Friday Fives #10 – 5 Books my Students are Trying to get me to Read

Friday Fives #10 – 5 Books my Students are Trying to get me to Read

Greetings you guys! Can you believe that it’s September already and I haven’t done a Friday Fives this whole year. Jeeeez….. Fridays are usually crazy and my Mommy is always trying to leave school as fast as possible to get home and start the weekend. It doesn’t always work out that way though. Now we first need to remember what Friday Fives are all about…. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. It’s hosted by Kathryn @ The Book Date. Talking about school – as the school’s librarian, my Mommy loves recommending books to the kids and to see just how much they love reading. But every now and then, the kids will actually recommend a book or two for her to read as well. Sometimes she does read it and sometimes she pretends she has…. Other times, they land on her TBR and we hope to get to them soon. Here are five of the latter ones. Fable (Fable #1) by Adrienne Young – For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is […]

Friday Fives #9 – 5 Ha-ha-ha books for the Ho-ho-ho Readathon

Friday Fives #9 – 5 Ha-ha-ha books for the Ho-ho-ho Readathon

Is it too early to start our post with ho ho ho? Maybe just a tad. But it’s not too early for the Ho-ho-ho Readathon that officially kicked off yesterday. Of course we are going to take part and having some fun with Friday Fives is the ideal opportunity. Connect Five is hosted by The Book Date and the idea is to connect 5 books in some or other fun way. Theme, covers, authors, genres – you name in. Although we love the Christmas season, we don’t normally get into the Christmas Spirit before school hasn’t closed. With two more weeks to go, I think my Mommy needs some Christmas cheers and and a few good laughs. So why not combine the two? She’s made a whole list of Christmassy books to read for the next 12 days and the following 5 are all good for a laugh too. Politically Correct Holiday Stories by James Finn Garner – Whether your favorite holiday story is A Christmas Carol, The Story of Hanukkah, or ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, you’ll find it transformed to reflect current sensibilities in Politically Correct Holiday Stories. Injecting our popular holiday fables with a modern perspective is no easy task, but someone had […]

Friday Fives #8 – Five essentials for your Cozy Murder Mystery Kit

Friday Fives #8 – Five essentials for your Cozy Murder Mystery Kit

Greetings! It’s Friday and this week has been cold and miserable all the way through. Time to have some fun and Friday Fives is the ideal opportunity. Connect Five is hosted by The Book Date and the idea is to connect 5 books in some or other fun way. Theme, covers, authors, genres – you name in. For today, we will tweak the idea a bit and instead of linking five books, we are going to show you how you can build your very own Cozy Murder Mystery kit with 5 essentials. If you can combine these five elements and have a good murder in mind, you can write the next best seller! 1. A small town / Seaside Town / The Countryside The ideal setting for a Cozy Murder Mystery, is key. Everybody has to know each other. Your amateur sleuth, who will of course be the crime solver extraordinaire and the main character for the rest of your series, is also not allowed to be a complete stranger. She has to be a long lost relative, or the beneficiary of a forgotten will at least.   2. An Inheritance   Your sleuth has to end up in Little Town for […]

Friday Fives #7 – Five Ballet themed books we still want to read

Friday Fives #7 – Five Ballet themed books we still want to read

Greetings! It’s Friday afternoon and we haven’t done a Friday Fives post in months. Mostly because we just couldn’t think of 5 things we want to talk about. Or wait no, 5 bookish things to talk about. And we’ve been a bit busy too. Still hate it when reality interferes with our bookish lives. My Mommy finished the most beautiful book this week. It was all about a Russian Princess (who looked just like me) and her family who had to flee Russia in The Great War. You can read our review on The Ice Swan here. The beautiful princess’ stress release and favorite part time hobby, was what prompted our idea for today’s Friday Fives: Five Ballet themed books we still want to read   My Mommy attends a ballet class twice a week and although she’s not the most gracious dancer and perhaps a bit long in the tooth for it already, it’s an art form she absolutely adores. I wish someone would start a ballet class for cats, then all of us would-be Caterinnas can show off our amazing ballet skills. Mirko, the Ballet cat Choosing 5 Ballet themed books, wasn’t quite as easy as a pas-de-chat (that […]

Friday Fives #6 – Baby it’s cold outside

Friday Fives #6 – Baby it’s cold outside

Greetings you guys! It’s Friday and this week was a bit topsy turvy. Mommy and Daddy was away for a long weekend and Wednesday was a public holiday. Although Thursday and today has been enough for a whole week! Luckily it’s time for the weekend and to get reading a bit. I don’t think we are going to feel like doing anything else. It’s cold and raining out there and I guess winter is here to stay. We are not going to do a lot of link-ups today, just Connect Five and Friendly Fill-ins. Let’s start with Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy – just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. Sticking with the cold weather out there, let’s link books with ice or snow. Proudly brought to you by the gorgeous snow queen I was named after. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey – Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart – he breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she crumbling from loneliness and despair. In […]

