The Sunday Post #42

Posted July 11, 2021 by elzaread in The Sunday Post / 38 Comments

Hi there you guys! Oh how we’ve missed you!! I’m sure the feeling is mutual. So what have you all been up to?

We’ve been on holidays for the passed 2 weeks, but it’s not as if it’s been very relaxing. Exciting, messy, tiring, creative and clueless, are all better descriptions. We’ve been sorting out cupboards and bookshelves from sunup to sundown. It’s been one heck of a job, but as you can see, we are almost almost done. All our novels and story books are nicely stored away in utter anticipation for the renovations that will land us our very own little library.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed as well, we’ve been rather absent from the blogosphere for the last fortnight. So sorry about that, but we really were rather occupied. As from last week, South Africa is also back on level 4 lockdown. The DELTA strain is causing complete havoc here and the situation is currently dreadful as CNN reports on DELTA outbreak in SA. Vaccine rollouts are still very slow as well and registration for the vaccine is a bit of joke. Apparently a first grader should be able to do it, but you need a doctorate to actually get registered.

It truly was only a stroke of luck that my Mommy and her work colleagues got their vaccines on Wednesday. I am just ever so grateful that she did get it. It makes me sleep a bit better in the mornings when everyone else are off to work and play. Our bed doesn’t get made before at least 11:00 as I only go snuggle in at around 06:30 in the mornings.

My Mommy had the average headache and body ache that is being experienced across the globe. On Thursday she decided to take it easy and and maybe blog a bit. What a dreadful surprise it was to realize that Blogger once again, had an update. Or at least, I guess that’s what caused the distortion of all our graphics. Yes, we did plan on raging and raving about it, but you know what, we’ve decided that no. No use in flogging a dead horse. We are just plain and simply done. As soon as we get our ducks in a row, we will be switching platforms. Not all that sure about WordPress either. Perhaps Wix with our own domain. We need to do some homework and tips and advice will be welcome here.

Just out of curiosity sake – does anyone ever benefit from the Blogger updates? Have you ever felt that your site is now better after clicking that update button?

We haven’t read much over the last two weeks, but we need to change that. We did manage to fill our Library Card July 2021, but it will be highly advisable to get a move on with it.

Currently Reading

Daddy has been at home mostly the last 2 weeks as well, so I’ve watched lots of Netflix and YouTube with him. Our favorites were definitely these two:
We do promise to try our best to be back in action over the next couple of days. My Mommy only has one week of holidays left and we do plan on taking at least half of every day over the next week just for reading and blogging.

What’s new in your life? Exactly how did the Blogger update benefit you? We would love to know!

Wishing all of you, and our lovely hosts, a wonderful week ahead!

Lots of Love,

  1. Your pictures are lovely – I think it's every readers' dream to have a library.
I've also had the vaccination now and it definitely makes you relax a little bit – although not completely.
WordPress also made changes a while ago and I didn't love them tbh. It just seems to be a process of getting used to everything all over again and for no particular benefit – so posts that were relatively easy are now an absolute nuisance.
    Lynn 😀

  2. It sure sounds like you've been busy during your vacation. Your new bookshelves look great. I am sorry to hear about all the unrest there. I am glad to hear you managed to get your vaccine at least. here the vaccine registration process went smoothly at least, I am now waiting till I can go for my second shot.

As for the blogger update, that does sound unhandy. I am always a bit afraid when I have to update something, no matter what it is for fear of it breaking something. It sure happened to me a few times. I personally like wordpress. I use self hosted wordpress with my own domain. It does still have updates tough and it can break things, so you'll never escape that fully, but I never had an update mess up my graphics from what i remember.

    I hope you'll have a great week!

  3. It is good to hear from you again. I am sorry to hear you are on lockdown again. Sometimes it seems as if this will never end. The cases here are going up here as well. I worry for my daughter who isn't able to be vaccinated.

The renovations have come together nicely from the sound (and look) of it.

I really want to see Sweet Tooth. I am glad to see you enjoyed it.

