Wondrous Words Wednesday – Titanic

Posted April 13, 2022 by elzaread in Wondrous Words Wednesday / 18 Comments

Greetings you guys! It’s Wednesday and time for Wondrous Words Wednesday, hosted by yours truly. The concept of Wondrous Words Wednesday is fairly easy, all you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here. There is a Mr. Linky attached at the bottom of this post if you’d like to make your own post and add your link.

Can you believe that tomorrow is the 110 year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic?  As far as I have it, there is no one left to tell the tale, but throughout the last century, there’s been numerous recollections, retellings and speculations on the awful events of 14/15 April 1912.

Therefore, I’ve decided to make our Wondrous Word for this week:

I’m not going to give you a history lesson today. I am sure The History Channel and various other platforms are flooded with programs and articles this whole week. But did you know that Titanic’s name didn’t just get sucked out of some rich investor’s thumb? Oh no, the name was chosen because it was the largest passenger steamship of its time and it was considered a very strong ship – it was titanic.

I guess it really was a very strong ship, but if you hit a titanic iceberg with titanic force, the Titanic is bound to sink.

My Mommy has been enthralled by the tragic events since she was but a little girl. Please remember that my Mommy was a little girl a few years before Spielberg’s epic movie, TITANIC, hit movie theatres in 1997. When the Titanic artifacts exhibition was in South Africa a couple of years ago, my Mommy begged and pleaded with Daddy to take her to go and see the exhibition in Cape Town.

Of course if she can combine her love for history and her love for literature, my Mommy is at her happiest! Here’s few of our favorite Titanic-themed books:

Have you read any of these? Or any other interesting books on the Titanic? Fiction or non-fiction is fine with us!

If you want to join us for this bi-weekly meme and share your own Wondrous Words with us, you are welcome to add your link to the Mr Linky below:

Wordless Wednesday

We simply love joining up with Wordless Wednesday. From new words to no words, a perfect combination. Wordless Wednesday is hosted by Sandee @ Comedy Plus and it’s even more simple than Wondrous Words Wednesday.

Wordless Wednesday (WW) is a visual blogosphere phenomenon. Wordless Wednesday is a simple blog post featuring a photo which conveys a message that speaks for itself without using words. One thing for sure is this is a fun and easy meme to do. So come and join us in Wordless Wednesday.

After 110 years, this event still leaves the world wordless.

  1. Love your word of the week! I watch Tasting History with Max Miller on YouTube and he has done a whole month of Titanic recipes and it has been fascinating! I remember when the ship was found and I watched every documentary and read everything I could find on it.

    • Hi Wendy!

When I read your message, I immediately went to Netgalley to see if I can get a copy. Alas, not for download in SA. Damn. I think I’ll read anything on the Titanic. Luckily I now know I can look forward to your review on A Dress of Violet Taffeta.

      Have a good Easter Weekend!

  3. Thank you for the kind words you left on my blog for the loss of Sammy. I am sorry I haven’t visited lately, I took a little time off. XO

  4. We saw the Titanic exhibit several years ago at the Museum of Nature and Science. It was very sad at the end but quite an experience. Thank you for sharing this.
