Greetings Dear Humans! How was your week? We’ve notice that there were a lot happening in the world outside our window this passed week, especially on the American Front. After 6 months of blogging, we’ve realized that we find out far more by reading everyone’s Sunday News than the news that get dished out on local and social networks. So please, do tell! We will sit quietly in our little corner of the world and just give a quick update of our week. The rest of the stage is all yours.

We were remarkably busy this week! Mommy had a bit of schoolwork to do on Monday and Tuesday, but there were still plenty of time for some blogging. She will be back at work tomorrow morning, so don’t expect much in the upcoming week. *Sigh*. I’ll be alone. Only two dogs and 3 other cats for company. Oh woe is me.
On Monday, we did our very first Book Blitz. Sorry, correction here – I did my very first book blitz. So very chuffed with myself. Graphics are linked to the relevant posts.
On Wednesday we did Wondrous Words Wednesday. Last week I told you that we will be hosting this meme from now on and there will be a link-up. Thanks for all the help and support with the linky-thingy and for all the great comments! A very special thanks to Debbie @ ReaderBuzz. There are some people who just have the ability to make you feel as if you can conquer the world and they will be right there beside you. Debbie is one of those people.
The link-up is still open and I will keep it open until the next one is uploaded on the 20th of January.
On Thursday we did our first Throwback Thursday for 2021 and Mommy featured one of her favorite reviews ever – Recipes for Love and Murder: A Tannie Maria Mystery by Sally Andrew
We also did two book reviews this week. Wow! Don’t think that has ever happened. It was a good reading week and my Mommy had a lot to say about both books. The first one is in Afrikaans and I have no idea if it will be translated at a later stage. I think it will be great as it deals quite a bit with our Afrikaner History. An Afrikaner is an Afrikaans-speaking white person in South Africa, especially one descended from the Dutch and Huguenot settlers of the 17th century. My Mommy and Daddy are Afrikaners.
The Book of Two Ways was a wonderful, 5 ????? read to start the new year with.
On the Couch
Recently Finished
School is starting tomorrow and my Mommy thought it best not to start with a new book after all the wonderful books we’ve finished this week. Don’t worry, I’ll convince her otherwise within an hour or two.
Watched
My Mommy was shocked to realize that the following movie was released 22 years ago. Good Grief. She really is much older than she appears on paper. She and Daddy loved watching this movie again and I have to say, that Brendan Fraser was quite the dish. Whatever happened to him? Watching this movie was of course inspired by reading The Book of Two Ways.
That’s all from us this week. Now we can’t wait to hear all your news and everything that happened around the world. Just give us a couple of minutes to go get some popcorn and a cup of coffee for Mommy. Do we need 3D glasses?
Have a good week and as always – a big thank you to our wonderful hosts!
Lots of Love,
22 years since The mummy came out ?! Wow, I feel old ! And yes, Brendan Fraser was definitely eye candy material. I hope everything is all right in school ? And that you find your house intact when you come home ! I had a dog that used to break flower pots when we left him alone, imagine what several dogs and cats can do ! Have fun ^^
Ha ha ha!! Our oldest labrador used to dig up the garden before we got him friend. He also destroyed two Persian rugs and ate a couple of shoes. All mine of course…!
Yes, the years sure are getting one. But I do believe they are good and kind to us.
Sounds like you have been starting the year off wonderfully with some great reads! Good luck on hosting Wondrous Words Wednesday. I will have to participate when I can.
It's been years since I've seen The Mummy! I loved all of those movies. They cameo out when I was a teenager and hold a special place in my heart! I hope you have a wonderful week and stay safe!
Hi Heather! Definitely the same age here.
Yes, my year started on an excellent reading foot! School starts tomorrow, so not all that much reading anymore.
It would be wonderful if you can join us for Wondrous Words Wednesday when you have time!
Hope you will have a wonderful week.
There is a very good article on Brendan Fraser– it is from GQ 2018 It's Called What Ever Happened to Brendan Fraser? He had a real tough time. Also over 20 years already? Wow!
Hi Victoria! Thanks for sharing that! I am definitely going to check that out! Time flies hey…
Thanks for visiting us!
It’s always a shock when a film you love turns out to be quite an age, I get that with The Lost Boys! But these films are classics!
Yes the world is awful, I hear you guys have a new variant of Covid just like us, we are on a tight lockdown but the rumour mill reckons we will have an even stricter one in place soon. I’m happy my daughters are home for school and that I’m able to work from home.
Stay safe x
Hi Heather, yes – we have our very own special kind of evil disease… Numbers are sky rocketing all over the country. We are not under complete lockdown, but there are curfews, no alcohol, masks, social distancing and and and…
I'm glad we can go back to school, but that's only the private schools who can adhere to all the safety protocols. The rest remain closed. I will still do online classes as well, hectic but at least we can still help all the students.
I was shocked when I was looking for the trailer for The Mummy and it fell under the Classics Watch. Good grief! How did we get here??
Have a good week and stay safe!
The Mummy! Sigh. I still remember those giddy days, Brendan was indeed quite the dish. Those two were my favorite OTP, and such great special effects too.
What's the Woman in Red Magdalene Speaks about? Very striking cover, and it has a fox, which always catches my eye.
~Lex (lexlingua.co)
Hi Lex! I know, the special effects for the Mummy was really good for the time it was made! I also drooled a bit over Brendan Fraser again.
The Woman in Red is about Mary Magdalene. Can't wait to read it! I have no idea why the fox is on the cover, when I've read it, I will let you know! It was on the daily deals on BookBub. Have a look, you might strike it lucky and still get it on the special price.
