The Sunday Post #31

Posted March 7, 2021 by elzaread in Stacking the shelves, The Sunday Post, The Sunday Salon / 34 Comments

Greetings you all! So sorry that we missed you last week. The days whirl away in a blast of sunshine and 25 hour days. But still not enough hours to get to the blog as much as we would like to. I think I’m going to ask Daddy to trade my Nibbles for Bar One chocolates. That one extra hour a day might help my Mommy to read and blog a bit more. If you don’t know what a Bar One chocolate is, it’s the South African version of a Mars Bar. Just better.

Anyhows – what have you been up to? What books are new on your shelf? We have quite a few to share with you!

Adding to the Litter

I’m starting to pick up the trend here with my Mommy. When she is stressed out, or over-worked, her comfort drug is books. Let’s rather not complain about it at all. It could have been way worse.
For Review

The Disappearance of Emily by Elizabeth Pantley – From the lovely author herself
Bookbub & Daily Deals

Book Club

Not sure when exactly she plans on reading them all though. We do have holidays in two weeks time, I guess she’s gathering for then.

Scratching the Blog Pole

We I did two Top Ten Tuesday posts this passed 2 weeks. Mommy seriously didn’t have time and I so had the bestest ideas for the prompts, so I just hijacked it.  Photos link to the relevant posts.
We did one Wondrous Words Wednesday and that’s okay. This feature, hosted by yours truly, are only biweekly.
We didn’t do a Sunday Post last week, Mommy needed to sort out her Book Club books. Not the best reading month has passed and she did a quick mini review post. It was fun and I think we might make this a monthly feature. Let’s see how it goes with those 25 hour days.
And yesterday Mommy did our monthly Six Degrees of Separation. I still actually have no idea how she got from Phosphorescence Lassie Come Home, but she did it!

On the Couch

Recently Read

My Mommy was so excited to receive her copy of The Disappearance of Emily, the second book in the Destiny Fall series, she started reading immediately. It’s a quick, let’s take a break and sit in the sun and read boo. Delightful as well! Review will be up somewhere this week!

The Keeper of Lost Causes took a bit longer, but good grief – what a brilliant read! Mommy and Daddy watched the adaptation last night as well and it was just as good.
Currently Reading

A year of Marvelous Ways is a bit of a strange book, but we don’t feel like giving up yet. Tell No One is brilliant from the word go. I know my Mommy really wants to just dig in and read, but life is a bit hectic. But we’ll read as much as we can.
And that’s all from us today! What juicy news can you share with us? Anything except The Harry/Meghan Soap Oprah.
Have a wonderful week and I hope life is a bit less hectic on your side.

  1. Ooo a blast of sunshine would be most welcome here please! ? I'm afraid I haven't got any juicy gossip for you and my week has been pretty ordinary. I hope you enjoy all your new books and the extra time to read them. ?

    • I love sunshine! I live in the perfect country for that. Today it's a bit overcast and we hope for some rain.

We have holidays in one week's time and then life will calm down a bit and there will be loads of time for reading!

  2. Harry and Megan are on 24 hours a day over here. Well it feels like that, the nation is divided again.

I really want a One Bar, I love sweets from other countries, the first thing I do on holiday is hit the supermarket and check out the flavours of sweets, coffee and crisps that we can’t get here!

    Have a lovely week!

    • Hi Heather! My husband just goes for the Snickers. That's the one chocolate bar you can really get everywhere. Do you know a KitKat?? I love those!

Agh, the Harry and Meghan thing is such a circus. I really don't care who is right and who is wrong, I don't think going on air on a talk show is the way to do it. But that's just my humble opinion….

    • Six Degrees really is a lot of fun! You should try it out. Every first Saturday of the month is dedicated to Six Degrees and since I've started blogging again, I haven't missed a single one. That's how much fun it is!

  3. I either do nothing but read or can't read at all when stressed – there's no in between! I want a One Bar now! Elza does a fabulous job with with top ten lists so you can offload that task to her! Hope you're having a great week!

    • Hi Katherine! I am going to tell her that you think she does an excellent job. She's going to love it! I can read when I'm stressed, but not when I'm unhappy. Strange how it works. But I can't write at all when my stress levels are too high. The creative juices does dry up.

Next week is holidays and then all will be better for a couple of weeks!

  4. I'm with you that most of the world makes candy better than they do in the US, boohoo! Still missing the original Cadbury's plus the Hershey's that my husband brought over from Malaysia tasted delicious!

Hope this week goes better – sometimes there's just too much going on.

