Wish you were here by Jodi Picoult Published by Ballantine Books on November 30th, 2021 Genres: Fiction Pages: 336 Format: Paperback Source: Book Club Buy on Amazon Goodreads A deeply moving novel about the resilience of the human spirit in a moment of crisis. Diana O’Toole is perfectly on track. She will be married by thirty, done having kids by thirty-five, and move out to the New York City suburbs, all while climbing the professional ladder in the cutthroat art auction world. She’s not engaged just yet, but she knows her boyfriend, Finn, a surgical resident, is about to propose on their romantic getaway to the Galápagos—days before her thirtieth birthday. Right on time. But then a virus that felt worlds away has appeared in the city, and on the eve of their departure, Finn breaks the news: It’s all hands on deck at the hospital. He has to stay behind. You should still go, he assures her, since it would be a shame for all of their nonrefundable trip to go to waste. And so, reluctantly, she goes. Almost immediately, Diana’s dream vacation goes awry. The Sunday Post #62

The Sunday Post #62

Greetings! How are you all doing? Who wants to talk Agatha Christie? My Mommy has been a bit obsessive the last week or so. Okay, to be fair towards her, she is usually slightly obsessive when it comes to Agatha Christie, but the new Kenneth Branagh’s latest adaptation of Death on the Nile, pushed her over the edge. That’s why we’ve missed our Sunday Post last week. We were too busy drawing comparisons between the different adaptations and the book. If you’ve missed it, you can read our post here – Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie.  I’m trying to think if anything else excited happened over the last 2 weeks. Nothing that I can think of. Renovations are still ongoing, school is still busy, I’m still adorable. Let’s see what happened in our bookish lives. Adding to the litter The Country Club Murders has been on our radar for ages. When the first instalment on Book Bub’s daily deals, we grabbed it immediately. No to get time to read it. Cats in the City of Plague is one of those novellas we stumbled on by pure chance. This sounds lovely and I’m sure we will read it one night this […]

Top Ten Tuesday – Double Trouble

Top Ten Tuesday – Double Trouble

Greetings Humans! It’s Tuesday and time to have some fun with Top Ten Tuesday hosted by Jana @ That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Dynamic Duos and apparently we can interpret that any way we like. Ha. That’s my favorite fun. An occurrence you don’t see all that often in the feline world, is twins. Or in the sense you humans look at twins. Most of us adorable felines are born from a whole litter of kittens and having only one kitten is the exception to the rule. In humans it’s the other way around. So for today’s TTT, we are going to look at twins in books. Fred and George Weasley from the Harry Potter series (who just had to wipe a tear away?) Cersei and Jaime Lannister from Game of Thrones (a relationship that even dogs will thrown upon if you ask me) Viola and Sebastian from Twelfth Night (call us dorky, but we liked the She’s the Man adaptation the most)     Lisa and Lottie from the Parent Trap (never read the book, but we did see both adaptations and loved it) Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum from Alice in Wonderland Mary Kate and Ashley […]

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie

Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie Series: Hercule Poirot #17 on November 1st, 1937 Genres: Mystery Pages: 333 Format: eBook, Paperback Source: My Bookshelf Buy on Amazon Goodreads Agatha Christie’s most daring travel mystery. The tranquility of a lovely cruise along the Nile is shattered by the discovery that Linnet Ridgeway has been shot through the head. She was young, stylish and beautiful, a girl who had everything – until she lost her life. Who’s also on board? Christie’s great detective Hercule Poirot. He recalls an earlier outburst by a fellow passenger: ‘I’d like to put my dear little pistol against her head and just press the trigger.’ Despite the exotic setting, nothing is ever quite what it seems… Some of my fondest childhood memories, is visiting my Granny and my aunt over Summer Holidays and to this day can recall exactly where their vast Agatha Christie Collection was on the shelf. I remember how frightful some of those paperback covers were (why on earth did they ever do that? Did people honestly appealed to those?). Too scared to try to read them, Agatha Christie remained a name on a well-known bookshelf until I was practically an adult. Thankfully […]

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Trifler

Greetings you guys! I can’t believe 2 weeks have passed since we last posted a Wondrous Words Wednesday. Gosh, time is flying like a bat out of hell. As long as we are at least still having fun, I guess we shouldn’t complain too much. Wondrous Words Wednesday is hosted by yours truly. My Mommy is currently reading Triflers Need Not Apply by Camilla Bruce and my Mommy didn’t have a clue what a trifler is. Perfect choice for a Wondrous Words Wednesday. Our trusted friend Merriam Webster, has a bit of a different definition though: a person who lacks experience and competence in an art or science he was never taken seriously as a comic book artist, with most illustrators regarding him as a mere trifler Synonyms for trifler amateur, hack, hacker, inexpert, jackleg Words Related to trifler beginner, freshman, greenhorn, kid, learner, neophyte, newcomer, novice, rookie, tenderfoot, tyro So […]

The Sunday Post #61

The Sunday Post #61

Greetings you guys! Aaah it’s so nice to talk to all of you again. My Mommy and Daddy decided to take an impromptu looooong weekend last week. I’m glad that they had a couple of days of rest and we always love staying with our babysitter. My Mommy was planning on catching up with the blog a bit, but the internet reception wasn’t all that well, so she decided to rather just read, relax and miss me terribly, of course. They came back on Monday morning and the rest of this week has been just a bit crazy and busy. I’ve decided that I think it’s time for me to hijack my Mommy’s diary and to start slotting specific times for blogging in her day. Otherwise, she will always remain stuck at school and being distracted with school stuff. Any of you teachers or retired teachers have the same problem? Adding to the litter Speaking about problems, my Mommy really has a book buying problem. I’ve got no idea when she thinks she’s going to read all the books she has. But I know buying books on special or getting second hand copies for basically a steal, is hard to […]

Library Card February 2022

Library Card February 2022

Greetings you guys! Just before the month drops to double digits, let’s quickly see what is on our Library Card for February. Oh wait, I guess I quickly need to update our January one! Okay, all done – Library Card January 2022. Book Club These are always our perfect and favorite picks for the month. My Mommy loves the Book Club, such a lovely diverse group of women together. State of the ARC Inspired by so many of you for using those lovely spreadsheets and monthly planners, my Mommy started using a diary this year that provides all that and she actually uses it! A pity that she’s left it at home and has no clue what is waiting for her on the ARC schedule. Except for this one: Yes! It’s the fifth instalment of Destiny Falls and we believe it’s the best one yet! About 80% done with it already and will have our review up over the weekend. Publication day is tomorrow. We promise to update the other ARC’s as soon as we are reunited with the daily planner. The Pigeonhole Strange for a cat to be so fascinated with the habitat of a bird, don’t you think. […]
