Wondrous Words Wednesday – Asinine

I can’t believe a fortnight has passed and it’s time for Wondrous Wednesday again. I am so sorry that we have been absent from the blogosphere so much over the last 14 days. This time of the year is just crazy. Especially if your school-year runs from January to December. There simply isn’t enough hours in the day and too many things on your plate, leads to stupid mistakes and foolish actions.

Wondrous Words Wednesday is a biweekly meme hosted by yours truly. The concept is fairly easy – all you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here.

Stupid and foolish actions, brings us to our Wondrous Word for today:

My Mommy is currently reading This must be the place by Maggie O’Farrell. It’s what my Mommy calls an onion book. So many layers that needs to be peeled. It’s a Book Club book and she’s had it for the last two months and she’s still not done! It’s just one of those books that need to be savored and read at a comfortable pace. Such gorgeous writing and so many characters and plotline that you need to keep track of.

Last night, while she still thought she might actually have it done before Book Club (that is tonight), she came across the following passage:

Ari gave a scoffing exhale and looked round with an expression of barely veiled disgust. “Is this the kind of asinine nonsense they teach you at counsellor school?”

The counsellor laced his fingers together, realising with a dismaying jolt, that he had no idea what ‘asinine’ meant.

Don’t worry dear Counsellor, neither did we. Does that make me a cat who is now a complete ass?

Asinine: of or belonging to, or having the qualities of the ass, as stupidity and obstinacy.

As you know, my Mommy loves to combine her Wondrous Words Wednesday with a book or two. For today, we can only think of assess. Luckily we don’t have to dig very hard and these two easily comes to mind:

These are the literal ones we can think of without wrecking our brains. Who are the figurative ones you can think of? Our list is endless, but we just don’t have the time to even scrape the surface.
