The Sunday Post #93

Greetings you guys! It’s May – It’s May – the crazy month of May! All over the world, the weather doesn’t know what it wants to do in May. It’s just MAYbe weather. Maybe it will rain, maybe it will sunny, maybe, it will windy. Alas, no use in worrying about the weather. So let’s see – who watched the Coronation of King Charles III? We did and I have to say, it was lovely seeing the old folks playing dress-up. No use in growing old if you can’t do it with a sense of humor. Everything else was magical and regal. Fit for a king. How’s life been treating all of you? We are well! Mommy is still working  her ass off (am I allowed to say it like that on here?), but that’s okay, she is enjoying it and as with most things in life, I know the new business will start settling down and we will fall back into a comfortable rhythm. I guess we can blog a bit more, but the bits of free time she has at the moment, is spend on us and on reading. We still read up quite a storm and we’ve […]

The Sunday Post #88

Greetings you guys! Happy New Year! We wish you all the best books, lower than ever book prices and hours of reading time in 2023. How have you all been doing? Enjoying your Christmas break? Mommy and Daddy are still enjoying their island holiday. She does send messages every day and I don’t think they do much more than sleeping, swimming, exploring and just relaxing. That’s what holidays are made for so I am going to keep my quirky comments for myself for once. She hasn’t been reading as much as anticipated during the first week of their holidays, not to mention blogging. She hasn’t even opened her laptop! Apparently she is sitting in the dining room of their holiday place watching the rain and quickly checking in with all of you now. Not that I think it will last long before she will go and sit outside and enjoy the cool, rainy breeze. It’s hot in Mauritius! No new books for Christmas (that was actually a direct request) and she won’t dare buying books on Amazon without consulting me. But last night, yes on New Years Eve, she and Daddy quickly went to the supermarket to go and buy […]

The Sunday Post #87

Greetings you guys! Can you believe it will be Christmas next Sunday? Whoo hoo! Although this will be the first year ever that I am not with my Mommy for Christmas…. They are sitting in the lounge in Cape Town, waiting for their flight to Mauritius. I might still take my revenge this week and topple the Christmas tree she so lovingly put up for our Baby Sitter. We love the Baby Sitter and it’s always fun to have her here, but there’s no need for Mommy to know that. She needs to think that our world is coming to a complete stand still when she’s not here. It is of course the little Mutt’s first Christmas and she won’t even know the difference. Ha, perfect opportunity for me to have a bit of a go at her. Anyways, look at me talking about myself and nothing else here. How have you guys been doing? What’s your holiday plans?? The last couple of weeks at school has been really, really crazy and I know Mommy didn’t blog as much as we usually do. Just the scheduled blog tour or two, but hardly any link-ups. Hopefully she is going to get […]

The Sunday Post #86

Greetings you guys! How are you? You must miss us terribly… So sorry for our absence here on the regular Sunday catch-up channels, we know it’s been almost a month. I guess I might even have to introduce myself to a few of you! I’m Elza, a fluffy white kitten yes, scratch that. I turned 3 last weekend, so I guess I really can’t count as a kitten anymore. But I am still fluffy and adorably and trying to keep my mommy sane. Yes, in our welcome note there is a mutt as well, you are very welcome to just ignore her. Talking about keeping sane, what’s up with this year? The first 10.5 months flew by in the blink of an eye, and now the last 2 months seem to last a decade. Or are we the only ways that feel that way? Days are long and filled to the brim with things that need to happen. Needless to say, blogging is taking the backseat here. And we hate it. Luckily my Mommy’s holidays are just around the corner, 3 weeks to go. They are going to leave me and the damn mutt here with Hercules and Stinkie and […]

The Sunday Post #84

Greetings you guys. We aren’t normally very good with remembering or using gifs, but this Ross greeting is exactly where we are today. There’s been a very somber atmosphere in our household from Wednesday. Those of you who follow us regularly or if you read our About info (we haven’t updated it yet), will know that I might be the Queen in this household, but I share it with a whole menagerie of other pets as well. Most importantly, are the two Labradors, Hercules and Lea. At 13 years, they are the eldest by far. Lea has really not been very well since December last year. She struggled to walk and and couldn’t get up anymore and became increasingly lethargic. Lea was the best Mommy Dog ever and our human Mommy and Daddy thought it would be a clever idea to bring a puppy in, hence the arrival of the damn mutt. It didn’t work at all. Lea didn’t want anything to do with Anna and to the mutt’s credit, she really did try to play with Lea, but Lea just ignored her. I think it was more a case of not registering if you ask me. Lea went to […]

