It’s only cute if you aren’t the director who’s being bribed to cast his daughter. DEAR MS. CROSS, Re: Our discussion 1. True. Casting my daughter as the lead in your musical could be considered bribery if people find out I’m investing in it, but no one needs to know. 2. I only want to hire you as Macy’s singing coach so her vocal skills will improve. 3. Maybe if you’d spent less time surfing and more on your singing career, you wouldn’t be in this financial predicament. 4. Re. your living situation—my neighbor has a guest house. If you cast Macy as Alice, I will pay for your first three months’ rent. Do we have a deal? Best regards, Miles Brodie DEAR MR. BRODIE, 1. It absolutely is bribery, but I absolutely need that money for my production. Thanks! 2. It is very cute that you will do anything to get Macy this part, but […]

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill

The Woman in the Library by Sulari Gentill on June 7th, 2022 Genres: Mystery, Suspense, Thriller Pages: 288 Format: ARC Source: Netgalley Buy on Amazon Goodreads “The beautifully ornate reading room at the Boston Public Library is completely silent one weekday morning, until a woman’s terrified scream echoes through the room. Security guards immediately appear and instruct everyone inside to stay put until they determine there is no threat. While they wait for the all-clear, four strangers who had been sitting in the reading room get to chatting and quickly become friendly. Harriet, Marigold, Whit, and Caine each have their own reasons for being in the reading room that morning–and it just happens that one of them may turn out to be a murderer. For readers of Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore, with shades of The Secret History, THE WOMAN IN THE LIBRARY is an unexpectedly twisty literary adventure that examines the complicated nature of friendship and shows us that words can be the most dangerous weapons of all” When was the last time you’ve just finished a book and your first thought is, I should read this again… What a thrilling read this was and I can honestly say […]

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Apothecary

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Apothecary

Greetings you guys! I can’t believe it’s only been two weeks since our last Wondrous Words Wednesday. It feels like ages! Perhaps it’s because my Mommy was on holiday and I missed her so much for the week they were gone. Luckily she is home safe and things are falling back into our weekly rhythm again. As you know, Wondrous Words Wednesday is hosted right here on Elza Reads and the concept is as easy as pie. All you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here. There is a Mr. Linky attached at the bottom of this post if you’d like to make your own post and add your link. Our Wondrous Word for today, is chosen for the plain and simple reason that my Mommy can’t pronounce this word to safe her life. And if she can’t pronounce a word, you bet she can’t spell it either. As most of the followers of this blog are big readers, I’m sure you […]

Ten Quotes from probably the Greatest Detective in the World

Greetings you guys! We haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday post in 3 weeks. First I had my tail in a knot and then Mommy were on holidays. We’ve done a TTT on our favorite quotes from books (that can be updated I guess), but we didn’t feel like it. Nope, we would rather go with a few memorable quotes from probably the greatest detective in the world. Ever. I guess we should have added what books these quotes come from… Let’s make it a guessing game! We have tried to add photos from the movies to a few of these quotes, see how many you can match! Are you a fan of the greatest detective in the world? Have a wonderful Tuesday!

The Sunday Post #72

The Sunday Post #72

Greetings you guys! Oh how I’ve missed you!! I bet you’ve missed me terribly as well. I haven’t spoken to you guys in 3 whole weeks. Two weeks ago, my Mommy had to do The Sunday Post as I had my tail in a knot and refused to talk to her or Daddy for days. I honestly thought it would work and they would just give in and come begging for attention. But do you know what they did??? They packed and went on holiday. Can you believe that! I have to be honest, I got the fright of my life and thought they might never come back. Luckily they did and I will never, ever behave like the spoiled brat I am, again. They said they had a wonderful time in Mauritius. They brought us all some lovely presents and they enjoyed the island life tremendously. My Mommy says the only thing that she didn’t like, is all the stray animals. Cats and dogs alike. I guess I should really start counting my blessings a bit more… Here’s a few fun pics of their holiday! I don’t need to tell you that she didn’t have a lot of time […]

Hi there you guys! Mareli here, coming from OR Tambo International airport. In case you didn’t know, that is in Johannesburg, South Africa. My home country. I have a quick few minutes to write a weekend post and have a cup of coffee before we depart for Mauritius. Whoo hoo! Of course my Kindle is fully loaded and I even sneaked an extra book in. Wondrous Words Wednesday – Koeksister

Greetings you guys! It’s Wednesday and time for Wondrous Words Wednesday, a bi-weekly feature hosted by yours truly. One of the words that we chose for our One Meow Reviews Top Ten Tuesday post, was Koeksister. We had so many comments and questions about this word, that we’ve decided to use it for our Wondrous Word for this week. If you’ve ever been to South Africa, the chances are very high that you’ve come across koeksisters. Koeksisters is by far my Daddy’s favorite confectionary and it’s very typical South African and Afrikaans. Mommy isn’t all that crazy about it, she says it’s way too sweet. Koeksisters are prepared by frying plaited dough strips in oil, then submersing the hot fried dough […]