I am sorry my visit comes so late in the week. It's been so hectic. I hope you have a great weekend and week ahead!

  4. The Delta strain is very infectious, but not unbeatable. Can try storing up oximeter and basic Vitamin C, just in case. And now that you're vaccinated, the risks are much lower — so that's good news. Hang on, it's a tough ride but you can sail past it. 🙂 And your renovations look great, congratulations!!

  5. The redecorating looks wonderful, great job!

I am so glad you got a vaccination. Once you are fully done you'll feel so good. I hope the numbers imporove.

  6. Oh wow! I'm SO impressed by your renovations – didn't you do well??? And so very relieved that you have managed to get your vaccination! Not only can Covid be very unpleasant – being stuck in Long Covidland is utterly miserable, and you don't have to be hospitalised to get it, either… And while I'm not on Blogger, I've now become used to the block editor version of WordPress, but I won't deny that it has its quirks. I hope the coming week is a bit easier – you deserve it after all your hard work!

    • I have a collected library between myself, my parents and my aunt. Even a couple of my grandfather!

One day I guess we won't have space anymore and I'll also start giving them away.

  7. Your bookshelves look wonderful. Great job! I haven't really noticed anything different with Blogger this week. The last update was annoying, but I've just decided to live with it for now. Mainly because I'm too lazy to switch, although I do have a WordPress account. I still may go over there. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

    Have a great week!

    • Hi there Yvonne! The problem with the latest update is that it threw my graphics haywire and I had to make a new blog header and post headers. It takes hours….
For now, most of the decorating and packing is done. Now we just wait for the renovations!

  8. Such a relief to get your vaccination! I didn't have too many side effects from the first one and with the 2nd one gave me a really sore arm for a few hours and the next day I felt pretty tired which gave me a pretty good excuse to lie around all day and listen to audio books so I wasn't complaining! The home organization project looks exhausting but definitely worth it! Have a great week!

    • Hi there Katherine! I got the J&J vaccine, so I don't need to get a second one. Yea! My sister had the Pfizer one and struggled a bit with side effects. My husband is going on Monday, let's see what he says!

  9. Congrats on getting vaccinated, and the home organization improvements look awesome. I’m irritated at Blogger, but I’ve been using it for 8 years and would need to hire someone to switch all my stuff over to a new platform. That sounds expensive and daunting.

Aj @ Read All The Things!

    • Hi there AJ! I hear you, I've only been back on blogger for around a year and in this year I still haven't imported all my posts from my previous blog. It just takes tooooo long. I'll see what I can do when I have a bit more time.

Hope you had a good week!

  10. So glad to hear you were able to get vaccinated. The experts keep saying the current vaccine is effective against Delta, so hopefully the threat will go down as more people get their shots. I love your bookshelf project!

    • We got the J&J vaccine and I hope it provides enough coverage. Is that what you actually call it?

I'm finally done with all my home projects and I'm quite happy with the end result.

  11. Oh wow you've been busy! Love the pics, it looks so nice.

I didn't even know about the Blogger update. what did they do NOW? I'll be honest, my behind the scenes/ blog stuff has been a disaster since they switched us over those months ago. I have trouble making posts and I'd love to switch platforms, but I hear things about WordPress too. If you have any recs let me know!

I keep hearing about Sweet Tooth. Should I be watching????

    • Hi Greg! So Sorry for the late reply! I still don't know what Blogger did, but it pissed me off a bit. So I'm not even trying anymore!

School starts again on Monday here with us, so I don't really have time to make a plan now, but as soon as I have a bit of time, I will start researching a bit more.

YES!! You should definitely watch Sweet Tooth!!!

  12. Sorry to hear about the vaccine situation but glad you got yours! And the booksehlves are turning out beautifully, I'd looove an under stairs book nook like that. I assume the Blogger updates are usually for security purposes, not sure why that'd mess up your graphics but that's often the purpose.

    • I also love my under the stairs book nook! It was kind of there, but it was a complete mess. Love the difference a coat of paint can do.

I didn't think about the security updates, I guess that makes sense. No idea why it messes with the graphics, but it does and it takes hours to get everything fixed up again. Ai tog.

