It’s the weekend and although the sun is shining, it’s dreadfully cold. Perfect weather to move all the week’s work aside and pull the books and weekend shenanigans closer. Daddy’s been away the whole week, so we are eagerly awaiting his return. In the meantime, Mommy is busy wit a bit of Diamond Painting and finishing her audio book so that she can start with one of the books in her Audible folder she just can’t wait to start with. I’ts part of the Hello Sunshine Book Club and we love all those books! Or most of them. Excited for this one:
Erin is a documentary filmmaker on the brink of a professional breakthrough, Mark a handsome investment banker with big plans. Passionately in love, they embark on a dream honeymoon to the tropical island of Bora Bora, where they enjoy the sun, the sand, and each other. Then, while scuba diving in the crystal blue sea, they find something in the water. . . .
Could the life of your dreams be the stuff of nightmares?
Suddenly the newlyweds must make a dangerous choice: to speak out or to protect their secret. After all, if no one else knows, who would be hurt? Their decision will trigger a devastating chain of events. . . .
Have you ever wondered how long it takes to dig a grave?
Wonder no longer. Catherine Steadman’s enthralling voice shines throughout this spellbinding debut novel. With piercing insight and fascinating twists, Something in the Water challenges the reader to confront the hopes we desperately cling to, the ideals we’re tempted to abandon, and the perfect lies we tell ourselves. Book Beginnings
For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings. Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other.
The Friday 56
Next we will pay a visit to Freda over at Freda’s voice who hosts the Friday 56. Don’t show up empty handed though!
- Grab a book (Yes, any book. But it might get you to your other Friday activities a bit quicker if you just grab the book you are currently reading)
- Turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader
- Find a sentence or two (your other Friday activities might determine this)
- Post it!
- Remember to post your link on Freda’s Voice and to visit the other guys in the linky.
- And last but not least, don’t forget to list the title of the book and the author as well.
Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger’s hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Every week, there will be a prompt featuring a book related question. It’s hosted by Ramblings of a coffee addicted writer and he guess he hops around like a bunny due to all the caffeine. Hence his name.
Hi Lynn, I also think that cover is gorgeous. It brings a different quality to the whole book.
Hi FLora! Glad you liked them! It's such a lovely book, but not everyone's reading preference. Glad you also liked my BBH answer, just made sense to me.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Lovely choice for the FFO – strangely enough I'm drawn to the cover that is completely different from the others in style and colour – although I do like the white covers too.
Lynn 😀
What a lovely collect of Friday meme's. I love those white covers too. I wonder why the Dutch print was different? I also like the way you answered the BBH, why didn't I think of that – genius!
Elizabeth! How lovely to see you! I am heading over to your right now for a quick chat.
Nice answer to the Blog Hop.
Thanks for sharing.
I'm going to start with Something in the Water now – will keep you guys updated!
Hi Ann, I've read it last year when I was in my 40's already. I don't think a 14 year old will understand it, though. We've had it in the book club and there were certain ladies who also didn't like it. I loved it…. Surrealism is not for everyone.
I read a lot if WWII, I think the different style was what really caught my attention.
Hi Sarah, you are right – if the Bulgarian cover's title were printed in red, it would have been perfect. It is a lovely book.
Thanks so much for stopping by and for always staying a while for a little chat. It means a lot to me!
Cool, Something in the water sounds fascinating!
Thanks for dropping by my blog. I read Anna and Swallow Man several years ago and found it to be very confusing. I think surrealism is okay but for teens? Not sure it works. Your thoughts.
I feel like I need more from this one. Happy weekend!
Something in the Water sounds like a fantastic read. The quotes are interesting. Enjoy your current read!
What a cracking beginning for a book! I do love the sound of Something in the Water… and your book choice for Friday Face-off is a delight and completely unknown to me. I love your favourite – those two figures are just wonderful and I think it would been perfect, if the title font was in red, instead of grey. I hope you have a lovely weekend, Mareli – and dear little Elza also snuggles up with you in the cold. While it's one of the hottest days of the year so far, here…
What a great beginning. Definitely makes me want to know more. Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Hi Louise, thanks! And thanks for stopping by! Happy weekend!
I love the meal analogy in Book Blogger Hop. Well said! ?
I just knew I shouldn't have done it! I really like the sound of 'Something In The Water', and was totally intrigued by what the couple might have found and why you wouldn't want to tell anyone, let alone why you would feel the need to bury whatever it is and not just leave it at the bottom of the ocean. So I went over to Goodreads, only to find that someone has written a real 'spoiler' of a review, so now I know just about the entire storyline!
Never mind – It probably won't stop me reading it anyway and thanks for sharing 🙂

I love your analogy for the Blog Hopper question, it's a perfect answer!
Hi Laurel Rain! I'm also thinking about them a lot. Will go read now so I can tell you more.
Hi Proxyfish! Anna and the Swallow man is a beautiful little big. A bit magical realism, but still lovely.
Your excerpts made me think and wonder about the characters and their lives. Thanks for sharing…and for visiting my blog.
Oh they are really beautiful covers, though I have never heard of the book! I love your choice and maybe the one with the red text too! 😀
