Greetings you guys! Time for Top Ten Tuesday! Are we the only ones who don’t get to very much more but TTT lately? I LOVE weekly memes, but I struggle to keep up at the moment. End of the year tiredness is hitting us hard this year. Anyone else feeling the same?
This week’s prompt for TTT, is favorite “aww” moments in books. And for a chance, we are sticking to the theme 100%. No quirky headings, no pet-themed books, just following the prompt. I already had to wreck my brain for this one. I guess if I wrecked it a bit more, I might have been able to find 10 “aww” pets or books that are completely “aww”.
While browsing through my Goodreads shelves, I just realized that I don’t read a lot of “aww” books…. So some of my choices might rather make you go “huh” than “aww”.
“Aww” animals who are simply “aww” and I can’t think of any specific scene:
- Marcellus from Remarkably Bright Creatures
- Olivia from The Last House on Needless Street
- Three-Sixty from Lessons in Chemistry
War can have “aww” moments (if you haven’t read any of these, don’t read my “aww” moments, they are spoilers):
- The coat guy from The Rose Code. Yes, it was tragic circumstances that led Osla to have the coat. But it was the one scene at the end of the book that made this the most perfect read ever. I really went “awwwww”.
- Phillip not dying in The Wartime Matchmakers. Actually, this book has a lot of “aww” moments. Read it.
- Getting engaged with the pin from a hand grenade. A strange “aww”, but a valid one.
Other weird and wonderful creatures that made me go “aww”:
- Rocky from Project Hail Mary. And my favorite scene was Grace going back to safe Rocky. Way better than telling ET to phone home.
- Chauncey the bellhop with his button collection – “awww”. From The House in the Cerulean Sea.
- The rat from Britt-Mari was here. Or was it a mouse?
And my favorite “aww” moment in a book. Ever:
What are your favorite “aww” moments from books? Any of mine matching yours?

Lots of Love,
I keep meaning to read Britt-Marie Was Here – I listened to the audioplay of it a while ago and really liked it but haven’t made it through the whole book yet. I did enjoy A Man Called Ove recently though, so that has made me think I really should try it again! Great list, have added a few to my TBR!
Oh boy.. Yes ‘Me Before You’ is one big aww moment! I haven’t read any of these other books you’ve mentioned. But these sure sound like aww and huh moments! (Love that huh thing)
The bumblebee tights! I adore that scene from the book and love how Emilia Clark played it in the movie (I haven’t actually seen the movie just that scene and a few others). And your description of “the coat guy” and the awe scene in The Rose Code just moved this book up on my TBR!
The Last House on Needless Street was so so tense!!
The Brilliance of Stars- what a neat cover! Hope you are doing well this week. It’s snowing here, so… 🙂
I forgot about the Coat Guy in Rose Code! You’re right; the ending was perfect for Osla. And no, you aren’t the only one struggling with posting things consistently!

Hi PAm!
Coat guy was my favorite part in The Rose Code!
Glad to hear I’m not the only one struggling with consistent posting at the moment. At least I’m still reading… for what that might count!
So sorry for the late reply, I hope you are well and had a good weekend!
Ah the coat guy, great choice, that was really sweet! I couldn’t really remember enough sweet moments from books I’d read to do this topic this week, so I went for something completely different. I probably could have done most heartbreaking moments from books quite easily, those tend to stick in my mind a bit more than the sweet ones for some reason. I didn’t do that this week, but maybe a potential topic suggestion?
Hi there Jo!
Yes, sad and heartbreaking moments in books will be a good prompt for TTT, then we can all sit and type our posts in tears…!
Thanks for stopping by and so sorry for the late reply!
Oh my gosh YES, when Lou gets the stockings. Oh such a heart fluttering moment, especially how excited she is!
Best scene ever for sure!
These are great picks! I think many animals provide aww moments in their books, I should have used that as my topic twist this week. Too bad I didn’t think of it in time…
Thanks for visiting my TTT earlier!
Using animals in books was my very first thought for “aww” moments, but I thought it might be a better idea to deviate a bit! I’m always going on about the animals….
Thanks for returning the favor and so sorry for the late reply!
I love this alternative! I haven’t read Me Before You, but I thought the film had SO many aww moments (right up until it broke my heart). Great list!
Me Before You are one of those rare book to movies that are really acceptable and both are well worth the time. I hope you will someday get to read the whole trilogy!
So sorry for the late reply…
Aw! Chancey! I loved that dude.
I know… Chancey is the best!
Aw, I loved that scene from Me Before You! Both in the book and the movie. Lou and her stripey tights. 🙂
I know Tanya!
So do I! I can’t believe I actually say it, but I think the movie scene was slightly better!
You’ve got so many books on here that are on my TBR! I feel like I say this every week, but I’m going to have to shuffle around my TBR to change around my priorities, since some of them should be read sooner. I do have to admit that I loved all of the characters from The House in the Cerulean Sea though.
Hi there Leah!
I think Goodreads need to build in a algorithm or something that shifts our TBR books around according to how often we click on them. I had good control over my TBR earlier this year and now I’m a hopeless case again.
So sorry for the late reply. I hope you had a good weekend and a good week to look forward to!
That would be such a great idea!
I didn’t think of The Rose Code, but that is a perfect aww moment. Nice list! Top Ten is a meme I really enjoy doing and reading others, but it’s some work to put together sometimes.
Hi Wendy!
Yes, it does take some time to put everything together, but I love doing TTT and it’s always fun.
The Rose Code is one of my favorite “aww” books for sure!
One of these days I really should read The House in the Cerulean Sea.
I think you will love it Lydia!
Sometimes a moment with an animal is more Awww than with a human 🙂
Most definitely Sarita!
I LOVED Chauncey and his buttons! And Rocky from Hail Mary – there were plenty of aww moments there! I can buy into Marcellus too (just finished that one so he’s very clear in my head!) Don’t remember coat guy from Rose Code but I’m sure you’re right…. 🙂 Have a great week and hope you find time to read a good book.
Terrie @ Bookshelf Journeys
Hi Terrie!
Agh my week was just hectic. That’s the norm lately here! Looking forward to holidays. Today in one month’s time….
Glad to see we’ve “awwed” over the same books!
Have a wonderful weekend.
Remarkably Bright Creatures keeps appearing on lists, and I keep wondering if it’s a book I’d like. It sounds lovely.
For me, a book with an “aww” moment is exactly what I want in a book.
Aaah Debbie, you of all people will LOVE Remarkably Bright Creatures. I just know it. Hope you will manage to get to it soon.
I also need an “aww” moment in a book to make it really memorable.
Hope you had a great week and are looking forward to a good weekend!
Thanks, Mareli!
I just read your list and the Readerbuzz list. Somehow I can’t think of anything like this in books I have read. Maybe to see what this means, I really need a quote (even though it would be a spoiler).
best… mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Hi there Mae!
That “aww” element is definitely something that is an individual choice. I’m not big on romance, so that won’t make me go “aww” any time soon. But pets and other animals will easily get an “aww” from me!
Hope you are doing well and looking forward to a good weekend.
The Me Before You book series is so emotional! But I do like the ending in the last one 🙂
It was a lovely trilogy yes and books that can easily be read again and again. Emotional or not.
Thanks for stopping by and sorry for the late reply!
