Weekend Book Friends #30

Weekend Book Friends #30

Greetings you guys! How was your week? Ours was utterly crazy. But I’ll ramble on about it on Sunday. For now, I just want my Mommy to finish up here so that we can read our book. It’s windy out there, so time for a blanky and a nice cup of tea. What fun we are having with the readalong with a few fellow South African bloggers and Instagrammers. Of course it’s fitting that we are reading a book by a South African author. This book is really sooooo goooood and I can’t wait to be done so that we can tell you all about it. It’s got everything we love in a book: Intrigue; mystery; something/someone that gives us the creeps; humor; a bit of romance…. For now, we will share our Book Beginnings and page 56 excerpts with you. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to @ Reading is my Super Power for First Line Friday and to Gilion @ Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour over the weekend), as well as your initial thoughts and impressions. Wondrous Words Wednesday – Infertile

Wondrous Words Wednesday – Infertile

Greetings you guys! Welcome to another edition of Wondrous Words Wednesday, hosted by yours truly.  The concept of Wondrous Words Wednesday is fairly easy, all you need to do, is share any new (or new to you) words you came across this week and share them with us. You are also welcome to share words you simply want to show off to us. For more on Wondrous Words Wednesday, you can click here. There is a Mr. Linky attached at the bottom of this post if you’d like to make your own post and add your link. Today is one of those days where my Mommy had more than one post scheduled. Earlier today, she took part in a Book Tour for a lovely book dealing with Infertility. We will add our link to the tour post here. Planning for  today’s posts, gave us the inspiration for our Wondrous Word for this week: This week is Infertilely Awareness Week and while my Mommy was writing her blog post, she contemplated why this subject is so well known in our day and age, but so little talked about. Being part of the 10% of women worldwide who struggle with infertility, my Mommy knows […]

Top Ten Tuesday – You know what Bugs me?

Top Ten Tuesday – You know what Bugs me?

Greetings you guys! It’s Tuesday and time for Top Ten Tuesday, hosted by Jana @ That Arsty Reader Girl. Today’s prompt is Books with (whatever) on the cover. Now this can be anything, as long as it’s the same thing on all your covers. That sounds easy enough! Seeing that my Mommy gave me free reign over today’s TTT, I first need to get something off my chest. You know what really bugs me? I constantly bring my Mommy the nicest, cutest bugs that I catch just for her. And you know what she does? She squeals, or so throws them out. She never, ever keeps them. How can she do that? She loves books that has the little buggers on the covers, so why doesn’t she want them as presents from me too? Here are 10 of my Mommy’s favorite books with bugs on the covers: The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle – Okay, I’ve never brought her a caterpillar. We have loads of centipedes here with us. Do they count? Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White – Spiders find their own way in. I don’t have to help them at all. We don’t tend to bother each other much.  Lord of the Flies by William […]

The Sunday Post #69

The Sunday Post #69

Greetings you guys! How was your week? Can you believe we are heading into the last week of April? Good grief! Our week flew by, but it wasn’t all that bad. It’s just dreadfully cold here and my Mommy doesn’t like that. Last week, a few of you asked me about the diamond painting my Mommy so loves to do. There’s nothing much to it, to be honest. If you ask me, I’d say it’s a rather brain-dead exercise. I think that’s exactly what my Mommy likes about it. She doesn’t have to think very hard or concentrate on anything but listening to her audiobook. Just stick those little sparkly dots on the correlating space, listen to your book and wait for the end result. It’s usually worth it! We had a good reading week as well and got some great books in the mail and by clicking away on Amazon’s free books for World Book Day. Adding to the Litter We’ve received a new book for review from Netgalley and our very fist physical book in the mail. Excitement overload! My Mommy will be taking part in a readalong this upcoming week with a few other South African Instagrammers. […]

Arthur and the Argonauts by G.H. Lewis

Arthur and the Argonauts by G.H. Lewis

Arthur and the Argonauts by G.H. Lewis on June 11th, 2022 Genres: Sci-Fi Pages: 380 Format: ARC Source: Reedsy Discovery Buy on Amazon Goodreads Arthur Pifflethorpe fell in love. He fell in love often and he fell in love hard. He fell in love with any pretty girl foolish enough to meet his gaze for an instant longer than necessary. What hope is there for a boy like Arthur, for whom loving comes so much easier than being loved? Perhaps there was none until the day he got the call. Armagast Enterprises had selected its crew for the Argo, and Arthur was among the chosen few. All of humanity had watched as the mysterious spacecraft was born. For a decade or more, rumors over its purpose had swirled as the Argo plied its obit through the night skies, growing in size and brightness with each new fusillade of supply rockets to go roaring skyward. Now they all knew: the Argo was setting off on a multi-generational voyage to colonize the universe. The journey would see the Argonauts—and their children, and their children’s children—drifting through the black void of interstellar space for thousands of years. What future is that for a […]

The Maid opens with a bar of soap and a prologue: I’m your maid. I’m the one who cleans your hotel room, who enters like a phantom when you’re our gallivanting for the day, no care at all about what you’ve left behind, the mess, or what I might see when you’re gone. I’m the one who empties your trash, tossing out the receipts you don’t want anyone to discover. […]

Throwback Thursday #10 – After You

Throwback Thursday #10 – After You

Greetings you guys! Gosh, we haven’t done a Throwback Thursday ever since we’ve switched to WordPress. I honestly can’t give you clear reason for that either. Probably admin. We hate admin and we had to add the new graphic to all the previous posts and make sure the old reviews are on the new blog and …. And that’s the main reason! I’ve realized that we are never going to pull in all the old reviews to our stunning new Ultimate Book Blogger Plug-in if I don’t make a plan around it. So joining in with Throwback Thursday, is our masterplan. The Chocolate Lady’s #Throwback Thursday takes place on the Thursday before the first Saturday of every month. Yes, there is a linky and it will remain open until she uploads the new one. Thank Goodness. My first and last sometimes gets very confused. Your post must highlight one of your previously published book reviews and Davida encourages other participants to do the same. Add the link to your post and remember to link back to The Chocolate Lady’s Book Blog And do not forget to #ThrowbackThursday! It’s  not quite yet the last Thursday of the month, but if we do a […]

The Sunday Post #68

The Sunday Post #68

Greetings you guys! I trust you are all enjoying a wonderful Easter Weekend? My Mommy is terribly upset, her favorite easter eggs are nowhere to be found in our little town. Easter without you easter eggs just don’t feel right at all and something is definitely amiss. So now we spend our time reading, blogging and diamond painting. We had a very good week here on the blogosphere and my Mommy actually deserves those easter eggs. We didn’t even buy any new books or downloaded any for free. We also didn’t get any new ones for review, but that is also okay. We are just starting to gain control over our TBR and ARC lists. The only thing we don’t have control over, are the easter eggs. Scratching the Blog Pole Monday – Book Review: Trouble in Paradise (The Hardy Boys: Undercover Brothers #12) by Franklin W. Dixon. This was the first review written by one of my library students. Thank you for all the encouragement last week and for the support! The kids are so excited about this and I already have a whole stack of reviews to use. Tuesday – Top Ten Tuesday: A Dozen Authors We Still Want to […]
