The Sunday Post #53

The Sunday Post #53

Happy Halloween you guys! Gosh, I’m proud of myself. I didn’t hide away at all over the frightening month of October. I stayed cool, calm and collected and only slipped away last night when Mommy and Daddy were watching Things Heard and Seen. Extra nibbles for me! How was your October month? November is a breath away and then we can all start thinking about Christmas and my Mommy needs to start planning how to keep me out of the Christmas tree. How was your passed week? Ours were terribly busy as my Mommy had a fun Book Day at school on Friday and you know things like that don’t just happen by themselves! She asked the local Book Shop to come and set up shop at school and negotiated for some serious discounted prices. It was a marvelous success and everyone had loads of fun. The kids (and staff) could dress up as their favorite bookish characters and the creativity was amazing! My Mommy received stacks of new books for the library and she should actually be going to school to go and put it on the system. Only problem is that she came home on Friday with the […]

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Fright vs Freight

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Fright vs Freight

Greetings Humans! Welcome to another week of Wondrous Words Wednesday, hosted by yours truly. Wondrous Words Wednesday is a biweekly meme hosted by yours truly. The concept is fairly easy – all you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here. As you know, my Mommy is a librarian and a language teacher. You can imagine all the funny things she comes across on a daily basis. In South Africa, there are 11 (nope, not a typing error – really eleven) official languages. My Mommy’s native tongue is Afrikaans and about 50% of her students speak Afrikaans first language as well. It’s not wonder that the kids sometimes get confused with certain words. Like these 2: One of the spell words my Mommy did with her students this week, was freight, but about 80% of her students read and interpret the word as fright. The best way she figured to explain to them, is through sentences: The cost of the freight, gave me such […]

Ten Pets you can get at Stephen King’s Pet Shop

Ten Pets you can get at Stephen King’s Pet Shop

Greetings! It’s Tuesday and thus time for everyone’s – humans, felines, canines and magical creatures’ – favorite weekly meme, Top Ten Tuesday. This week’s theme is Halloween Freebie. Having a freebie is always loads of fun and you can let your imagination run wild! Or tame it down a bit and and open your own Pet Shop. For our freebie today, we would like to invite you to Stephen King’s Pet Shop. Anyone who has ever read Stephen King’s novels, will know that he loves to bring household pets, especially cats, into his stories. Sometimes they don’t sit, stay, roll over, or play dead as we would like our domestic animals to do. But just like your household pets, they always bring hours of entertainment. So without any further ado, I present Stephen King’s favorite pets to you: Azreal. Of course I’m going to start my list with a cat. Although Azreal is beautiful with a lovely, calm demeanor, I would jump out of bed and run for the hills when he comes to settle on your bed. You can read more about Azreal in Doctor Sleep.  Cujo. Please do remember when you buy a puppy, not all of them remain cute little lapdogs. […]

Fraterfest Readathon 2021

Fraterfest Readathon 2021

And so we come to the end of another Fraterfest Readathon (sounds as if we’ve been doing it for years, it’s only our second year). I guess there are still a couple of hours to go, but the chances of us finishing our last book, is rather slim. My Mommy still has some school work to do and she wants to get some blogging in as well tonight. I think we did quite well! The best part of all, I didn’t need to call my big brother, Stinkie in at all. Ha. Not such a scaridy cat after all. *Elza should mention that most of your Fraterfest picks for this year, weren’t actually scary at all.  Here’s our final tally: Kindle: Home Before Dark by Riley Sager (402p); Boats and Bad Guys by Diana Xarissa (about 50% done of 230p) = 520 pages Paperback: The Trials of Morrigan Crow, Nevermoor #1 by Jessica Townsend (465p); Gobbolino the Witch’s Cat by Ursula Moray Williams (245p) = 710 pages Audiobook: City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab (5 hours, 2 min – 272p) = 272 pages Grand Total: 4.5 Books, 1502 pages. Favorites: Mommy = The Trials of Morrigan Crow Elza = Gobbolino the Witch’s Cat We’ve enjoyed all our […]

The Sunday Post #52

The Sunday Post #52

Greetings Humans! Spring once again decided to allude us the last 2 two days. It’s cold and rainy and miserable out there. Perfect weather for Fraterfest 2021. How’s your Fraterfest Read-a-thon going? We are having loads of fun with one book, one bag of speckled eggs, one packet of mini cupcakes and 3 cups of hot chocolate done. How was your week? School and Ballet classes started with a bang on Monday and we didn’t do much more this week than trying to get back into rhythm. It is good to be back yes, but my Mommy’s nerves are wrecked. The last term of the year is terribly short and there are heaps of work that still need to be cramped in. If I was her, I would have just thrown in the towel now and read the remainder of the year. Next year she can try again. Adding to the litter We got two books for review this week. Two completely different books, but that’s the way we like it. The Dangerous Promise by Merryn Allingham is just my Mommy’s cup of tea. Best part of all, it’s the first in a series. Little Wanderers: The Everlasting Seasons is […]

Weekend Book Friends #23

Weekend Book Friends #23

It’s Friday afternoon and Fraterfest 2021 is about to start here in our house. Yea! Yes, I know I am actually a real scaridy cat when it comes to spooky reads, but I will be okay if I can snuggle with my Mommy for the first one or two reads. After that, I will go and hide under the covers and leave my Mommy all alone for her scary reads. Our first pick for this year’s readathon, is a book my Mommy bought for the kids at school and it doesn’t seem scary at all. Just enough “hoo hoo” vibes to qualify for Fraterfest.  Of course we can’t start our weekend before we haven’t popped in with a few friends to share our weekend reads. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Hashtags are the one thing I do know on social media, so simply #bookbeginnings so we can find each other. The trials of Morrigan Crow opens with the […]

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Specter

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Specter

Greetings you guys! Just a quick Wondrous Words Wednesday from us today. With the whole migration, we obviously had a bit of a time-lapse as well. Can’t quite figure out if we went forwards or backwards, but last week wasn’t actually our slot for Wondrous Words Wednesday. Luckily we have loyal patrons like Debbie @ Readerbuzz who can keep us on track. My Mommy is busy preparing for Fraterfest Read-a-Thon 2021 that is kicking off this Friday. We love the Fraterfest and think we did quite well last year. As you can recall, Stinkie was our host author. I’m not even ashamed to say that I don’t like things that go bump in the night. I’m sure he will host again this year as the situation with night time bumbs have not changed for […]

The Sunday Post #51

The Sunday Post #51

Greetings you Guys! How are you all on this gorgeous Sunday? My apologies for being absent for the last two weeks, but as you can see, it was well worth it. Welcome to ElzaReads.com!!! I know, I know, it’s fabulous. Of course it’s all my ideas and craftiness. Okay, that’s stretching the truth a bit far. Even for a cat. As we’ve told you 3 weeks ago, we’ve decided to migrate to WordPress and to ask the lovely Ashley @ Nosegraze if we can please host with her. (I have no idea what she looks like, but she has to be pretty and I’m sure she has a gorgeous cat as well) That was one of the best decisions we have ever made. Ashley took care of about 80% of everything you currently see and the rest was done by me. Okay, what’s wrong with me today. I just can’t seem to pull off a lie. No, it wasn’t me. But it wasn’t Mommy either. So there. My Mommy has this beautiful colleague that she works with (I do know what she looks like and she really is very pretty with the most gorgeous eyes) who is brilliant with computers […]
