Top Ten Tuesday – 10 Books that make me Hungry

Posted September 1, 2020 by elzaread in Top Ten Tuesday / 40 Comments

It’s Tuesday and time for everyone’s favorite weekly meme – Top Ten Tuesday! As usual, it is hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. My Mommy is having a glass of wine and some popcorn and I am nibbling on my Nibbles. You just can’t help snacking with today’s theme: 10 Books that make me hungry.

Food, food, glorious food…. Pair it with books and you have a magnificent day. Add in a few cocktails and your week will be pretty much perfect!
1. Recipes for Love and Murder – A Tannie Maria mystery by Sally Andrew No, the title is not misleading. Or not completely. This book actually does come with recipes. In fact, all three books in this series come with the recipes included. Best part, it is all proudly South African. This is a cozy mystery with lots of laughs and typical South African characters. If you don’t want to read it, it’s worth getting the books just for the recipes. Delicious!
2. Baking Cakes in Kigali by Gaile Parkin Still on the continent. Go visit Angel in Rwanda and make sure to order one of her buttery cakes.
3. The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender This book has been on my Mommy’s TBR list for way to long. That cake looks yummy.  I have an idea of what the story is about and I believe the title is perfect. My mommy bakes the best Lemon Meringue and I believe that is also a bit like real life. The sweet and sour need to be balanced. But it doesn’t always work like that.
4. Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult Still mother’s and daughters. This book will break more than eggs. It might break your heart too. Every chapter opens with a recipe that is a perfect companion to the chapter. I haven’t tried any of them. It makes my Mommy sad. But it’s there on the shelf for the taking.
5. Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal Staying in the family, but this time it’s a father-daughter / mother-daughter relationship. I haven’t read this one yet, but really want to. I think it’s perfect for today’s prompt.
6. Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe by Fannie Flagg From the Midwest to Alabama where a Southern kind of Wobegon Cafe offers good barbecue, good coffee, all kinds of love and laughter and even the occasional murder too.
7. The Help by Kathryn Stockett Minny sure knows how to cook up a storm. In more ways than one. She also bakes the most delicious pies. BUT I would be weary of her Chocolate Pie if I were you.
8. Sushi for Beginners by Marian Keyes My Mommy’s read this book ages ago and she is of that age where you can’t always remember everything all the time. Can’t remember if there were any actual sushi in this book. But we do love sushi. Especially the salmon. Salmon is my favorite indulgence. I wanted to add Salmon Fishing in the Yemen by Paul Torday, but my Mommy’s favorite indulgence won the vote.
9. Chocolat by Joanne Harris Pure indulgence. The book and the chocolate. I’m not allowed to have chocolate. Apparently it’s not good for cats.
10. The Rosie Project by Don Tillman What better way to end of your lovely dinner and delicious dessert, than with a cocktail. Call in Professor Don Tillman. He will serve you the best cocktail with the exact measurements and only the best ingredients.
What books make you hungry? Did any of my picks tickle your taste buds?

Remember to link your hunger pangs to Jana and share them with us.

Happy eating!
Lots of Love,

Elza

  1. I haven't read "The Help" (I think I started, too…?), but yes, the film is all about good food. 🙂 Either way, it's a great addition. Thanks so much for visiting Finding Wonderland's post of this week; apologies it took me so long to visit here.

    • Hi Deanna! I know! I think I will bake a cake that looks similar…But Lemon cake needs to go with vanilla frosting. So maybe I'll just color it yellow.

    • Hi Anne, a friend of mine has read The particular sadness of Lemon Cake and she also said it wasn't an easy read. But I still want to read it though.

      Thanks for stopping by!

    • Hi Deb! I've actually never really paid attention to books with food. But I loved Recipes for Love and Murder. Have a look at that series. I'm sure you are going to love it! It's all about food and a nice, cozy murder mystery.

      Have a good week!
