow will come.
Love your fill ins and especially #2. I pray for you and your country.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. ♥
The colder weather should subside within a week or two, but we don't really see summer again until around mid December. That's the one thing I don't like about our little coastal town.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
What an intriguing premise! I'm definitely curious for more. I don't know how I missed this book, but I'll have to check it out. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
Hi Ashley! It is an intriguing and premise and definitely something different. Enjoying it so far!