    • Hi Athira! Oh we still have the most delicious Cadbury chocolates here in SA. Not all things are great in Africa, but at least the chocolates are!

Things will go better as soon as the holiday hits and that will be in a week's time. Whoo hoo!!!

  5. I used to love Bar One as a kid. More than Mars and other chocolates in the market. Had completely forgotten about it, haha.
Look forward to your review of Coben's work. Keep up the great reading!
    ~ Lex

    • Hi Lex! You know Bar Ones?? YEAAA!! You are so one of my favorite people ever. I think I must make a post on all the lovely things you can make with bar ones…

I hope to finish Tell No One later today and will give an update as soon as I can!

  6. "Just better. " 🙂

Secret Book Club looks good! And ooh Moriarty! I love her stuff. I think I've read that one…

    Be well this week!

    • Hi Greg! Yes, it really is just a bit better. I think I will most probably start my holidays with the Liane Moriarty. Always a good kick off. Next weekend….

  7. Stress. So much of it right now. Glad you are able to focus on reading when the stress gets to be too much. I end up eating too much sugar and bingeing all the documentaries.

The Ice Swan is pretty. I hope that's as good at its cover! I hope things slow down and get less stressful this week.

    • Hi Heather! We have holidays in a week's time, then life will start calming down. It's really been one thing on top of the other the past couple of weeks. I also tend to want to go for sugar and especially chocolates – as you can see. TV, no. Rather a book!

I hope to get to The Ice Swan soon and then I can tell you all more about it.

  8. I'm going to be reviewing the Elizabeth Pantley books and they look so good. Books are the best stress reliever ever! I hope you enjoy your books. Have a great week!

  9. I had to look up what a Mars Bar was because while "Mars" is familiar as a candy brand name, I didn't know what a Mars Bar itself was. Sounds kind of like a Snickers or a Milky Way.

I love the cover of The Ice Swan. Speaking of covers, Tall Tails looks so cute. That cover makes it irresistible. I hope you enjoy all your new books, Mareli. Have a great week!

    • Hi there! Snickers might almost, almost come close. But it's still not quite a Bar-One! A Milky Way in South Africa is white chocolate slab. A milk bar.

I also liked the cover for The Ice Swan and can't wait to get reading!

    • I also haven't started with it yet, but next weekend it is holidays and I will hopefully then have lots more time for reading and blogging!

    • Hi there Rachel! Rest will come this upcoming weekend. One week to go and then it's holidays. A Bar-One is the ultimate chocolate, once you've tasted it, you will never want to eat another chocolate!

    • Hi Molly! We had a BOTM here in SA for a very short while, and then it stopped again. *sigh* So not fair. I think Death Island is going to be a fun read yes!!

    • The Meghan and Harry thing became a real soap Oprah. I honestly don't really care who's right or wrong, that's not the way to do it!

  10. Yeah I feel a bit sad about the whole sordid Meaghan/Harry vs. Palace storm. I'm not sure I care to watch that interview. It seems you have a lot of pages to read for Book Club … those are long reads. Wishing you luck with all of them and making it to the holidays. Enjoy.

    • I choose those thick ones especially for this month as the holidays are coming up in a week's time and then I only want to lie low and read. And blog a bit more. Oh and do some mosaic too…!

*sigh* – The Harry Meghan thing sure did turn into a circus of note. So damn sad.

  11. Bar One is better than a Mars bar?! Sign me up. It's funny that you compared it to a Mars bar because I always say a Mars bar is a better version of the American Milky Way. 🙂

    • Hi Helen! In South Africa, a Milky Way is a pure white chocolate slab. Strange how it can differ! And yes, a Bar-One is the best chocolate on the planet. No jokes. South Africans like their sweets in excess. Like most things, so you can trust me!

  12. So glad you were able to make it this week, Mareli. Believe you me, I know what it's like to be stressed but, for me, stress shuts down my reading. I think it's lovely to acquire books. You can always set them aside for the future.

    Tell No One looks fabulous.

I'm on the waiting list for The Four Winds. I think I'm #1,877,643 or thereabouts.

    • Hi Debbie!! So so sorry for only replying so late. I haven't opened the blog this whole week. Was a bit crazy.

My reading don't shut down when I'm stressed, in fact – I might read a tad more as it provides the best possible escapes. But my creativity sure does a nose dive and I can't write at all. Luckily the holidays are right around the corner and I can breath a bit again.

Tell no one is FABULOUS yes!! Hope to finish it later today!

I will try to start with The Four Winds next weekend. Won't have time this week.