Have a good week!
Haha, sounds good. Look forward to your explaining the fox!
I will keep you posted!
I enjoyed reading Recipes for love and murder some time ago, I bought but have yet to read the 2nd book. I hope the return to school goes smoothly.
Wishing you a great reading week
Hi Shellerae! So glad that you've enjoyed Recipes for Love and Murder! The second one is also really good, but I didn't care all that much for the third one. I just buy them all for the recipes at the back…
School is smooth so far, let's hope it stays that way!
Thanks for visiting and I hope you will have a good week too.
Ooh your books look fun! Piddleton Hotel especially looks good. I hope back to work tomorrow goes well and that little Elza doesn't get into too much trouble with the other four- legged crew… 🙂
Holy cow that film is THAT old? Yikes…
Hi Greg! Haven't started with Piddleton Hotel yet, but think it's going to be a lot of fun yes!
School is busy so far, but the scorcher is tomorrow when all the kids are back too. Looking forward though!
I had to take Elza to the Vet for her yearly shots this morning, she screamed blue murder all the way and back.
Yes, we are getting old my friend…
A Cat's Guide to Dragon Bonding looks adorable! I might have to look into that one!
Happy reading! Thanks for visiting Shell's Stories!
Hi Shell! It sure was a lot of fun to read. Not my normal genre, but it was quite enjoyable. Will have the review up in a couple of days.
Have a good week and thanks for returning the favor!
Elza tell you'r mother that I'm totally embarrassed to be from the US right now. It's such a sad state of thing. I love the looks of Knitted and Knifed. I may have to locate a copy!
Hi Barb! Aaah don't worry, every country has their circus and their clown. I've been embarrassed to call myself a South African more than once.
Have a look at Lola's Blog Tour, they might still have a copy or two available!
It was certainly quite a week here in the US, what a nightmare! I never saw that movie, but remember when it came out. Seeing it referenced definitely reminds me that I am getting older.
Hi HElen! Oh I love The Mummy and it scares me most to realize that it came out about 5 years after I've finished school. Gosh, where does the time go??
Have a good week Helen!
Because you loved The Book of Two Ways I'm wanting to read it. I'm going to go look for your review. I hope you have a good week. My upcoming week is super busy.
Hi Laura! I really enjoyed The Book of Two Ways, but it did have good and bad reviews. I hope you will like it too.
This week is super busy yes, but we are not complaining!
It was a busy week! Time does seem to fly. Brendan Fraser was all over the place for a while but you never see him anymore. Good luck with school next week. Happy reading!
This week is bit busier than last week, but it's sooooo good to be back at work as well!
Hope you will have a good week!
Knitted and Knifed looks like a cute cozy. It always feels odd though calling a cozy mystery cute when it's about murder. We re-watched the Mummy recently too. Such a fun movie. Brendan Fraser was easy on the eyes in that movie. 🙂
I have heard such great things about The Book of Two Ways. I am glad you enjoyed it.
Good luck with the start up of school again. I hope it goes well.
I wish I had some juicy news to share. It seems like there is always something these days. I'm worried about what might happen in the next few weeks in the U.S.
I hope you have a great week!
Hi there! I know, we are a whole bunch of sadists for saying murder is nice and cozy…. But we love it!!!
School's been busy the past two days, but the scorcher is tomorrow when the kiddies are back too.
Ah don't worry, every country has their own circus!!
Hope you will have an awesome week too!
Wow! You certainly had a busy week! Have a great week!
Here’s my Sunday Post!
Ronyell @ Rabbit Ears Book Blog
It was busy, but lovely! This week will be filled with school work, so that's a different type of busy.
Have a good week!
I have never seen that movie. 🙂 Hope you have a great week and get to read!
By now it's a Classic! But still worth watching. Special effects are actually awesome if you think it's 20 years ago….
Knitted & Knifed looks like my kind of book. I've seen it around. I'll have to check it out. Good luck this week at school.
Have a great week!
Hi Yvonne! Started with it last night and it's quite fun. Yes! You will like it!
And that should have read handful of *years* not days! I might be getting a bit long in the tooth, but I haven't yet reached the stage where I feel that years are passing at the speed of days!
Time sure flies, yes. Gosh Sarah, I would never have thought you older than say mid fifties.
Have a wonderful week!
20 years ago! But yes… that makes sense – Himself, the children and I went to see it at the cinema to celebrate my 43rd birthday. And that only seems like a handful of days ago! We all loved it – and went on to have a lovely Chinese meal together:). Perhaps later in the year, we can celebrate birthdays like that again…
I hope the coming week is a peaceful, happy one with more good books and classic films! Take care.x
I can actually also remember going to watch it at the cinema 20+ years ago!
Perhaps later in the year we can go to the movies again….
I'm still in shock over last Wednesday. Those images on the screen were horrifying. I'm still trying to process it. I'm feeling a little better every time I hear that one of the participants in the mayhem has lost her job or has been arrested.
I'm terribly glad to see that you have revived Wondrous Words. I will do everything I can to support it. I know you will do a great job! And thank you for the kind words!
You had a great start to your reading year, Mareli!
Hi Debs, I didn't watch any of the footage. Not much coverage from our local news desks at all. If I didn't see Simon & Schuster's remark on Instagram, I might have missed it completely.
I'm feeling very positive for Wondrous Words Wednesday. I so enjoy doing it and that's the most important after all.
I had a great start to the year with books yes. Here's to hoping it will last!
