It’s the weekend! Gosh, the past two weeks have been a bit rough. So glad it’s Friday and we can just sit back and enjoy our books for a day or two. Sorry we missed you guys last week, but there just wasn’t time to do any posts! Sick cat, sick staff at work, long weekend…. The excuses are endless. We’ll give a full update on Sunday, so check in then again.
But we are here today and can’t wait to start our weekend!
Let’s start with what book we are going to read over the next 72 hours. This is the third book in the Don Tillman trilogy and if you are looking for a fun, humorous series and love The Big Bang Theory, then this is the series for you!
The Rosie Result is the triumphant final installment of the internationally bestselling series that began with The Rosie Project.
Meet Don Tillman, the genetics professor with a scientific approach to everything. But he’s facing a set of human dilemmas tougher than the trickiest of equations.
Right now he is in professional hot water after a lecture goes viral; his wife of 4,380 days, Rosie, is about to lose the research job she loves; and – the most serious problem of all – their eleven-year-old son, Hudson, is struggling at school. He’s a smart kid, but socially awkward-not fitting in.
Fortunately, Don’s had a lifetime’s experience of not fitting in. And he’s going to share the solutions with Hudson. He’ll need the help of old friends and new, lock horns with the education system, and face some big questions about himself. As well as opening the world’s best cocktail bar.
Big-hearted, hilarious and exuberantly life-affirming, The Rosie Result is a story of overcoming life’s obstacles with a little love and a lot of overthinking. Goodreads
Book Beginnings
For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings. Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other.
The Friday 56
Next we will pay a visit to Freda over at Freda’s voice who hosts the Friday 56. Don’t show up empty handed though!
- Grab a book (Yes, any book. But it might get you to your other Friday activities a bit quicker if you just grab the book you are currently reading)
- Turn to page 56 or 56% on your e-reader
- Find a sentence or two (your other Friday activities might determine this)
- Post it!
- Remember to post your link on Freda’s Voice and to visit the other guys in the linky.
- And last but not least, don’t forget to list the title of the book and the author as well.
Book Blogger Hop
The Book Blogger’s hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog. Every week, there will be a prompt featuring a book related question. It’s hosted by Ramblings of a coffee addicted writer and he guess he hops around like a bunny due to all the caffeine. Hence his name.
Once again, welcome to South Africa! Where the animals are big, the crime is big, plenty of the people are big, but libraries – they are not big. Here and there you will find a small town library that will blow your mind, but seeing that most libraries form part of local municipalities, it’s mostly miss-managed and grossly neglected. The few libraries that are privately run, are worth the visit though.
Hi Flora! Me and my sister also loved going to the library when we were young. I still see it as a magical place.
Hope the re-opening of the library goes well. Libraries are a magical place for children – my girls used to enjoy our frequent visits when they were younger.
Yay for the library reopening! Ours opened for curbside a few months ago and I was so excited! We aren't using it now because we aren't at home but it's one of my favorite places. Hope you have a lowely week!
I love the cover where she is biting her lip! I’ll also be sure to pop in if I ever visit SA!
Enjoy your time back at the library! A few years ago, my local library moved from a tiny building to a giant building. They still have massive waitlists for all the books I want to read though!

Dear purring Elza,
You left a comment saying I should write about words more often, but I post about words regularly already. I'm a word person from way-way back. If you click on the label "words" below my blog posts (or the link I'll provide below), you'll see that I've already written about a LOT of words. I'm fascinated by words, words, words.

I love your FFO choice and your favourite – that facial expression is great and it's the cover that immediately jumped out to me. It looks fun.
Lynn 😀
Hi Marg! I hope you get to the series some time soon. Happy weekend and thanks for the visit!
Hi Anne! Yes, they are! Way different than the Mr Mercedes series though. LOL!!!
Hi Ashley! It is a great series! Try it out!
Hi Bonnie! Loved your post! Thanks for the shout out. Hope you get to read the Don Tillman series soon, it's worth it!
Hi Louise! Yes, the kids love going to the library. I also love my job! I am an avid reader, but also a social creature, so I love having the kids around and talking about books.
Hope you will have a wonderful weekend!
Hi there Yvonne! Both books I've shared are funny and light hearted, but so worth the read.
Thanks for visiting! Hope you will have a wonderful weekend.
Hi Sarah! I've missed you guys too. Will definitely do a Sunday Post. Thanks for the shout out! I love my job, hard work yes, but very rewarding.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hi Tammy, the first one is the default one. I guess there's a lot of reasons why a book covers is the default one! Most probably because it's mostly the popular and most eye catching one.
Hi Laurel-Rain! Read the rest of the series as well, it's just so good.
I loved the first book in the Rosie series, went and saw the author speak about the second one, got a signed copy and…..that's it! One day I will get back to that series.
I read the Rosie Project and loved it. What a hoot! But I never read on. Are the sequels as good as the first? My quotes are from Mr. Mercedes
This sounds like such a fun read. I'll have to check out this series. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
Elza, I've linked a new blog post to this one. I love your sentence: "Who in the world uses words like propensity?" So I wrote about it.

What a great round up! I bet working in a library is a lot of hard work but also great fun. I loved visiting the library as a child, so it's good that at least some children are getting to share that joy.
Sounds like a great read!! Happy weekend!
Whilst the 'Don Tillman' trilogy probably isn't one for me, I really enjoyed the extracts and premise you shared from 'The Rosie Result', they were intriguing and quite funny!
The Maria Semple book is another one which wouldn't immediately grab my attention story wise, although the cover options are all pretty eye-catching. Personally I like the top centre side view option, and that's mainly because the title and author are off to the side and not printed through the sunglasses!
Thanks for sharing and have a peaceful weekend 🙂
Yvonne xx
I hope the coming weekend is a better one than last week – I'd missed your Sunday Post, so I'm glad to see you back this week. Thank you for the information regarding libraries – yes… books are vital. And go you for working so hard to help maintain a library. Good to hear it's opening up.
As for your Friday Face-off – I agree with your favourite – I just love the tilted head and the twist of the lips:)). Have a lovely relaxing weekend and I hope Elza is now much better!
I love your pick for The Friday Face off, and my favorite cover is the first one?
Now I am curious, since I read the first books in the Rosie series. Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “IMPERFECT WOMEN”
