Friday Fives #10 – 5 Books my Students are Trying to get me to Read

Friday Fives #10 – 5 Books my Students are Trying to get me to Read

Greetings you guys! Can you believe that it’s September already and I haven’t done a Friday Fives this whole year. Jeeeez….. Fridays are usually crazy and my Mommy is always trying to leave school as fast as possible to get home and start the weekend. It doesn’t always work out that way though. Now we first need to remember what Friday Fives are all about…. Connect Five is really very easy, just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. It’s hosted by Kathryn @ The Book Date. Talking about school – as the school’s librarian, my Mommy loves recommending books to the kids and to see just how much they love reading. But every now and then, the kids will actually recommend a book or two for her to read as well. Sometimes she does read it and sometimes she pretends she has…. Other times, they land on her TBR and we hope to get to them soon. Here are five of the latter ones. Fable (Fable #1) by Adrienne Young – For seventeen-year-old Fable, the daughter of the most powerful trader in the Narrows, the sea is […]

Weekend Book Friends #24

Weekend Book Friends #24

Greetings Humans! First order of business today – it’s my adoption anniversary! Yea to me! And to Mommy for coming to my rescue from that horrible orphanage where we could never, ever get some more. No matter how nicely we asked. Oh, I’m such a Drama Queen. The pet shelter was actually lovely, but not a place any kitten would want to stay forever. My Mommy is at home today and I hope she will spend some time here on the blog, we’ve been a bit absent the last two weeks. The weather outside is however begging her to just take her book and go read. I am not going to complain about that. Snuggle time! My Mommy is very eager to start reading the following book later today: If you know my Mommy and read our blog regularly, you will know that this book might as well have been written for her. We are going to have a wonderful weekend! Let’s see who we can share it with: For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of […]

Weekend Book Friends #22

Greetings you guys! It’s our last Friday before school starts again on Monday. I can’t believe our holidays are over… It feels as if we haven’t done anything but migrate from Blogger to WordPress. I guess most migration journeys does take some time and we are ever so happy in your new destination. Some unpacking and sorting still needs to be done, but we will get there. But not today. Today we will curl up with great book and just relax a bit. *Yea right. As soon as my Mommy press “publish”, she is going to find something else that she just quickly wants to tweak. Mark my words.  We are busy reading the most wonderful review book that we received from The History Quill Book Club. Think Cabaret, ‘Allo ‘Allo, Moulin Rouge ….  Yes, it really is as good as it sounds. Let’s share some snippets from this fabulous book by linking up with a few beloved Weekend Book Friends. For our first stop, we will pay a visit to Gilion over at Rose City Reader to share our Book Beginnings.  Every Friday you can link up and share the first sentence of your current read (or the one you plan to devour […]

Friday Fives #7 – Five Ballet themed books we still want to read

Friday Fives #7 – Five Ballet themed books we still want to read

Greetings! It’s Friday afternoon and we haven’t done a Friday Fives post in months. Mostly because we just couldn’t think of 5 things we want to talk about. Or wait no, 5 bookish things to talk about. And we’ve been a bit busy too. Still hate it when reality interferes with our bookish lives. My Mommy finished the most beautiful book this week. It was all about a Russian Princess (who looked just like me) and her family who had to flee Russia in The Great War. You can read our review on The Ice Swan here. The beautiful princess’ stress release and favorite part time hobby, was what prompted our idea for today’s Friday Fives: Five Ballet themed books we still want to read   My Mommy attends a ballet class twice a week and although she’s not the most gracious dancer and perhaps a bit long in the tooth for it already, it’s an art form she absolutely adores. I wish someone would start a ballet class for cats, then all of us would-be Caterinnas can show off our amazing ballet skills. Mirko, the Ballet cat Choosing 5 Ballet themed books, wasn’t quite as easy as a pas-de-chat (that […]

Weekend Book Friends #21

Greetings Humans! No, we didn’t disappear from the face of the earth this week, it was just one of those weeks where reality interfered with our reading and blogging life. Luckily it is Friday afternoon and we can finally escape into a book or two. I believe a complete escape from reality and a bit of tongue in the cheek humor, is exactly what we need for this weekend:   Tired of being teased about his name and his stutter, twelve-year-old Hobart sets out to do a few heroic deeds and earn a place in Knight School. But the local damsels he hopes to save assure him that the last thing they need is rescuing. The runaway bull he tries to catch wears him like a hat. And don’t even ask about the ogre. Finally, in desperation, Hobart sets out on the most daring quest he can think of–he will slay a dragon. Or that’s his plan anyway. The Legend of Hobart is a hilarious, heart-felt adventure, for the would-be hero in all of us.     This book sounds like the most fun a cat and a middle school child can have. It’s up for review from our side, […]

