FraterFest Read-a-thon 2020

Posted October 14, 2020 by elzaread in Readathon / 19 Comments

It’s the month October and that means a large part of the world put on their scary costumes and pull up the pumpkins. The chills and thrills books get dusted and every one remembers they still have a Stephen King or Shirley Jackson book somewhere on the shelf.

As you know, we are from South Africa and Halloween is not a very big event here. You won’t find any houses that appear haunted over night or pumpkin ghosts on any front steps. Trick or Treat is unheard of and completely out of the question. Here you lock yourself behind your high walls and electric fences as soon as the sun sets. No one will dare send their kids outside after dark to go knock on the neighbours door for candy.

That still won’t stop me and my Mommy to enjoy a few scary reads during October. We haven’t really planned any books yet, so I think that the FraterFest read-a-thon hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer, is the perfect opportunity to get a few scream-queens in. If you also want to take part, here are all the rules and stipulations – FraterFest Read-a-thon. If you are interested, you better get your ducks in a row as this kicks off tomorrow at midnight (your own local Time Zone).

My Mommy had a look at a few books on her Kindle and also brought home a few from school today. We are so ready for this! However…. I’m just short of one year old and really am a frightened little ball of fluff. So I’ve decided to rather hide in the closet and give this read-a-thon to another host.

You do know that I have an older brother who is purrfect for this read-a-thon? He is as black as the night and my ultimate Dark Knight. Stinkie is scared of nothing and as cool as black cats can be. He rules the whole neighbourhood and is rather on the big side as well. I look up to him in every possible way.

I think it’s only right that he takes the lead for the next 10 days. I will still remain a reading fixture at my Mommy’s side, but will mostly be undercover (literally). Stinkie will be the one who stand guard and also give you updates on our progress.

We are not going to add our books now, but we will start updating on this post as from Friday morning. We will try our best to remember to update on all the platforms and I’ve made sure that my Mommy wrote #FraterfestRAT down in her diary so that she can remember to use it.

I will be off now. Hope you all enjoy the FraterFest read-a-thon and just drop me a quick note of Stinkie doesn’t visit you or forget to add the links. His social skills aren’t nearly as well as mine and please don’t expect as much chit-chat from him. I know that some of you will be very grateful for that.

Happy Reading!

    • I stumbled on Northanger Abbey as a gothic quite accidentally. But glad I did! I am actually listening to it now as I'm updating my blog.

    • Thanks Tracy! I didn't do any planning and I'm still not planning on doing any, so I actually spend a lot of time browsing for books that can be spend reading!

  1. Excellent! I hope you and stinkie have fun (love the black cat btw) that is the most important thing. I change my mind about books too because I never know if I'm going to like what I read or not.

    • Hi Jackie! Especially with something like a scary book read-a-thon. I don't want to do any planning, because what if I also want to go and hide under the covers? Just take it as it comes.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy your books!