  13. Everything looks great. I love bookshelves. I am glad your mom got her vaccine. I got the Johnson and Johnson back in March. I was sick that night with fever, chills and a headache, but better by morning.

  14. So glad you were able to get your vaccine finally. I know Delta strain has been causing all sorts of major issues everywhere. And I love those bookshelves!
As for blog sites, you might want to look at using WordPress.org (not.com) with a self-hosting situation. It’s very affordable and has many pluses. I know a lot of people who love it.

    • Hi Tessa! It really is a relief to have it done. I can't wait for the final shelves, it's going to be awesome.

I've heard good things about WordPress.org – will take a look a bit. Thanks for the advice!

    • Hi Megan! Thank you! Still a bit to do here, but I am looking forward to the end product.

Thanks for visiting our blog, we feel honoured!

  15. Your renovations look great! It's nice having a library in your house. I had two rooms filled with books where I used to live. But I moved to a much smaller house so I had to give away a ton of books and audio cd's. Now I have a lot less books and keep them all in my bedroom and some in the living room, but that's ok.

I left Blogger years ago and now have a self hosted WordPress. I'm happy with it.

I hope you have a great week!

    • Hi Vicki! I grew up in a house filled with book and my aunt was also a big reader. Now both my parents and my aunt have passed away and I sit with all the books! So I had to make a plan. Not completely done with everything, but we are getting there and I'm quite excited for the end product.

I'm still doing my homework here and just want to make the right decision here.

      Thanks for the advice!

  16. We've got a the Delta strain taking over here in my state in the US too. But they haven't really put any restrictions back yet. I was lucky enough to get the vaccine back in February as soon as my school district offered it to the employees. It's so much fun working on the room where you're keeping your books! Looks great!

I switched over to WordPress about a year and a half ago, but I went with someone who helps me keep it all working right, and it is on her server. I pay her $20 a month for it, and for me to just be able to spend my time blogging, I'm happy. And she's great about when I reach out with any questions. Good luck with whatever you decide! At some point I should probably completely close out my blogger account I guess.

    • Hi there Lisa! I do believe that will have to be my best option. Just get someone who can do the hosting and everything for me. I'm doing my homework here!

It's absolute chaos here in SA at the moment. Dreadful beyond words. We can definitely do with lots of prayers and thoughts.

      Thanks for stopping by!

  17. Wow, your organization is amazing. Well done! And I'm so glad you were able to get the vaccine, I know when we all got ours, we just felt so much more at ease.

    • That's very true Wendy. One does really feel more at ease for sure.

Thanks for the compliment! Now the trick is to keep it like that!

  18. I'm so glad you were able to get the vaccine, Mareli. Two more of my friends who refused to get vaccinated got Covid in the last couple of weeks, and both of them ended up in the hospital. It's very sad to see people perpetuate this sickness by their refusal to get the vaccine.

Your renovations are lovely. I bet it was hard work, but fun.

I have never felt like the Blogger updates made things better! This is my thirteenth year on Blogger. I'm running out of space for my graphics, so that may help make my decision to change venues.

    • Hi Debbie! The vaccine rollout is already so dreadfully slow here in SA and then there are still a large percentage of the people who refuse to get the vaccine. I'm actually just a bit gatvol at the moment. (Gatvol means fed up in Afrikaans).

I also love the renovations so far! Think everything is going to look so nice when all is done. Can't wait!

I'll start doing homework on the platform front and keep you updated if I find a better solution…

  19. So pleased to hear you are eventually getting the vaccine, I hope things improve in SA soon.
Your new library is stunning – well worth all that hard work!
I moved from Blogger to WordPress – just the free version – and updates on here don't seem to cause as much of an issue, though I'm not sure how the paid versions fare.

    Have a great week.

    • Hi there Louise! I can't wait for everything to be done completely, but that will still take a couple of months. But so far,so good!
I'll start doing a bit of homework this week regarding the different platforms and then make a decision from there. Thanks for the advice!

Hope you will have a good week ahead!