Weekend Book Friends #20

Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy is at home! Yea for me! It’s been terribly cold here across the country with snowfall in a number of places. Yes, we know that snow is nothing new to many of you, but for us, it sure is wow! Perfect weather to stay inside and just read a book. Besides the rather unpleasant weather, it’s not been the best of weeks at school either with parent meetings every day until late and load shedding and all other sorts of fun. I think my Mommy needs to read the following book this weekend:     Between life and death there is a library, and within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book provides a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things would be if you had made other choices . . . Would you have done anything different, if you had the chance to undo your regrets? A dazzling novel about all the choices that go into a life well lived, from the internationally bestselling author of Reasons to Stay Alive and How To Stop Time. Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library […]

Library Card July 2021 and Friendly Fill-ins

Library Card July 2021 and Friendly Fill-ins

Greetings Humans. No exclamation marks today. My Mommy is not in the best of moods. Who else got affected with the latest (once again) Blogger update? Have you noticed that our beautiful blog header is just gone? But let’s not get into it now – that’s what The Sunday Post is for. It’s Friday and time to have a bit of a weekend. No use in trying to tell you what we will read this weekend, we are still not done with the decorating and painting and sticking of wallpaper. So whatever lands on in your lap from our Library Card, will have to do. Library Card July 2021 We have a couple of renewables on our library card this month. June has been nothing but awful and we haven’t read as much as planned.  The only good thing that comes from our June Library Card, is The Rose Code (we still need to review it) and A Gentleman in Moscow. Both were such gorgeous reads. Let’s see which books made our July Library Card: Book Club Due to South Africa being right in the middle of the third wave of Covid 19 and the dreadful DELTA strain is taking its toll […]

Friday Fives #6 – Baby it’s cold outside

Friday Fives #6 – Baby it’s cold outside

Greetings you guys! It’s Friday and this week was a bit topsy turvy. Mommy and Daddy was away for a long weekend and Wednesday was a public holiday. Although Thursday and today has been enough for a whole week! Luckily it’s time for the weekend and to get reading a bit. I don’t think we are going to feel like doing anything else. It’s cold and raining out there and I guess winter is here to stay. We are not going to do a lot of link-ups today, just Connect Five and Friendly Fill-ins. Let’s start with Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy – just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. Sticking with the cold weather out there, let’s link books with ice or snow. Proudly brought to you by the gorgeous snow queen I was named after. The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey – Alaska, 1920: a brutal place to homestead, and especially tough for recent arrivals Jack and Mabel. Childless, they are drifting apart – he breaking under the weight of the work of the farm; she crumbling from loneliness and despair. In […]

Weekend Book Friends #19

Weekend Book Friends #19

Greetings Humans! It’s Friday and my Mommy is at home! Yea for me! But she doesn’t look all that happy about it. One of my Mommy’s Teachers in the special needs section at school, tested positive for Covid and seeing that no-one at school is eligible for a vaccine yet, school is closed until Monday. I really don’t get why she’s upset about it. She can read, she can blog, she can cuddle with me. What’s the problem? But I understand that humans have very complex emotions and I’ll just sit here with a sweet and sympathetic look on my face. Yes, you do deserve a brand new book, Mommy. Yes, the wine and chocolates are also well deserved. This is her brand new book and she can’t wait to start reading it later today:   The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Huntress and The Alice Network returns with another heart-stopping World War II story of three female code breakers at Bletchley Park and the spy they must root out after the war is over. 1940. As England prepares to fight the Nazis, three very different women answer the call to mysterious country estate Bletchley Park, where the best minds in Britain train […]

Friday Fives #5 with Book Blogger Hop and Friendly Fill-Ins

Friday Fives #5 with Book Blogger Hop and Friendly Fill-Ins

Greetings Humans! Yes, yes – I know it’s Saturday already and we are a bit late for a Friday post. But yesterday was dreadfully cold and rainy, so when my Mommy came home from school, we just snuggled up with a book. Until she had to be back at school. They had a fun-run this morning and she had to be at school at before the crack of dawn. We are still going to link up with Friday Fives and Book Blogger Hop and then we want to join a new weekly meme today. Because cats. No other reason is necessary. For our firs link today, we link up with  Connect Five hosted by the BookDate. Connect Five is really very easy – just pick 5 books that are connected in some or other way. Theme, cover, genre, author – you name it. As you know, my Mommy is a teacher/librarian and this week Mommy decided to show you the five series’ that are the most popular at school:   1. Basically any of the series or by Enid Blyton. Famous Five, Secret Seven, Amelia Jane. All of them are still very popular. The same with Roald Dahl. Not a series no, but still […]