The Sunday Post #83

Greetings you guys! It’s finally holidays for my Mommy. Just a short break, but it’s still ever so welcome. I do hope that we can spend a huge chunk of the following two weeks reading and spending some time on the blog. How have you all been doing? The past two weeks was a bit of crazy and surreal time, don’t you think? Who else were glued to their TV screens on Monday watching the late Queen Elizabeth’s funeral? Even the little mutt was watching with us and she was quite good, except when the trumpets blew. Genetic memory or what? We’ve been experiencing stage 5 and 6 load shedding here in South Africa and it’s very frustrating to be without electricity for 6 hours a day. But you know what, let’s chat about Load Shedding on Wednesday’s Wondrous Words Wednesday post. Remember you are welcome to join in on this fun monthly meme. You can find all info needed in the highlighted link, or by clicking on the Wondrous Words graphic on the sidebar. But let’s talk books! Adding to the Litter We need to start stacking up for Fraterfest that’s just around the corner. Think The House on the Lake is going […]

The Sunday Post #82

Greetings you guys. I guess there’s no use in asking how everyone is doing. The past three days felt like a lifetime all in itself. My Mommy loved the Queen of England and you can easily find her on Royal Watch. She does like kings and queens and princes and princesses of which I am a living example. Although the late Queen had a profound love for dogs and the mutt expressed her concern for the poor dogs that are left behind, I’d like to believe that She did have at least a fondness for cats as well. Perhaps the new Queen Consort might bring a feline into the Royal Palace. She does look like a person who would like cats. We always love the books being discussed on the Queen Consort’s Instagram Page The Royal Reading Room. We really do wish the family peace and love in this time of grief. May the Queen rest in Peace and long life the King! Anything else happening is completely irrelevant, so let’s rather talk books. Adding to the Litter My Mommy had Book Club on Monday night. Gosh, it feels like a lifetime ago.  She’s still busy with The Island of Missing […]

The Sunday Post #81

Greetings you guys, how are you? We didn’t have the best of weeks and my Mommy is actually sick with the flue or something so got from the dog in bed while we are typing here. And that’s not even the worst of our week. Let’s not get into it in too much detail and just say that people really can sometimes do the stupidest things. Oh and there’s a reason why the president of School Governing Bodies are always depicted as assholes in movies and TV shows – they usually are. Mommy says that every now and then, she can get so disappointed in her own race and the empires and dogmas humans so love to belong to. Luckily she has all of us to comfort her in sickness and disappointments. Oh and trees, trees are another thing that makes her happy at the moment. Have you read this gem? A rich, magical new book on belonging and identity, love and trauma, nature and renewal, from the Booker shortlisted author of 10 Minutes 38 Seconds in This Strange World. Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. […]

The Sunday Post #80

Greetings you guys! It’s the third weekend in a row with dreadfully cold weather. Wind and rain also seem to take up weekend residence in our little town. We don’t mind the rain, we desperately need it. But the wind and cold is too much for my sensitive constitution. We are all well and the little mutt still appears to be growing like one of Jack’s magic beans. She is very inquisitive and playful. She does keep the humans on their toes and the rest of the household’s tails in a knot. I am worried that she is trying to hack a space on my beautiful blog. I have my spies out you know and here she was caught red-handed by Lea trying to hack our post. Can you believe that? And then Mommy turns around and says that maybe we should give her some blogging time. Daddy cam up with Agent Anna Snout Investigates and suggests we let her do all the mystery books Mommy loves so much. I need to think about this. Long and hard. Nothing much else is new in our world, school is busy and finally at a good rhythm after the past 2+ years. Mommy is […]

The Sunday Post #79

Greetings guys! It’s a dreadfully cold, windy and rainy day here in our beautiful little coastal town (weather update – check). Our week was crazy busy and “gat oor kop” (that means head over tails in Afrikaans). The little mutt is still alive and growing like a gremlin. I kid you not (update on the family – check). Of course in order for her to put all the stress of the past week behind her, my Mommy went for some retail therapy. The mutt needed a couple of things and the Pet Shop does happen to be two doors down from the Book Shop. The joys of having a good Book Shop and a shop assistant who knows what you like…. You are not mistaken that none of the Pet Shop goodies are cat friendly. So I just photoshopped myself in the picture (stacking the shelves – check) We did try to be on the blog as much as possible. Once again, so sorry for our terrible lack in bunny skills. But here’s our posts if you’ve missed it: We went on a world tour (oh how we wish) with The Seven Sisters – Top Ten Tuesday The Seven Sisters […]