Friday Fives #5 with Book Blogger Hop and Friendly Fill-Ins

Friday Fives #5 with Book Blogger Hop and Friendly Fill-Ins

Greetings Humans! Yes, yes – I know it’s Saturday already and we are a bit late for a Friday post. But yesterday was dreadfully cold and rainy, so when my Mommy came home from school, we just snuggled up with a book. Until she had to be back at school. They had a fun-run this morning and she had to be at school at before the crack of dawn. We are still going to link up with Friday Fives and Book Blogger Hop and then we want to join a new weekly meme today. Because cats. No other reason is necessary. For our firs link today, we link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy – just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. As you know, my Mommy is a teacher/librarian and this week Mommy decided to show you the five series’ that are the most popular at school:   1. Basically any of the series or by Enid Blyton. Famous Five, Secret Seven, Amelia Jane. All of them are still very popular. The same with Roald Dahl. Not a series no, but still […]

Friday Fives #4 – 5 Review copies we hope to read soon

Friday Fives #4 – 5 Review copies we hope to read soon

Greetings! My Mommy is officially on holidays and the last time we had time to do a Friday Fives, was the first Friday of the term. It was a hectic term and my Mommy sure needs a bit of a break!  Of course she is going to spend just about the whole holidays reading and sorting out her books. Especially the review copies. We do try to keep review copies at a bare minimum, but some books can be so tempting that you just can’t resist requesting them. And then there’s the author’s and publishers who always ask ever so nicely for a fair and honest review and you really imagine them looking at you like this: I’ve also perfected that look and I know that my Mommy really can’t say no to those begging eyes. So keep on sending those review copies, between you and me, we’ll get her to review it. Just to keep us a bit organized as well, today’s Friday Fives will be  Five review copies we hope to read within the next couple of weeks.  As always, we link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books […]

Friday Fives #3 – 5 Places we want to visit because the book told us to

Friday Fives #3 – 5 Places we want to visit because the book told us to

Greetings! It’s the first Friday after school has opened for my Mommy and I really do hope she is going to make this snappy. I’ve missed her terribly this week and she needs to come and snuggle on the couch now. It’s good to have some sense of normality again, but the one thing my Mommy says she still misses dreadfully, is travelling. Not that they’ve travelled all that much before the whole world closed, it’s just the idea that you can travel to far off exotic destinations. So todays Friday Fives will be:    Five places my Mommy wants to travel to, because of a book.  As always, we link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. My Mommy has never been to Britain, but it’s one of her greatest wishes to go visit the Queen’s Country. Of course a trip to Guernsey will have to form part of the itinerary. The inspiration of course comes from: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer “I wonder how the book […]

Friday Fives #2 – 5 Books we urgently need to read to make space on the TBR shelf

Friday Fives #2 – 5 Books we urgently need to read to make space on the TBR shelf

Greetings humans! It’s Friday afternoon and my Mommy still want to stop by the Book Shop before she goes home. I am not impressed with that at all. Her TBR has lost control again over the last couple of weeks. She really shouldn’t be adding more books to it AT ALL. She reached the 500 books-allowed-on -the-TBR-shelf deadline earlier this week. So today’s Friday Fives will be about: Five books my Mommy need to read urgently to make space on the TBR shelf.  She will thus link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. The following five books are on my Mommy’s book shelve, not even on the Kindle where books sometimes do get “lost”, physically. Right there. Just take it off the shelf and start reading! Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl – Number 431. It’s only going to take her about an hour or two to read it and it can go towards her Alphabet Challenge for this year. Fantastic Mr. Fox is on the run! The three meanest farmers around are out to get […]

Friday Fives #1 – Our 5 Favorite Elephant Books

Friday Fives #1 – Our 5 Favorite Elephant Books

Greetings humans! It’s Friday afternoon and after a long week, all my Mommy wants to do is hop on the couch and start reading. I told her we first need to connect to you guys so that she can just get in a bit of a better mood. I do this for my own well-being you know. Seeing that she doesn’t know what to read yet, we’ve decided to do our first Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Mommy’s been eying this for quite some time, but Fridays are usually just hectic and we hardly open the computer on Fridays. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. Well, I hope I understand it correctly… I’m sure the lovely Kathryn will quickly guide me in the nicest possible way if we are having the cat by the tail today. It’s been more than a month since Mommy and Daddy had been on holiday and went walking with the elephants. After the numerous posts that she shared after their holidays, I’ve told you that it won’t be the last of the elephants. For today, […]
